Who would have imagined, at 83 years I've followed your tutorial to crochet a Granny Square knee rug .Now I'm eager to start these squares and attempt another project Thank you so much 8/4/22
I have just learned to crotchet thanks to your tutorials ALONE. In the past I have bought books, videos, tried other tutorials - all with no luck. I find your tutorials easy to follow - your voice is very relaxing and your instructions are very precise. Thank you!
I know this is dumb to do when I haven't seen much of the video but I want to thank you already. I haven't crocheted in ages and wanted to pick up on granny squares since I knew they could be attached together for bigger projects. I figured I would try to make a blanket for my nephew but thanks to the sizes of the squares and the blanket size I'm aiming for, I wanted to add boarders too. So thank you.
From South Africa. Thankyou for amazing tutorials, one of the best, You have taught me so much as you teach step for step, taking nothing for granted. Thumbs up all the way!!! Ann Douglas.
I've been crocheting for 6 months and looking into learning how to do the solid granny square, then joining to make a blanket so this is perfect! Looks like more individual work, but the amount of time and effort into it makes it even more satisfying when done. Thinking about making some daisy squares to add to it as well since it is one of my favorite flowers. Thank you for such a helpful video - have a great day!
LOVE the double crochet seam!!!!! It looks soooooo beautiful!!!!! I cannot wait to get making some solid granny squares so I can use this seam!!!!! Thank you soooooo much for an amazing tutorial!!!!! 💖💖💖 I have tried crochet on and off for a few years but finding your channel a few days ago has resparked my passion for it!!! Thank you so very much!!! xxxxx
Hi I am so happy I came across this tutorial, I have made to lots of different squares for blankets for a baby boy and girl, watched loads of tutorials on how to join but not one explained how to do the corners, I should have known to come back to you as I have recently made a Granny stripe blanket from your tutorial and am very pleased with myself that it turned out so well. I live in Cheshire UK and am crocheting for charity as it keeps me busy during the day and off course I love crocheting anyway. Thank you so much for explaining so clearly,
I've always liked making granny squares but hated joining them. So after searching for "joining granny squares" and trying a couple of different ways I came across your tutorial and gave it a try. Will be the only way I use from now on. So much simpler. Thanks so much.
this video has helped sooo much thankyou bella as i am only a 12 year old and love crocheting you have explained it well and i hope to see more videos from you
thank you so much for this brilliant and clear tutorial....i'm new to crocheting but found this so easy to follow, my 12 yr old grandson is going to love his blanket which i have done in our union jack colours....thank you once again x
hi Bella,I've just learnt solid square, its so easy and simple, so thank you very much for your tutorial of solid square you've given me a lot of confidence,lm really hooked on it thank you again,l will carry on crocheting.
Bella this looks really easy. I do single crochet (double crochet in Britain). I’ve always used a slip stitch but I think I like this for a heavier yarn. Thank you so much!
I've just started crocheting, I find your tutorials very helpful-clear and easy to understand, I especially like that it is English/U.K as most that I've view are American which can be confusing. Mine don't look so uniform as yours do, but I'm only on my 3rd ever square (1st solid square) so hopefully after learning the sequences and more practice I'll have myself a blanket, so thanks :-)
Terrific tutorial. Easy to follow. Great explanation along the way. Thank you very much for sharing :-) P.S. Who would "dislike" any of this lady videos is beyond me :-(
I love your tutorials on making granny squares this is a wonderful idea for making a placemat or a blanket. I am going to learn how to make granny squares first. It looks like it's very easy to do. :)
Wow! Such a beautiful effect! Love the colour scheme too :) Expecting a baby in the next couple of weeks so will definitely be doing this in these colours if we have a boy :) x
Hi Bella! I love your videos! I learnt crochet by simply watching my mum doing it and find it very difficult to follow actual schemes in magazines. Videos are so much better and your patterns are absolutely beautiful! I've got a request: Can you make a short video of how to join solid squares as you go. I'm making a baby blanket and would like to avoid actual stitches! Thank you so much!!
I'm learning a lot from you. Did you block your granny squares before you starting joining them? This is my first big project and I don't want to skip a step! Thanks.
