    I’m with the group that says Bear helped Earl. My bro had the same type of dog. He would have killed Earl if he “got that aggressive”. Would not shock me if Earl ran into a raccoon and got attacked and Bear came to his defense. Give him some credit. He has not a mean bone in his body

    It's not often that I am unhappy with one of your vids, but this one, I definitely am. Whether Bear attacked Earl or not, it is common sense not to have two entire male dogs in one household. I am very pleased that you are neutering Bear. Hopefully, his hormones will calm down quickly, although this can sometimes take around 8 weeks. Sending Earl lots of love and wishing him a speedy recovery.

    • @FlynVOutfttrsNGundogs-Jordy
      @FlynVOutfttrsNGundogs-Jordy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The pup isn't old enough to ideally neuter. You want them to be done growing before you get rid of those hormones. Having 2 intact males is possible (I breed GSPs and have 3 unaltered males). Resource guarding can be any age, gender, breed, etc etc. If you wanna see a brawl, two females will absolutely trump males in the same sex aggression category. There's absolutely a lethal intention when 2 females get after it.

    • @katieprice3984
      @katieprice3984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can be the best dog behaviorist in the world and still have 2 intact males fight. That's just how their testosterone works. 2 unneutered male dogs will ALWAYS fight. It may not be the first time they meet or the first month but it will happen. This is how dogs keep from interbreeding with each other and keep their species healthy. In a situation where you're not trying to create the most evolutionarily resilient animal it is completely inappropriate to keep them both intact and with access to each other. I'm pretty sure it wasn't bear who attacked him but they both should be sterilized for everyone's safety including their own.

      @lauriewagner6804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm upset, bcs, why would they leave them outside if they were gonna be gone for several hours. Especially a small dog like him. It's only common sense to keep your dog inside when your gonna be gone for several hours.
      Plus, why ITH, are you hear making a video and asking him if he's alright. When you should be at the vet with him? UNBELIEVABLE!

      The thing about it is once 2 males go at it sometimes the larger alpha can really put a whoopin on the lesser. It seems like they would just give a quick bite and leave it at that but they dont . looks like bear really over did it. My brother had 3 males who were all from the same litter. They were large like bear and for the most part they were cool but when it came to food or a ball or toy those 3 would tear each other to pieces. My brother lovef them all and wouldnt get rid of either of the 3. Unfortunately they keep them in separate fenced areas of his ranch. So i feel for you. Earl we love you buddy. Get well soon. And Bear ........we love you too dude. You need to behave once you get fixed cuz you know u messed up.

    Doesn't explain the damage to Earls teeth. That's weird, Bear would have not just snapped him with no other injuries to his mouth. I agree with the vet the cuts don't look to have been from a big dog. Something got up close and slashed Earl. My money is on a coon.

    • @countpicula
      @countpicula 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ve never seen good aggression. It’s not about killing. It’s about biting to get the other dog to back off so you can eat first. If no one backs down it’s s lot of snapping at the face beck legs. Raccoons have claws and leave king multi claw marks. Small, congested bits as the have smaller teeth. Not punctures. That docile nature earl was showing is submissiveness. If he was attacked by a raccoon he wouldn’t be submissive. That’s his way of insuring bear knows he’s not in the fight.

  • @SaberFangs
    @SaberFangs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I think getting Bear fixed is the right call, especially if you are planning to bring in a female for breeding. However I really do think you should consider that it might really not be Bear. Yes he had blood on him but that could of been both from him jumping in on a fight to also be from him trying to check on or comfort Earl. When a dog is hurt, other dogs will usually try to lick or inspect the wounds in their own attempts to help. Considering that Bear only has minor injuries at best, it is more likely that he got the blood from helping or brushing up on Earl. Earl may not be as big of a dog but it is very hard to believe that he wouldn't have ripped a good bit on Bear, beyond just punctures, in a fight for his life.
    Also his behavior a lot of people are seeing as guilt is more attuned to a dog seeking comfort. His buddy possibly got attacked and really badly hurt before being taken away. Poor Bear was more likely looking to you for comfort and assurance that all is ok.
    It really does sound and look like the vet is likely right that some animal attacked Earl.

