Lot of salty Grendel owners in these comments. Probably cause all the change dropped on a Grendel build only to be out performed by a new cartridge offering. Personally I'll stick with my 223. That and the 7.62 is what I stockpile and that's what will be valuable in a global SHTF scenario. Cheers fellas!
6.5 grendel will do the job as well as the .224 I want a .224 when they sell one in a 24 inch barreled upper for my AR-15 for around $475.00. I would pay no more $1,000.00 for a complete rifle.
I believe its the 6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 .. Should be a fairly straight forward AR15 cartridge conversion .. Replace bolt head and magazine with standard 6.8spc hardware and install a .224 Valkyrie barrel.
sodium... The .223/556 shoots a .224 projectile. 99.99% of ".22 cal" centerfire cartdridges do(except 5.45x39). however, This new case is completely different from .223/5.56 so no you cant just reuse your barrel, thats retarded.
damn you're dumb. Let me elaborate. You have an AR-15. It most likely has .223, 5.56, or .223 wylde upper. Get yourself a .224Valkyrie upper when the are available. Why change barrels? For the time and effort, just have a dedicated 223 upper and a dedicated 223 upper. didn't think that was a hard concept to understand. Can't believe you took that as me suggesting shooting 224 out of a 223. Which is impossible to even chamber.
Based on the results of extensive internal testing and the drive to optimize the 224 Valkyrie for the greatest majority of firearms in the marketplace, Federal Premium Ammunition has decided to alter the design of the Fusion MSR offering, opting for a 90-grain bullet over the originally announced 100-grain projectile. We strive to put the best product on the market, each and every time. This redesign provides a more universal and better-performing bullet that actually improves downrange ballistics, for a more accurate and terminally effective projectile. th-cam.com/video/wzxtZL5nqxM/w-d-xo.html
Any specific reason why you would suggest it over .224? Just curious. This is intended to be used as a match rifle (PRS Gas Gun Open Division, where max range is about 800 meters, usually 300-600). I don't plan to take down any animals with it, so I personally see the ballistic and recoil advantages of the .224 as making it the better choice unless I'm missing something. The higher velocity will make it easier to discount wind, and the 90gr SMK is no BC slouch anyhow. Since it would be used in open division, any caliber goes, I might as well use the best suited one. If I go military division I'd just stick with a .223 because I don't feel like dumping money into an AR10.
Nosler just got 1 upped... Maybe just one upped everything out there for the AR15 platform currently? Will it last? Will it be adopted by the main stream? So many great rounds over the years that just didn't make it, this one looks good though.
Adrian Wevers It's really hard to tell now days which cartridge is going to stick around. There are so many. At first glance I was blown away by this cartridge and was looking at how to get one. But the more I looked into it my 6.5grendel will do the same thing out to 500 yards. This really doesn't start out performing the 6.5 until way down range. And I don't even have anywheres to shoot that far in South Ms but if someone wants a long range ar15 this seems to out shine all current ar15 chamberings out passed 600 yards
deon lee you are right, you never know what will be here today gone tomorrow. I like the Grendel, I hope it sticks around. Maybe I will build a Valkyrie based AR in a year if it looks like is doing well.
Adrian Wevers I did the same with my 300 blackout which I just built this year. Could tell pretty early 300 blackout would be some what popular I moreless waited for prices to fall. I waited to build my grendel and maybe if this is still around in a couple years I'll do the same
BLACK RIFLE same here I jumped on the 6.5 grendel wagon very early when components were still expensive. Got about 800$ in my upper I could build the same thing now for almost half the cost.
Christopher Barger There are tons of components out there to put a 300 blk 223 together or already assembled for 300$. Granted it's not D.D. noveske but you don't have to spend thousands to build a nice reliable accurate rifle. Areo percision is putting out some really nice products for guys that don't have 1500$ for everyone of their rifles. I mean even Anderson has reliable parts for just as cheap as you Wana go. When Anderson or Bear Creek make a .224 valkire barrel that's when I will build one. Probably pick up the barrel for under 200$
I've got a really hard time thinking you can get a handguard, barrel, bolt carrier, bolt, and upper receiver for under 300. unless you are just doing a barrel and bolt conversion.
hmm not so sure that is true. Necked down cartridges generally have less barrel life that their parent cartridge. Longer bullets also increase throat erosion as there is more friction. Question is, how bad is it?
30% shoulder should mitigate a lot of the throat erosion most of the powder is going to burn in the case It might not be that bad. But It very well could be a throat scorcher time will tell I definitely want this in a bolt gun hopefully cz will hop on board for this one early.
That would be .22 PPC, sort of. The .224 Valkyrie is based on the 6.8 Rem SPC case (which is off the .30 Rem case). 6.5 Grendel and a handful of wildcats are also based on the .220 Russian.
This video is by Federal Ammunition. I don't know why you think this has anything to do with bump stocks either, considering this round excels at long range precision.