I love your tutorials & have taught myself to crochet using them & have made several blankets this winter which my family love. I have just watched your joining solid granny squares tutorial but I desperately need one for joining solid hexagons given that I can't do the straight line across with hexagons. Can you please help me :-)
I really enjoy watching your tutorials, you are so very easy to follow. I am fairly new to crocheting and you are easy to learn from. Would you please show how to put a border around your Star Burst Granny squares? I am in the process of making squares using your Star Burst Granny square tutorial. Now, I am ready to put it together but I would like to add a border around each square first. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this tutorial. I made a baby blanket by refering this video. Your instructions were really helpful. Not sure how to send a picture of my blanket here!😊
thankyou this has helped soooo much i really wanted to make 4 different coloured ones and join the together but what colour should i use cause im using a DARK purple and then a LIGHT pink blue and green as the squares but what should i use for JOINING THEM cause i have a white and also a brown
Hi Bella. Thanks to your videos I am almost ready to make my first crochet project in 40 years! Thank you so much for your help. I will be using this video to attach my squares into a lap-robe afghan. MY QUESTION IS: should the squares be wet and blocked before I join them? I will be giving the lap robe as a gift, so I want to be my best work. By the way, I subscribe to your FaceBook page also. I'll look for your reply here on this channel. Thanks in advance. I'm in the US and I appreciate you describing both crochet terms.
+Janice Robinson Hi Janice. How lovely thank your making such a lovely gift. I would suggest that you block the squares beforehand yes, it will make it much easier :) x
Hi Sarah-Jayne! Is there a way to join squares without making a ridge? I love all your videos. After watching many many videos on how to crochet granny squares, yours is the first to help me to actually get it!! Thanks!
I can't believe no one has answered your question! Melissa, instead of putting the squares back to back to join, you would put them right sides together. This would give you a flat join instead of a ridge. Also, I like to join all my squares continuing all the way across horizontally and then vertically. That way I don't have have a bunch of tails, and I don't have to keep stopping and starting.
I want to do a blanket with different patterns of granny square - how would you join solid granny squares to the absolute beginner granny squares? Thank you so much for your videos! In two weeks I've got through a lot of crochet.
Hi, I have made two pieces of your solid granny squares, 3 squares by 3 squares. I would now like to make these front and back pieces into a cushion cover: Should I add another border? How do I attach the two pieces together? Would love advice or better, another tutorial video on this! Thank you!
If I do the join on the wrong side, will the right side remain flat? I have already single crochet a border on my 50 squares which I am now going to unpick as this looks so much neater!
I would like to just continue the small square into one large blanket, about 32-34 inches square. Any thoughts on how this would work out? Thank you for any advice or comment.
Great video! I am making a BIG blanket of solid granny squares. Can I join this way going all the way across one way, and then all the way across the other, rather than joining the squares one by one to make the strips?
Yes, you can! That's how I do it. Starting from the right and working left you can join all the way across and then down after horizontally joining them.
Hi. your 2 tutorials have helped me to make a baby blanket for my soon to be niece. I have used this to crochet the squares together. But not sure how to do a simple border to finish it off. any ideas? Thanks so much!!!!
Hi, great tutorial, do you have written instructions for this as I'm worried about using heaps of data looking at the TH-cam tutorial all the time. Thanks for your help
Can I just keep going and going and make the blanket by just continuing the same square, without stopping? I think it would look super that way, but I'm uncertain.
Jeanne-Marie Cooper I did that with a normal granny square patern and it turned out very nice! I did it with alernating colors pink/white and ended with a scaloped edge. I was very pleased with it and it was a lot easier than doing a bunch of seperate squares and then having to cochet them together .
I absolutely love your tutorials! I'm not a fan of the join on the front side, since I'm working on a pixel blanket, so if I just flip it around and have the join ridge on the back, would this method still work? :) Thank you so much for these videos!
Is it ok, to join your granny squares without a border? Can you join granny squares with different coloured yarn throughout your blanket. I'm wanting to have the joining Ridge on top, so it's visible.