    Oh my !!!!!
    Did Earl get out of the house ???
    I've provided 38 years Non Profit Private Animal Rescue.....poor little guy ! ❤
    Watch closely for infection....fyi, his posture in vehicle and not laying down is serious pain :(:( .....the arched back also had me concerned....
    Are you sure it was not a wild animal ?? ....that would also trigger Bear to protect and jump in.
    Understanding dog behavior is crucial. This is a good example of preventable situations.
    Well ....without it having been witnessed, there's no knowing what happened for sure. ....??
    Two things are for certain......and I say this out of Love ...and MUCH experience.....
    1. Earl , for whatever reason, should not have been outside, unprotected, ... and his size makes him more vulnerable to many dangers.
    2. You stated you've noticed aggression prior to the incident. That means Red Flags were not taken seriously.
    Again, ....Love and Blessings to you all, .....but coming from an Animal Trainer, .....the Fault.......is really on you.
    I know nobody wants to hear that, but with a soft reassuring voice if you could hear me, I'm making a common, truthful observation 🙏
    You seem like wonderful people, ..... I just think you may have learned a very valuable lesson.......and by sharing this video, you educate others, ....and that is the positive that comes from all this.
    Again, ...with love, .....Bless each of you.

    You can see Bear did it! Look at 20:57! He didn't want to come outside & was backing up when he seen Bear!! I have 2 males labs not fixed & I've had to keep them separated 24 7 for over the last year! When one is in the cage, the other one is out then we keep rotating.
    They fought 4 times & idk if it was from my female being around even tho she was fixed. (She's no longer here, sadly had to put her down this last May) or it's from dominance. The first fight was next to the food bowl. I had mom, dad & son. Its not easy keeping them separated but the dad is almost 13 & can't handle that stress. His son is almost 9.

    I know you may never see this, but I am adding my 2 cents worth. As a former vet assistant, I would be inclined to believe, based upon Earl's wounds, that Earl may have gone after a racoon that was eating his food. It has been my experience that when a large dog attacks a smaller dog enough to create that kind of bruising, without human intervention to break up the fight it does not end well for the smaller dog. However, if Earl defended his food bowl against a raccoon which in turn fought back it is possible that Bear tried to intervene and may have accidently injured Earl. It is also possible depending on the size of raccoon both dogs could have been injured by one raccoon. My personal mastiff mix dog took out a raccoon that was fighting the other two dogs over their food bowl. Fortunately, only the raccoon suffered in that melee. My big dog grabbed him by the back of his head and shook him for all he was worth. He broke his neck. Having said that my other two dogs are both in the 50 pound range and wouldn't take on that 25 pound coon. Now, having Bear neutered is your decision and it is a good one for a number of reasons. I am glad that Earl will survive.

Rowdy almost Killed Brasi. The Wife, right off the bat, blamed Rowdy and wanted to get rid of him. Later we found out Brasi was the aggressor. Moral of the story, don't jump to conclusions.
    Brasi was eventually adopted by a Trucker and is accompanying the Trucker on his runs. So it is a happy ending for both dogs

    Bear looks like "Sorry dad, the coon got to him before I could get to it" just as he would look like if something attacked a baby goat and he was to late. We all saw how he took down the piglet without it being wounded. Earl is just shell shocked, not scared of Bear, if he was he would lay down submissively when Bear came close. Having Bear fixed will stop him from straying when the neighbors dog is in heat, so a good idea. Look at the dogs body languish, Earl clearly is buddy with Bear, no competition between them. No more feeding on the terrace to attract coon and possums.

    My first thought was racoon. I don't think Earl would make it through an attack by Bear. Multiple bite wounds and the skin cut/ tear sure sounds more like racoon than a big dog. Pretty sure Bear would have broken or crushed bones. Either way, having to intact males can certainly be a territorial challenge!

    The wounds are not what you would get from bear. They would be deep puncture wounds mostly to the neck area. Raccoons attack the face and front legs which is what you have here. My cane corso engaged a racoon and stopped when it became 3 on 1. On both dogs. I have known dogs that don't pay any attention to each other come to the others defense when it is attacked by another dog or animal. Bear is a guardian dog and thinks that way. He may snap at a playful puppy but I am pretty sure he did not hurt him. I think you are projecting way too much and not looking at the evidence.

    I think Bears body language was in response to Daniel’s voice and attitude towards him. He could sense the disapproval and judgement. If you do not have footage of the attack I think you have to give bear proper justice by letting him be innocent until proven guilty. And you will need to change your feeding habits because you may be drawing raccoons onto your porch. If you are really worried about them being together without supervision then you will need to provide the supervision and or just keep them apart when you can not be with them. I really do not think you can judge bear from his body language or some blood. The blood and some signs of injury can also be from a wild animal. Bear is smart and realized you are not happy with him and responded accordingly!!

I wound up getting seriously bitten myself in my efforets to STOP them. With all due respect...here's a few suggestions; Going forward,never feed the dogs together or in a common area, consider making Earl an "indoor dog''(using a leash or run for bathroom breaks), always keep the security cameras on the pets, and have Earl supervised 100% of the time when not indoors. Ideas may sound overly cautious and/or harsh, but the bottom line=Earl is no match for either predatory raccoons OR your LGD Bear,

    Can't help but feel if it really was Bear, we wouldn't be seeing Earl in this video. Totally no match!
    I wouldn't put too much store in Bear's body language, either. If I talk down to my dogs, they roll belly up even if they're completely innocent. Give Bear a bye on this one and use an ounce of prevention by putting Earl in the garage when you're gone if he can't be supervised.

