"Controlled by Harley Quinn and her plants."
You can tell Rob is having dumb amounts of fun with a story when he makes mistakes and doesn't cover them up.

I like this story, because after so much fucking "because i'm Batman" syndrome, it's nice to remember that Batman actually is just a man who doesn't want what happened to him, happen to others, to help criminals, not just beat them up.

Thats why i think the animated Batman series was such a Gem! We had a batman who more or less did everything to help the criminals in his rose gallery who all were humanized to have real motives to being villains.

Yeah I also appreciate the comic gave Gotham more REALISTIC reasons for being a bad city, not just make it some magic magnet for every type of horrific serial killers but instead show the crime is caused by realistic things like the whole Detroit parallel.
Also your “because I’m Batman” I think that also shows the big problem, people have been trying to get rid of the concept of Bruce Wayne and just have Batman when really they are two sides of the same coin that are important to both

Its what Batman does best in, these street level situations. Batman has become so over the top that it's REALLY hard to enjoy the character. He's depicted as far more than just a man these days, which devalues everything that made him special as a hero. A man among 'Gods'.

We need more street level Batman stories, because personally it kind of gets boring reading certain Batman stories involving science fiction, mysticism, or military plots. Batman: War on Crime is prime example of how to do a Batman story.

    • @adonis7626
      @adonis7626 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Brandon Scott Exactly, it’s why Batman TAS and the Neal Adams Stories were so popular back then.
Batman was a street level vigilante who can beat up gangsters (Batman TAS episode "I am The Night") serial killer (the comics with the Grim Ripper Holocaust Survivor), child abusers ("The Underwellers) and can change the mind of the little populace (See the episodes "It’s Never too late", where Batman try to reform a mob boss, the comics "Appointments in Crime Alley", where it’s the birthday of his parents death)
We tend to forget that Batman is born in Crime Alley a shitty Avenue where his parents were killed by a little punk, he’s here to protect the streets and his city, not the planet.
It’s a Basic difference between Superman and Batman.
Superman can protect a planet, Batman can protect a city.

I love stories like Batman :War on Crime. You can have any superhero come into a situation, use their powers or skills, and stop a crime. But you rarely see one open themselves up to someone in order to keep a bad situation from getting worse, instead of pummeling them. That is the best fucking superpower ever.

If ever there was a story I needed to personally seek out after watching your take on it, my gosh, this is such a story! I love Alex Ross and his clean, timeless Rockwell-like depictions of our favorite heroes. The art on display here is quintessential Batman (that chin!), and the humanitarian spirit Bats and Bruce embody is one I think all heroes in their greatest moments should be capable of passing on to others. Exemplary stuff!

Mario Tovar I mean, I would think that would be the point of the bat family?! They aren't just there to help out when Batman can't, they are also there to celebrate in his triumphs as well as their tragedies as well and vice versa. If there was no Alfred, No Bat Family then there would be no Batman, Alfred saved him from going down a dark path and was a massive part of turning Bruce into the man he is today, The Bat family are people he can relate to, he sees himself in a lot of the robins and they all help each other cope with their losses.

This Alex Ross series, there were four, one on Batman, one on Superman, one on wonder woman, one on Captain Marvel/shazam, were great!!!! I think Batman war on crime is one of the best batman stories ever told. And that's what Alex Ross brings to the table, is a return to the golden age era stories of old. His work in DC, kingdom come, justice league 'justice', and these four stand alone stories, are some of the best stuff ever done by DC. It's just nostalgia, and Darwyn Cooke, RIP, also falls into this category, with his artwork mirroring the golden age style of superheros. Justice league new frontier was an amazing story!!!! Just a call back to a simpler time of super heroes. Good stuff Rob!!!

This story is probably one of the deepest and most adult understandings of the character while simultaneously promoting a message that doesn't feel shallow or forced. I like both sides. But I'm a firm believer in the fact that "All great stories must begin, and end, with the human element." and this story does exactly that.

The image of batman hugging Marcus is a beautiful picture.

I have to say that to me, the best part of Batman is his compassion for children. He understands that often times they are overlooked because most people believe that they can get over issues that they experience early on, but Batman understands that pain and how it affects someone young. Moments like this between him and Marcus, or the moment where he sits on the swings with Ace from Justice League Unlimited are probably the best written Batman scenes because it shows the man more so than the bat.

This is my favourite Batman story. And probably why I hated Batman vs Superman so much. The depiction of Batman in that movie was totally removed from the character that I know.
The production team for the next Batman movie needs to read War On Crime before even writing a script.