Yes, absolutely, you can join without a border - I would take a look at my tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/uMSwvtmWk7E/w-d-xo.html which shows how to join using a slip stitch and gives a really pretty effect when using different coloured yarn 😊
I love your tutorials so I came here looking for help on how to join 2 granny squares that are very large. I have made 2 granny squares that were made using the diamond granny square technique consisting of 3 boxes each. My intention is to change the 2 large squares into a rectangle and then add a border around the two once they are joined so that it will fit my grandaughter ‘s twin bed. Would I use the same technique as for these tiny granny squares? I’m not sure since I only have 2 very large granny squares to join, not a bunch of tiny ones. I’m not sure that I want a raised line going across the middle of the blanket so maybe you can suggest a different way to do this? Your help is much appreciated. Trish
How could you join a solid granny square to the other simple more open granny square. I am wanting to use both styles in a blanket to give different textures.
Hi sarah Jayne I know this is an older post but it's my go to old faithful lol I make the squares beautifully and neat but when I put the half crochet border on it goes sort of puckered looking any idea what on earth I'm doing wrong Ty xxx
Borders can be really tricky to get right - I think in your case I would go down a hook size as this will make the stitches slightly smaller and so less puckered 😊
I did a the border on my square that had 9 rows and it’s now not sitting straight, will that affect how it will join together?? I’m panicking!!! But I love the colour choices in your video 😍
Thank you 😊 If your border is rippling/waving that usually means you have too many stitches. There's a bit of trial and error involved but I do have a tutorial offering some guidance here: th-cam.com/video/904wGzBtLwY/w-d-xo.html If the border you've worked is around a solid granny square I would double check that you haven't worked too many stitches.
I am almost done with a solid square granny blanket. I ended up making 56 squares. Each square was 4 rounds ending with 19 double crochet on each side. I came across this video and put a border on mine as well. So, I'm guessing, with the border, they were about 7 inches each. I had 8 squares horizontally and 7 vertically.
currently on my second row of 12 with this technique and i am about to connect both rows 🌞 but i have SO MANY ENDS i didn’t weave in and i am so confused on where you weaved in yours. the ones on the end corners of the connection make sense, but the ones for the border..... im lost bc i want to do a border on the entire blanket afterward
There's really no particular place where you should weave in ends, just as long as it's somewhere close to the yarn end that will hold it securely. You can see my tutorial here with some tips on how to keep your ends secure: th-cam.com/video/6qXEcQj_0L0/w-d-xo.html 😊
@@bellacococrochet thank you for replying! i know this video is years old lol, so definitely grateful for that!! i’ve continued on with crocheting over them. i’ve left them out on the main edges so i know where i need to crochet into for the border, and will just have to deal with the dangly bits until then. thank you!!
Love love your tutorials, the easiest to follow and understand am still a beginner, so I have a question I made a blanket just like in the tutorial but I would also like to add a wave border, should I add first a double stitch border or not?
Borders can be really tricky to get right - I would try going up a hook size for the border as that will make the stitches bigger which should stop it curling inwards. You can also block the blanket once it’s finished by stretching it out and pinning it into shape 😊
Is there a limit on how many rounds for a solid granny square. Have done up to 23 stitches. Then with the joining boarder it appears to buckle in each section
There’s no limit on how many rounds you can do for a solid granny square; you can simply continue until you reach the desired size. If you’re having trouble with the border rippling I would try going down a hook size just for this part 😊

Love love your tutorials, the easiest to follow and understand am still a beginner, so I have a question I made a blanket just like in the tutorial but I would also like to add a wave border, should I add first a double stitch border or not?
I've made a few of these now brilliant vid but when I do the boarder the square bends in on itself any tips?
Borders can be really tricky to get right - I would try going up a hook size for the border as that will make the stitches bigger which should stop it curling inwards. You can also block the blanket once it’s finished by stretching it out and pinning it into shape 😊
Could i join the granny squares, without the boarder, using the same method?
Is there a limit on how many rounds for a solid granny square. Have done up to 23 stitches. Then with the joining boarder it appears to buckle in each section
There’s no limit on how many rounds you can do for a solid granny square; you can simply continue until you reach the desired size. If you’re having trouble with the border rippling I would try going down a hook size just for this part 😊
