Ajahn Brahmali was born in Norway in 1964. He first became interested in Buddhism and meditation in his early 20s after a visit to Japan. Having completed degrees in engineering and finance, he began his monastic training as an anagarika (keeping the eight precepts) in England at Amaravati and Chithurst Buddhist Monastery.
After hearing teachings from Ajahn Brahm he decided to travel to Australia to train at Bodhinyana Monastery. Ajahn Brahmali has lived at Bodhinyana Monastery since 1994, and was ordained as a Bhikkhu, with Ajahn Brahm as his preceptor, in 1996. In 2015 he will be entered his 20th Rains Retreat as a fully ordained monastic and received the title Maha Thera (Great Elder).
Ajahn Brahmali’s knowledge of the Pali language and of the Suttas is excellent. Bhikkhu Bodhi who translated most of the Pali Canon into English for Wisdom Publications called him one of his major helpers for the recent translation of the “Numerical Discourse of the Buddha”. He has also published two essays on Dependent Origination and a book called “The Authenticity of the Early Buddhist Texts” with the Buddhist Publication Society in collaboration with Bhante Sujato.

That last sentence is disturbing. You either are allowed to kill or not kill. If some else kills it for you but it’s for YOU. So the reason that animal was killed is because of you.

I don’t care what the Buddha said. Eating meat is bad karma. We take a vow that all sentient beings are numberless we vow to save them all. 🙏☸️🙏☸️🙏☸️🙏☸️

It,s okay to eat meat if you do not ask someone to go and kill......but not okay if you do.....
So your teaching that it,s okay for everyone to eat meat by your actions......This is the dummist logic that i have ever heard.....If you want to teach compassion inforce it....The buddha did not live in this world and was a real mendicant if he were alive today he would Absolutly abolish the killing of animals....

I think the point is much more that to ban something just out of hand doesn't give proper grounding as to why it should be banned. Vegetarians should follow this and if they did I think it would be more palatable. Suddenly meat will only be sourced from Roadkill and we'll see who stays a meat-eater then.

@@Frederik_uk I'm not for banning it. I am for avoiding it. Avoid meat whenever possible. It should not be consumed by monks or given at retreats.

I agree. Meat is dead flesh that comes from murdering an innocent living, and feeling, being. To kill an innocent creature and consume its flesh it is not a kind thing to do, and not good karma. Let’s please be kind and loving to all living beings, and to ourselves as well 🙏🏻 ❤
