I've always grew up in a cluttery home!! So I guess that's where I got it from and now this stage in my life I don't want to live like that anymore I want a spacious clean home and realize clutter just stresses me out!!
My why is more related to getting older, achier, having less energy and needing for things to not be so hard to make me too sore and too tired. And also just things like less bending over, squatting etc. Could throw my knee out and I have to be careful about the carpal tunnel issues. I just started taking more care (just paying more attention to my body signals etc) and I just have to now be a little more picky about what I spend all my energy on. The other is mental health and not getting sucked into depressive episodes so much anymore. (When things piled up, I’d get even more depressed). I just have felt so much better about myself and my surroundings since I found the idea of minimalism/simpler living. The other perks of course are saving time and money and knowing exactly what I have in my home and where it is.
I'm really enjoying your excellent advice on keeping our homes clutter free and tidy. When my children were little I used to declutter some of their toys and donate to our church rummage sale. Months later having forgotten about the things I had donated, I mistakenly took my children with me to the sale. My son said, "Mama, look at this, we have one just like that at home!" Little did he know that WAS the one we had at home.
I really like that reverse 30 day challenge. When I’m ready to declutter, it’s like a light switch and I start looking for anything I can to declutter. Starting with big amounts really helps me personally. I started with 100 item challenges for each room in my home and I cleared so much.
My why: I clean an Airbnb and it's such a joy to clean! It's completely clutter free. Being in that space inspires me to want that for my own clutter home. I can't just clean my own home without putting tones of stuff away or on the couch while I vacuum - it really sucks!!!
That's a great motivation. That's why we all seem to be able to take a big deep breath when we went a fresh airbnb or hotel room. Our minds can rest there.
I was going to set up AirBnb also. I wound up just renting the space long term. But I finally decided to make my own space a lot like the AirBNB setup I had imagined for others. 😬 I guess it’s the concept of allowing myself to have the good stuff/setup also just like I’d do for anyone else I had as a guest. One day it suddenly dawned on me that I was creating things for others that I really wanted and so then I just was like duh! I’ll just do it for myself then also. Of course it can’t be exactly like that but I got it as close as I could. 😅😅
My why is because I got tired of so much to clean/dust and less is more. So much more soothing. Less anxiety and calmer. My clutter wasn't too bad, but it just feels better now.
I just taken my unused new iron to my daughter along with a table top ironing board because iv decided not to buy clothes that need ironing. And they are cheap enough to replace if i regret it.
I am follow your tips! I plan a time to declutter almost everyday. I haven’t done it for long maybe 3 weeks and I can see results already! I also like using the black bag for donations and a box to go through things and to keep the mess of it in the box until it’s all sorted. I live in Utah too! ❤️ I love how you do your filming everything bright and clean in the background! Thank you for all the inspiration! Shaun in Utah Valley 😊
I would like to declutter every day because I am in service of these unnecessary items every single day. It takes all my precious time and nerves. And because i just love decluttering. I declutter and my husband buys a lot of things. Its never ending.
Even 10 min a day can make a huge difference!! That's tricky when you have a lot coming into the home, too!! But you can still make progress with your OWN stuff!!
Thank you! I did a huge declutter and got rid of a lot! I’m Now down to the things I really like But I don’t have a place for it all due to down sizing to a smaller home help ~ What do I do? ❤
I’ve done the same thing. I’ve found the container method ie seeing your cupboards as containers and only keeping what fits easily into it. The rest of the things that I want are put in a box in the garage. Anything I haven’t accessed in a year goes. That way I keep the things I love most not the things I love. Might not work for you. I have had to do it slowly (3 years so far) and each year it gets easier and I get closer to my goal.
I think the other lady is right put some away pick what looks good in the available spaces you have then go back and say what has to go but if you have space you could rotate your ornaments etc until you are strong enough to get rid. Good luck with it.
My son told me that he didn’t want his friends to come to our house because it was so messy. Boy was that good motivation.
