I don’t know, usually the bite is better first thing in the morning and slows later into the morning, so I think testing them both at the same time, when the bite is on would yield more definitive results.
I did a similar test against my bang garlic scent and I caught more with the bang but I did get bites on the fuel but I think when I run out of fuel I’m gonna stick to my bang and spike it garlic aerosol cans I have total confidence in them great video
Most people assume attractant is some how supposed to call fish in and in fact when the bite is tough attractant give you that extra second or so to get a good solid hook set
Good video--I get mixed results. I experience the best results with Bait Fuel when the bass are actively feeding. Fished a couple of weekends ago, I used Bait Fuel, my buddy used Pro-Cure fish attractant--he is a non-fishing fool but 27 with Pro-cure to my 10 with Bait Fuel. We fished in the big aquarium known as the Stick Marsh located in Central Florida.
Been using Bait Fuel for about a month now and I have had more bites with it and the bass seem to stay on better getting a good hook set. IMO, it works for me.
Fish Lake Lanier nearly every day and been using Bait Fuel for a couple of months now, and I have to say bait fuel has no effect. Soaked Yamamoto senkos overnight, used it on shakey heads, and drop shots.......no effect. I've stopped using it.
I think that you need to keep trying it. We have all seen you catch quite a few fish there. I feel it was just an off time or off day after the rain. I would also use a different soft plastic. You can't really give a true opinion on just one outing. You also made a good point about would the same eight that ate it w/o scent still eat it w/scent. Do this on 2-3 more occasions. Then you have something to look back and compare to.
Agreed, There's a lot of science that went into it and a lot of pros and joes have seen some amazing results on it. From what I have seen and read, usually a 24 hour marinade is good to help the bait have the scent infused for longer. But reapplying it throughout the day is necessary. It seems like just a very tough day out there.
@@TackleJunky81 Yes, try it more. I doubt it will repel the bass so, no loss. Guessing if you tried using small Texas rigged and Wacky worms in that pond you may have had more action?
Wouldn't it be a better test if you used a completely sentless soft plastic against the baitfuel? I believe biospawn comes pre-scented with their own concoction, so i guess this video was more of a scent vs scent battle.
I have had some good results. Been using for about 1 month and catching more fish. I marinate some soft plastics that i want to use overnight. i love to fish chatterbaits and swim jigs. so i soak the trailers overnight and find the fish take off running with the baits.
If it’s water based, doesn’t that mean it will dissipate in water; where you would need to reapply. Also, it’s not a scientific test until it’s with a Gary Yamamoto senko. Maybe you could test Bite fuel against spike it next time.
Well take in consideration that netbaits are injecting all their baits with bait fuel , I personally haven’t bought the the scent by it’s self, but I do have the t-Mac straight tail worms that have the bait fuel injected. I can’t tell just yet if it makes a difference but I will this spring and summer.
Those T-storms in the morning along with the change in barometric pressure afterwards tend to give bass lockjaw. Makes for a hard day fishing no matter what you are using. Try it again when the conditions are better and the fish are biting.
You can’t go wrong with smelly jelly I just bought some Bait fuel and haven’t used it yet now I’m curious if it works I’m from Modesto ca hopefully this weekend the weather will be better to get out on the water
Did a similar test with Gambler burner worms. More bites and they did not let go with bait fuel. I think it made a difference. And it was a little slimy.

Hey TJ, you should’ve went around one more time with exact same bait but a different attractant to see if a different attractant would’ve done any better.
May need a redue on a different day? I’ve been trying it also jury is still out. Like that Revo Rocket. Have both revo3 and revo4 versions. Like the knobs better on the revo3 version but the revo4 version has attached swinging side plate👍 but both cast easily and smoothly. You know it was a rough day when Big Mike wasn’t reeling them in!
If you really want to test it soak some bluegill soft plastics 24 hours and fish 2 identical line setups side by side under a bobber without retrieving them. One with scent, the other without. Go to a pond loaded with bluegills. A bluegill will have a similar liking to the same foods a bass does. They’re both in the sunfish family. Using a soft plastic will also show you how long it stays adhered to it without washing off. The Elaztec plastics really hold and absorb scents. They’ll suck it up like a sponge overnight. Something regular plastics don’t do. I wish someone would do a bunch of videos like this testing different scents against each other. They’d get a lot of views.
Been using it a bit now.....since it's water based I put it on my baits individually and liberally after I find the fish but not getting commitment and I think it works getting that bite. I do think It's helped in a very pressured pond i fish, but you do have to reapply often. Its water based and being thrown in more water....I don't think it's gonna make any bait work at anytime, but it adds to the action of the bait the fish are eating and it doesn't stink or stain your clothes as a plus. Great vid as always TJ!