    Yes Daniel I have to believe that it was a raccoon. From the start of the vidieo I said it had to be a raccoon . Bear was acting a little guilty, because Earl got hurt on his watch. Bears canines are very large and I would think that with the amount of wounds on earl that he probably would have ripped skin away and broken bones. I’ve seen dogs that have fought coons, and let me tell you those coons can inflict horrible damage on a dog. I’m sticking on bears side. I think he came in late in Earls defense and did what you have him for “ protection “. Anyway that’s my two cents on this Sulphur Oklahoma canine mystery…..BEAR for President! …..poor Earl.

      I agree 100%. Bear came to Earl's defense while a raccoon was ripping his chest open. Bear saved Earl from worse damage and possibly saved his life. A few years ago a bobcat nearly killed my neighbor's Jack Russell Terrior right in his own backyard. The little dog had just gone out to potty and the bobcat attacked. If my neighbor hadn't been inside and heard the fight and ran off the bobcat, the vet said her dog would have died.

      Nah that ain't know raccoon. I've seen what a raccoon does to a dog and I've seen what kind of damage a dog does ain't know raccoon nearly snatching a dogs lower teeth out like that they don't have the jaw power. Plus a dogs bite on another dog looks like little patches knocked out of a dog's fur and deep gashes dogs teeth aren't meant for slashing like you think so there just pulling out large chunks of flush like your thinking they can but you don't even see that much in a pitbull fight that happens more with people than dogs if anything it's going to give him big deep gashes depending on how long the fight was and since we don't know how long the fight actually was he more than likely didn't fight him very long for what damage he did do and you aren't going to see broken bones if he wasn't going for the legs or if they weren't fighting very long. Your just trying to take up for bear If bear did it it's best to face the facts and something needs to be done about it either make it where they don't have contact with each other or maybe get one or both of them fixed. It was either bear or another dog. If bear has small scars and blood on him that means he was fighting. If bear got a hold of a coon that would be one dead coon because bear could take a coon easy and with a coon fight you'd find hair patches on the ground that's a very clear sign of a coon fight because they have long hair and when a dog fights a coon it comes out in patches I would know my dog has killed multiple coons and my barn cat has fought a few coons as well. Plus like he said it started off as little bites guess what happens if the dog isn't corrected properly the dog after a while will full on attack the other dog regardless if they they live together and have been friendly to each other.

    Nope, Bear doesn't have any injuries that match the damage done to Earl's teeth... it was either a raccoon... or a smaller dog.

    Just reposting this here as it failed to post on your latest video.
    I've been watching your channel for over 2 years, haven't commented
    before, and appreciate that you tell it like it is with your farm
    animals. This has to include your working dog Bear. Like other viewers,
    my first instinct with Bear being blamed was unhappiness and I thought
    it was unfair. I've watched Bear grow up and he puts in a hard and
    honest day's work every day. He was there first. It's his patch and his
    territory. His gentle temperment with the kids is also incredible as
    many working dogs I know are aloof and all business and only answer to
    one alpha male human. But having Bear neutered is a gift for him and one
    of the kindest things you can do. Neutered male dogs live longer, are
    healthier, develop fewer cancers and tend not to get into as many bloody
    scraps with other male dogs. One day, Bear will be an old boy and if he
    charges into a fight with another male dog he'll really take damage and
    suffer. Over the years, we've grown to see dogs as little humans or fur
    babies. They aren't. They don't behave like children and have their own
    instincts. We don't do animals any favour by pretending they are
    humans. Having Bear fixed is a kindness both for him and for future
    unwanted litters of his puppies. Who knows if Bear rally mauled your
    house dog. But it's put the push on to get him fixed and that's at least
    one positive outcome from a bad situation. You did right.

    To put it simply, Earl is a foo foo dog, not a farm dog. He should have been left in the house when you were gone. It's not necessarily Bear who needs to be neutered but more Earl. Earl has become a obnoxiousness sexual teenager. Bear is just being the dog he needs to be to do the job that he was given. Bear more or less told Earl "Not so fast short stuff." That is why Bear has started over marking. Bear could have easily killed Earl and he didn't, you all got lucky. Bear is not the problem, human error was. Neuter your non-working dog , keep him inside when you are not home. That will fix 90% of your problem... And please people who keep blaming the wild life for attacking Earl.. Even if that were true, not mincing words here, human error caused it.....