RIP 22 Nosler
RugerReaper that's what I said!
I can see the 6.5 Grendel fanboys lining up to get butthurt cream. I’m sure there already trying to pick it apart on the forums.
Hmm looks good... I'll keep my eyes on this one. Liking the bullet weight options.
I believe its the 6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 .. Should be a fairly straight forward AR15 cartridge conversion .. Replace bolt head and magazine with standard 6.8spc hardware and install a .224 Valkyrie barrel.
or just get an upper and retain the .223Wylde you've probably already got.....rather than this barrel changing nonsense

Haven't had a chance to take mine out long range yet, but I can tell you that at the indoor range I put half a dozen right through the same hole!
i like the music they used. and i would love to put some range time on an ar chambered in this.
Loved my BHW 6x6.8. Can’t wait to see Federal making factory ammo in a 6mm variant of this!
how long does the barrel last? seems almost to good to be true! love to had a boltie in this caliber
1300yd supersonic 90gn Sierra MatchKing 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
It is probably tumbling end over end by then if you shoot it out of a reworked version of an AR barrel 1:7 twist 18" long.

Will this round fit STANAG magazines? And typical AR-15 lowers?
Well... I didn't start my 6.5 Grendel build yet so....... I guess now it's a .224 build hehe....

What is known is less recoil equals more accuracy in a match!
was about to get a .22 nosler......but me thinks me changed me mind!

Need a H2H against .22 Nosler ;)
When they start making an upper conversion for $300 or less I will take the 224 !
BLACK RIFLE same here I jumped on the 6.5 grendel wagon very early when components were still expensive. Got about 800$ in my upper I could build the same thing now for almost half the cost.
Yes totally agree . I just got a full ar15 in 300blk built with a heavy barrel for around $800 with lot of top name parts into it
upper conversions don't even exist for .223 for less than $300.....at least anything worth buying
Christopher Barger There are tons of components out there to put a 300 blk 223 together or already assembled for 300$. Not a 223. Not a 22-250. Not a 243. Not a 6.5CM. Will be interesting to see if this cartridge is still around in 20 years.
VLDs and this thing is a real killer. Cartridges like this put the Ackleys in the dust.
Shooter7point62 bullshit.... millennials
VLDs are for millenials? This thing blows the 223 AI out of the water.
Babay Bluegill yeah darned millennials with more knowledge than previous generations, fuck us right?
James Stevick dang millenials that actually support 2A. Who needs another generation to continue traditions of marksmanship?
Babay Bluegill I hate to be a typical TH-camr, you're a fuckin idiot.
JFC, nix the metal soundtrak. Brutal.
Ideal barrel length ?
More info please
Anyone got an MSRP per box of 20?
$43 and a new barrel
22 PPC/224 AR fits in the same package with better performance.
Each box of ammo comes with a new barrel 😂
Not even close... This is not a barrel burner, especially since this was designed to shoot heavies
hmm not so sure that is true. Necked down cartridges generally have less barrel life that their parent cartridge. Longer bullets also increase throat erosion as there is more friction. Question is, how bad is it?

that was precisely my concern as well-it had better last over 500 rounds(like the .220 Swift)
Ok a new ar15 round for long range guys. Be a great varmint rig.
Take my money now..
Don't Drop the ball on brass quality like the 22 nosler
Not even sure what an MSR 15 actually is.
Modern sporting rifle 15 aka AR-15?
Shit nigga how long until tons of barrel options come out?
this thing will be a straight laser with 75 Amax or 80gr smk
Coleman Wolf even better with the new 72gr Berger Hybrids and with their 80gr & 90gr too.
I'm interested in this new cartridge. Why do i have to listen to this lousy music?!
Is this the 224 version of 220 Russian?
6.8 SPC
That would be .22 PPC, sort of. The .224 Valkyrie is based on the 6.8 Rem SPC case (which is off the .30 Rem case). 6.5 Grendel and a handful of wildcats are also based on the .220 Russian.
A 6.8SPCII case necked down to .224".
“300”
Rather have a 6.5 Grendel...
lol.....does 6.5 Grendel stay supersonic over 1300 yards? Does 6.5 Grendel have the drop and wind drift characteristics of 6.5 CM? nope. idiot
Now to neck it down to 204 and up to 308
you learn nothing terrible music
Thumbs Down after listening to that music intro.....pure pain to the human ear. My money says you love the bump stock as well-
This video is by Federal Ammunition. I don't know why you think this has anything to do with bump stocks either, considering this round excels at long range precision.
Run back to you safe space