I think you nailed it near the end of your video: The Bait Fuel is designed for a fish to hold on to the bait longer once they bite, so you have a better chance to hook and reel. It's not an attractant where the scent will spread. Also, since it is water based, it will wear off over time. I don't know how long it lasts on the bait, especially when marinating it versus dabbing some on but I find if it doesn't feel slimy (10 minutes or so?), I reapply. If you YT search for "bait fuel american baitworks" you will see the studies performed as the product was developed and it gives a better understanding of its design and application.

I think I'll pass on the stuff, since it can't be applied to a box of baits without destroying them if not used in short order and I'm not one for applying to individual baits. Now, that might change if I start seeing first-hand evidence.
Mikeybalzz Fishing has a good video on Bait Fuel. It's from 4 weeks ago. I haven't tested it yet but, I put a small amount in a few different Fluke and worm bags - them marked those bags with a Sharpie to know which soft plastics have it. I will look for any degradation of the plastics over time.
I am not much of a fan of added scents, but I am intrigued by the science that apparently went into developing this one. I think the only way to do something close to an objective test of this would be to present the same bait, the same way, basically side by side, one with Bait Fuel, one without, and see which the bass preferred. Not an easy thing. My view is: Using it almost certainly will not hurt your chances, and could help, so why not. It seems like it goes a long way. I think you said the key word: confidence. I am using it currently, and have not noticed an appreciable difference, but I do plan to give it a thorough looking-over. I hope you do another test sometime soon. I enjoyed watching this, thanks!
yea with the 35+ years they put into the science behind it u would think it would work better and not have issues with messing up the soft plastic baits it was literally designed to go on. I already heard so many people having issues with there baits cause there putting to much or letting it soak for to long and since there is barely any instruction and no where does it tell u that it's meant for certain plastics. An I use plenty of other scent that are similar in way where its a liquid and they don't mess up ur baits or cause them to turn slimey or turn to goo.
What I think would have been inpressive would have the little guy throwing the treated bait while you were through the untreated bait. Would have been interesting who would have caught the most fish.
I think it's also recommended to let the bait fuel soak over night. Also I wonder if it would be better on something non scented bio spawn usually has that good smell too it. Seeing you fish the ponds in the past I think there was something going on with the fish.
True, could of been just a tough day overall, but with how that pond usually fishes I expected to at least stick a few with bait fuel. I'll keep playing with it and report back.
@@TackleJunky81 I ordered some to try too, a couple people that I trust said so far it does make a difference. Still a great video it shows everyone has tough days makes me feel I'm not alone in that lol.
Great job on the video. I have had mixed results with the bait fuel also. If you test it again I would treat a small amount of a variation of colors. Short strikes to me make me want to change colors. I really like your videos please keep them coming.
I just got some bait fuel & tried it yesterday. Idk if it has helped or not? It was one of those days they were just biting. I caught 11 bass total. 4 largemouth also had 3 more jump off the hook. Then I went to different area & caught 7 spotted bass. I had bait fuel on all my baits. I'm not sure what to think about it. I'll keep using it for now
@@TackleJunky81 I agree, when you're in the right place at right time you can catch them on anything, a stick with a hook would probably do it. Rest of time you need a reaction or trick them onto thinking it's actually something real & eatable. I do think scent plays a part. They have other senses why wouldn't they have smell? A shark can smell 1 drop of blood from a great distance so I think bass & other fish can smell as well. Now weather this stuff is attractive to them is yet to be proven to me but I will keep trying it till for now.
So dropping regular plastic into the Stowall is okay? I am just now getting a couple and I usually just use one type of paddletail most times. Two sizes and I usually toss all colors into a ziploc… I have been wondering if I could do the same and not have a reaction… like plastics deforming or melting
I use bait fuel and I don't no if it helped to get the bite but I never had so many fish with the bait so far into the crushers, so I have been going barbless
So, in my Highly Unscientific test today: I soaked a craw overnight in Bait Fuel. The angler using that bait caught a fish on his second cast. The bait was shredded, so changed to an untreated craw of same type - color was either the same or very close - and landed no more fish in 90 minutes of fishing. In a vacuum, that "test" would seem to say Bait Fuel is awesome, but my previous use of Bait Fuel has not shown me any appreciable benefit. I have not experienced the bait damage some others have reported, so my opinion remains: "Likely will not hurt but may help."
Baitfuel is a pain to use. If you add to bag and leave it, the Baitfuel drys up and leaves a nasty film on the baits. If you apply directly to bait it needs to be applied in about 4-5 casts or less. Plus it absorbs into baits and expands the plastic causing deformities. I gave my bottle away since I did not see any difference.
Did you laugh in editing when you cut off line twice that you would have cut off anyway with your knot? 😂 I believe Bait Fuel has caught more fisherman than fish.