    Both boys need to be neutered if you want peace. If you find that there are still issues, that may be the option, or to keep Earl away from Bear, all together. Bear will always protect, whether he's intact or not, but if only one is neutered, you still have the hormone issue, and Bear may become even more dominant, because he's going to try and dominate an intact male. It's kind of an all or none situation. I worked for a shelter for 20yrs, and I trained dogs, and the #1 complaint of dogs coming into the shelter was because either neither were neutered or only 1. Earl will possibly need it too, or you could possibly still have issues, and poor Earl will lose every time. I have a yorkie and a dane. The yorkie is the dominant. I had to neuter both to have peace. Because, yorkies like to start fights they can't finish! Give Earl a hug, and pet ole Bear's head. He's just being a dog, after all. Hormones rule their brain sometimes! lol

    • @jtdamomma
      @jtdamomma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JUSTICEK I understand your comment and opinion, but we can't judge someone, just because they have an un-neutered dog. His dog is not roaming, making babies everywhere. He is a responsible owner. I have no qualms with someone that is responsible with intact animals, if they aren't running all over God's creation, and breeding any female around. If issues continue, I would suggest getting both done. Trying Bear first will test the waters. It'll take about 30 days before the neuter even takes affect in behavioral changes. I don't condemn owners, just because they aren't fixed. I may judge owners that let their intact animals roam. The Arms are not those type people. They truly love and care for their animals. They are not irresponsible. Try not to judge a person's character, by one accident.

    Too bad but Bear is getting all of the blame! We've had many breeds and sizes of dogs and the little yorkie males were usually the fight starters. Just because earl came out worse doesn't mean that Bear started the fight over a food bowl. Only they know for sure!

    • @Deninex
      @Deninex 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly! Most little dogs are the trouble makers.. Earl the non-working dog needs the neuter, not Bear. Bear has a job to do and he needs his balls to do it.

    • @garyl3819
      @garyl3819 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Deninex I feel sorry for Bear whether he's the instigator or not. The little cute fluffy dog has entered Bear's territory after several years of being the big bad animal watch dog and now Bear is potentially being cast aside for doing what comes naturally to a dominant male. They just need to keep them apart imho. We had a male yorkie get his head chomped one time because I foolishly set a bowl of egg on the kitchen floor with several dogs in the house. For months this little stud had been first to the food bowls and would scare the chocolate lab female pup away. This time she had learned the lesson that he taught her and decided that she was bigger than he. Painful lesson for the little guy. I'm sorry that Earl is so badly injured for sure!

    I would agree with the vet’s assessment. Bear might be upsetand feels guilty that he did not protect Earl well enough. However, it would be wise to follow the precautions suggested (and get Bear neutered as planned) just in case the dogs did fight each other. I’m sure you are keeping a close eye on Bear’s wounds, watching for infection. Prayers for Earl’s recovery and hope he does not have any lasting emotional effects from the incident.🙏🙏🙏

    It saddens me that getting rid of Bear was even on the table. I know for now he is staying, but I fear if it really was a dog fight that it is bound to happen again. He has protected your animals from coyotes and other predators for years and has gotten along well with the other dogs. Bear has been nothing but loyal. Earl is the newcomer to the pack. I think it would be easier for Earl to settle with a new family than Bear going to a new farm where he has to learn a new herd of animals and a new property. If a new dog is brought into the fold and it changes the pack dynamics in an undesirable way then they should be the one to go. Why does Earl need to be bred? There are thousands of dogs that are euthanized every day in shelters. Encourage families to adopt from shelters.

    • @nellmarie98

      If they get rid of bear, every animal on their property becomes a smorgasbord for the animals that roam their property at night. Even the mini cows, the donkey poodles and donkeys. Im sure the loss of goats wouldn't bother them also much as Daniel has mentioned several times he is drifting away from raising goats as a main livestock animal.

    I'm still thinking raccoon first! Bear shaking could be a little in shock of witnessing the trauma or also trying to defend Earl! We live right in middle of our city! We had a raccoon kill our cat, we had a necropsy done because we thought it was a bebe gun! We had a raccoon grab our Yorkie by tail/back end, the screech she made, I was afraid she was dead! Mind you, this was in our fenced in back yard! She shook all evening! She was scared for awhile, even to go outside! We have had multiple incidences with raccoons! No food, garden, or anything to attract them, except small animals, rabbit, cats, dogs! We had a friend, same city, have her small dog out on a tie-out chain, went around corner of house, attacked by raccoon and killed, in just a few minutes! She heard the first couple screeches and that was it! That was alot of lacerations and bites for a first incident poss with bear! I'm so glad you aren't getting rid of Bear and are having him neutered! Also, when Earl was at doorway and bear came up, she didn't back up and act scared, they greeted each other, and after bear walked away, no way was Earl going outside! Just a few things to think about! God bless you all, including all the farm animals!
