Nice! Gillies have small mouths, so I've found that using a fly/hook that's bigger than the mouths of the dinks limits hookups to larger fish. Also, they love to nibble/taste the tails rather than bite, so tailless wet flies tend to produce more hookups. Finally, I've talked with many fisher folk who haven't a clue that gillies are even edible, let alone delicious, which they certainly are.
Awesome underwater footage and content as well. We’ll start sharing your channel with our clients who want to learn more fishing tips. Thanks for creating this channel!
Well done, but the biggest thing I took away from the video is that we fishermen try to impart far too much action to the fly. Worms and bugs just don't move like this. Even the fish look confused, and half the time when they tried to take the fly, your action pulled it away from them.
This may be true, but in this case the Bluegill were so busy bedding and spawning this was the only way to get them to bite. Also Bluegill in general respond much better to action, and are a lot more forgiving in presentation than trout. Thanks for watching!
I was thinking the same thing..too harsh of action to the jig. More subtle action will produce more fish because it is more natural. That's why these bream seem to be cautious/reserved about grabbing the baits. Been fishing for over 48 years and have been taught a lot by the fish and older more experienced fishermen as well. Slow it down and even some days they want no action at all..just let it down in the water and hold it still. Fish are quite "moody" creatures. Happy fishing!!
I'm only about two weeks into fly fishing, and although I have went out for my trout and managed to catch a few, I hang out by the lake by my house and mess with these guys all the time. Probably the best practice I can think of. I have the room to work on casting, and also learn to feel for those little nibbles. They're so aggressive, sometimes I catch one when I go to cast. Just that little time of pulling out extra line and when I lift to start my cast, a fish flies up with the hook lol
Bluegill. The blue collar street fighters of the piscatorial world. They will hit anything that moves and eat any bug, minnow or other food form with little to no tempting. I have caught hundreds of these little (and not so little) scoundrels when I travel to the in-laws in Indiana. I always take the flyrod and can spend hours catching them on the surface with Elk Hair Caddis in sizes 10,12 and 14 (if they get fussy). It is great fun to see those fish (often 1 to 1.5 lbs) slam a dry and the fight is pound for pound, one of the best.
I'd also recommend a Bully Spider in white or chartreuse for fishing stained waters. It's even effective for bass and can be fished on ultralight gear.
I would look for a prespooled rod/ reel if you're still setting up or fly line on sale at Sportsmans warehouse. Fly shops will be pricey. Hope that helps!
In the description, you write "...Huusk is running a 50% discount on their authentic Japanese Knives!" Huusk's Japan knife is NOT Japanese-it's just named "Huusk Japan."
Thank you for pointing that out. I took care in the video to say "Japanese Inspired" and not "Japanese". These knives are not made in Japan. I don't remember where they're made but for the price it's a decent knife. I will edit the description.
huusk is absolutly not a japanese knife, but merely a chineesium made piece of metal that has sevreal dropshiping brands. Its been arround for years. don't wate money on it.

why? "Oh because they could die and not guard the babies" THATS LIFE and anyway. Catch and release is a very popular fishing type, and not many places allow you to keep every single fish

I fry the tail and eat it like a potato chip. Try it once. You'll be "hooked" 😎
@@truethought2581 yep, me too 👍
@@truethought2581 my grandparents did that for us thats cool
Hahahahaha the club music playing while the bluegill is sweeping its nest just made my day
😂 yes!! The tiniest dancers!
These guys are super fun to play with. They're fighters and they will pull the entire way back if you let the line drag proportionally.

I absolutely agree. Fun all day.
Fantastic underwater footage
Hey bud thanks for the Colorado content. That commentary and underwater footage is clutch haha look forward to the next video
How do you know it's corado ? 😲
@@jordymarquez4052 good call, im not sure it is after another watch haha
i just assumed. 👀
Thanks for your videos. One thing about gills that size, they are pretty easy to get. The big gills are very wary prey.
Great production quality as always. :D
Thanks el_Jacko !! 🙏🎣
Great video really awesome footage. Thank you Sir.
You're welcome my friend!! 🎣🙏
Another great video!

that was a sweet video
Super helpful!! Thanks boss!
The gilly is the go to fish to help your morale after being out there for hours and no bites 😆
Looks like fun!
Which brand of San Juan worm are you using? Can you link it here?
I love the vid I just caught a 1 pound bluegill on a fly
Fun fact bluegill will steal basses beds after there done spawning
Love catching big bull bluegills on a Topwater fly !
Bluegill pro tip: use crappie nibbles(pink) on a small treble hook
What size small?
Great video coming
Thanks! I'm super excited for y'all to see it!
Good new fishing videos
What rod you fishing with?
Agreed
Where are you fishing
What bait/lure do YOU use for Bluegill?
Bread
Parachute Adams. They'll hit that all day every day.
Beetle spin
Also, if youre out of ideas on vids to make, id love to see a contedt of power worms for trout! 😁
That's a great idea! In fact I'm doing another Powerbait Comparison with all new baits. Going to do 8 baits and 1 is the power worms, natural color.
Excelent...video.
Nice!!
What fly line you reccomend? Looking for cheap
I would look for a prespooled rod/ reel if you're still setting up or fly line on sale at Sportsmans warehouse. Fly shops will be pricey. Hope that helps!
Walmart has a great selection of flies for about $1
Instead of a bare weight, I tie on a plain jig as a weight. The weight (with a hook in it) gets at least as many fish as the fly or dressed jig does.
cool video
Appreciate that Albert! Tight lines! 🎣🙏
Bluegill around my area will eat a plane gold hook. The things eat literally anything that looks remotely food-like.
Put a tiny pice of red worm on the hook
👏👏

Huusk knives are a scam. 👎🏽to scam videos.
Fishing during spawn should be illegal and off limits
why? "Oh because they could die and not guard the babies" THATS LIFE and anyway. Catch and release is a very popular fishing type, and not many places allow you to keep every single fish
You should try fishing before commenting; they’re bluegills, not an endangered species. Bigger problem is stunting due to overbreeding.
Thanks. Good video. I use a 6 ft 3 wt fly rod. Bluegill abuse that rod!!!