Would help if you don't dunk thw freshly center bait in the water 4 tines before you cast it out haha pretty poor test parameters. But at keast ypu got out there and fished with your boy
you can't truly test if one is better than the other or with or without because i've caught so many fish without scent and i used to believe in Spikeit garlic chartruese i still think it works but most of the time i just fish my bait straight out of the pack but i don't think you can really tell because you might just run by a fish that really wants to eat the bait regardless , you know
I do not believe that one trip really would quantify the usefulness of the scent. The pressure could have been changing from the storms to bright sun and that is something you might not be aware of. We all know that pressure is lower in the morning and gos up from there as the day goes on. I think you should give it at least three trips to justify a good sampling before you decide it is not worth the money.
Great video dude. I have definitely been wondering about the bait fuel every since I saw it at the bass master classic. Still debating it though but thanks for making this video. I also love those line clips!!! I just dropped an order for them and used your code as well🤙🤙🤙💸💸💸😎😎😎
I put some on about 10 baits in a plastic bag, drove 2 hours to the lake and when I looked in the bag, the baits had swelled and discolored. Tossed the bottle in the trash.
Very cool test that you did here. I was wondering about this bait fuel, or any kind of additive to the bait. Do you think all the pros are using these additives as an advantage? I feel like it’s kind of cheating, even though it’s not. Even though some of the baits come scented already, do you think it’s kind of cheating yourself? Or maybe a true angler doesn’t need any kind of scented additives? 🤔
Hmm...seems to me that you're adding scent to a bait that already has scent. Could they conflict? Perhaps, you should try the scent experiment on your Yum Money Craw.
Why not a senko? Didn't look like you were setting the hook maybe it's an odd angle but it just appeared that you were trying to just reel them in. I'm not trying to criticize I could be totally wrong
Thanks for the video man. I was curious about baitfuel and wanted to see a good test. I like your methodology, from the pond choice to the application method, to switching out the fueled baits. I'm not sure I would write this stuff off just yet though... It's only one test. You might as well use up the bottle... Every time you fish plastics with someone else in the boat, have one person use it. See what you think after the bottle is gone. I agree with your assessment on THIS test however... At worst, it provided no benefit and at best it was inconclusive.
Not much of a scent fan. Powerbait Maxscent seems to have it's time and place, everything else seems to catch fisherman and not fish. Idk just my 2cents.
Try bait fuel baits first next time....Also, maybe without mixing it with a Bio-scented bait...Ya never know but maybe mixing the two together creates something repulsive for Bass :)
don't really believe in scents, but seems to me that 'water-soluble' would tip you off that it doesn't last long in the water!! Also, maybe you could have changed up your lure 1/2 way in case you were simply not fishing what the bass wanted to eat. hm.
Hey TJ, you set that test up pretty fairly. Different day, different result? You know the ol’ saying, some stuff catches fish & some catches the fisherman. So many of those type things out there these days. Buyer beware. Glad you & big Mike did this. Truly enjoy the content 👊

you can't truly test if one is better than the other or with or without because i've caught so many fish without scent and i used to believe in Spikeit garlic chartruese i still think it works but most of the time i just fish my bait straight out of the pack but i don't think you can really tell because you might just run by a fish that really wants to eat the bait regardless , you know
I have never been sold on stuff like this. But I have used it over the years and just never seen a big difference when using it.
I'm a fan of scent just not so sure about this stuff. Appreciate you watching! 👊
@@TackleJunky81 Well what do you like to use. I have tried
a lot of them over the years and can't seem to find one that does anything much.
@@GeorgeT6566 JJ's Magic, Bang, Gulp, Megastrike, Fish Sticks...
I think they are trying to pull one over on us. It’s just unscented Astroglide gel lol.
Interesting test. Thank you.
I'll play around with it a bit more and report back.
Great video dude. I have definitely been wondering about the bait fuel every since I saw it at the bass master classic. Still debating it though but thanks for making this video. I also love those line clips!!! I just dropped an order for them and used your code as well🤙🤙🤙💸💸💸😎😎😎
Could of been just a tough day, but I expected to at least stick a few with bait fuel. Appreciate you using my code brother! 👊💪
@@TackleJunky81 I think those clips will come in real handy especially when storing the rods in the boat
@@Army_Outdoors_88N 💯
I put some on about 10 baits in a plastic bag, drove 2 hours to the lake and when I looked in the bag, the baits had swelled and discolored. Tossed the bottle in the trash.
Yeah, I would hate to ruin my baits with this stuff.
You aren't supposed to soak them. Put a few drops in the bag.
Check out Mikeybalzz video on this attractant.👍
@@jdock32778 I didn't soak, squirted less than Mickey and still swelled a lot and discolored
@@michaelace4739 I could not define Mickey..
Oops maybe that was Mikey..
@@jdock32778 phone lol Mikey, plus I'm driving
Been looking forward to this one!
Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for watching! 👊
@@TackleJunky81 I agree with just having confidence in what your doing is the most important aspect!

I wouldn't say adding scent is cheating at all...you still gotta catch em.
@TackleJunky81 A true angler would carve up some Ivory soap and skip it on top for those schoolies! 👍🏻
Hmm...seems to me that you're adding scent to a bait that already has scent. Could they conflict? Perhaps, you should try the scent experiment on your Yum Money Craw.
It's very possible. I'll have to play around with it a bit more.
Interesting! Great job TJ & Mike‼️. Maybe try again when they are biting better and see?
Appreciate you watching brother! 👊
i soak em overnight so it infuses the bait. It doesnt blow em up for me i used yamamoto senko and crushed em!!!
I rub a little Pro-Cure on my soft plastics to help hide human scent.
Good test Jim. I am surprised at your sweep style hookset on the T rig.
Thanks man! I only sweep with an ewg hook.
@@TackleJunky81 that’s got me thinking why? Time for a video on that brother

Good video and testing out the bait fuel.👍💯💶🎣
Thank you brother! 👊
Why not a senko? Didn't look like you were setting the hook maybe it's an odd angle but it just appeared that you were trying to just reel them in. I'm not trying to criticize I could be totally wrong
I could tell they were smaller bass and just pecking at it.
Fair test. Good vid
It doesn't look like you're setting the hook hard enough hahaha. Maybe I'm just used to the sweeping hooksets I see on TH-cam.
With my experience you'll lose even more jackin em with an ewg. Also I could tell they were small bass just playin with it.
U were working the bait fuel different when u was jigging
Thanks for the video man. I was curious about baitfuel and wanted to see a good test. I like your methodology, from the pond choice to the application method, to switching out the fueled baits. I'm not sure I would write this stuff off just yet though... It's only one test. You might as well use up the bottle... Every time you fish plastics with someone else in the boat, have one person use it. See what you think after the bottle is gone. I agree with your assessment on THIS test however... At worst, it provided no benefit and at best it was inconclusive.
My pleasure buddy and I appreciate your input. Thanks for watching! 👊
Could just be a tough bite day.
For sure...
Well your dropping it in the water at the boat and could be rinsing it off before you get it in front of a fish
The problem is the ewg hook..
Not much of a scent fan. Powerbait Maxscent seems to have it's time and place, everything else seems to catch fisherman and not fish. Idk just my 2cents.
Appreciate your input and thanks for watching! 👊
Try bait fuel baits first next time....Also, maybe without mixing it with a Bio-scented bait...Ya never know but maybe mixing the two together creates something repulsive for Bass :)
Good point! 👊
I’m thinking it’s 🐸 fur lol
👊💪
Hooksets are FREE my man!! With a Heavy action ROD.. JACK Their Jaw!!! 🎣💪✌️
Eh, you'll lose even more jackin em with an ewg. Appreciate you watching buddy! 👊
How is seagar do you Recommend it???
💯 I've been using it for 15+ years!
don't really believe in scents, but seems to me that 'water-soluble' would tip you off that it doesn't last long in the water!! Also, maybe you could have changed up your lure 1/2 way in case you were simply not fishing what the bass wanted to eat. hm.
10:1 ......lol I hope your flipping with that
Honest review! Bait Fuel not really a game changer.
Could of been just a tough day overall, but I expected to at least stick a few with bait fuel.
Good job gents...
Appreciate you watching buddy! 👊
As we say in Texas “he be one “
Bro not gonna lie you don’t be setting the hook…. You need to set the hook a little better tbh
I do not know . Not a fan of any sent . I think it is a confidence builder . Stay Safe Tight Lines
Agreed! 👊💪
Maybe set the hook bud!
Don't understand how it works. It has no smell or taste.. that's right I taste tested it. Lol. Maybe different for fish..
Seems like a true test.
Testing anything like this outside a laboratory is really difficult; there are just so many variables, some of which are outside our control.
I gave it a shot, but it could of been just a tough day overall, but I expected to at least stick a few with bait fuel.
Great content!!!
We appreciate you watching! 👊
Maybe I Didn’t set the hook hard enough? Lol
Looks to me like you aren't really setting the hook for whatever reason.
For smallies it's lights out.
👊💪
What about pro cure scent
Hey TJ, you set that test up pretty fairly. Different day, different result? You know the ol’ saying, some stuff catches fish & some catches the fisherman. So many of those type things out there these days. Buyer beware. Glad you & big Mike did this. Truly enjoy the content 👊
Yup, could of been just a tough day out there. Appreciate you watching buddy! 👊
Set the hook harder
Ain’t no way that stuff works haha they got us good though. (Imo)
Could of been just a tough day...or they got us! 🤣🤣🤣
Crack em man! Set that hook!
Nah, they weren't big fish. I never jack em with an ewg.
