Exactly! Neutering himbis great. I was just very upset Bear was being blamed for nearly killing Earl. When it most likely was Bear stepping in that saved Earl. Daniel should have never said that because he knows, and we know, Bear would not deliberately hurt Earl or any other animal that belongs to his (Bear's) family. I'm thrilled he's getting neutered. From my experience in coon hunting and what they can do to dogs without a vest on is just like what happened to Earl. You need to Neuter Earl there are already too many breeders in the world with not enough homes for all the puppies. It's not fair to bear. Also, think about, which dog is a constructive member of the family? Bear is as he protects your animals. Earl is just a family pet with no work ethic. Not fair to bear, they should both be neutered. Emotions should never take over logic. What if earl attacked bear? He is a rambunctious dog with animals. Bear was gentle with the wild piglet that got loose from the trap and held it down while Earl was going crazy. I'm on team Bear. My working animals come before any of my other dogs, They're family too.

Also getting one male neutered won’t fix an aggression issue IF they did fight. I don’t believe bear did that for a second although if earl let’s testosterone get the best of him neutering bear won’t stop him from defending himself. If testosterone is the issue it needs handled with BOTH males. I don’t agree with backyard breeders either when million dogs are killed every year in shelters. Bear deserves more trust he most likely stopped the attack.

We fear you are simply ignorant (unlearned) about how your family is blatenly contributing to the over population of pets. Kill shelters.would you like that for your animals. Please man-up and teach your children as well. Stop buying dogs and cats and ADOPT and rescue. Take a look on Facebook, go to the Asher House. Having Bear neutered was the kindest thing you could've done for him. Now once he is neutered, it takes about a month for the hormones to stop raging, so it is wise to keep him in a fenced yard or somewhere restricted for his own safety. Your vet should have explained that, which I am sure they did.
I also loved your man cave is getting the "Daniel touch"!! Every man or woman should have a room they can call their own, if anything, just to be creative. Me, I use my huge walking closet. My son and DIL have the basement set up really nice and bought an easy chair just for me when we decide to watch movies or TV together.
Your workshop is a really cool size, putting your mounts up is wonderful to see the generation carrying on the hunting tradition.
Please post pictures when you have it all done. You're a wonderful family, based first in the Holy Trinity, get on well with your in-laws (Dusty and family ar Cross Timbers Bison), and help the community (and thank you for your years as a Oklahoma State Trooper. My husband worked as an outside consultant for the Los Angeles County Sheriff and before that the Macomb County, Michigan Sheriff Office as a teen liaison officer. He passed unexpectedly on August 19th, 2008.) It is very heartening to see folks, like yourselves speak openly about your faith, never heard a cuss word part your lips, have 3 wonderful and very respectful kids, and do much more. God says to turn other cheek, and doing what is right for Bear will be the best for him in the long run

I have learned so much about gardening and even raising animals from you. You have such a beautiful family. i will always continue to watch and learn from you. With that said, this is just my opinion and i don't mean any disrespect at all. When you first posted about Earl getting attached and was explaining what YOU thought had happened, for the first time since quitting law enforcement i seen that side of you again. You immediately judged Bear, just like some cops do. You said several times that Bear acted guilty. What i seem was Bear reacting to your tone and he was being very submissive as of way of not making you angry. If Bear and Earl had had issues with each other a few times before it seems maybe you missed you window to have prevented this from happening. However if you had separated Bear and Earl ya'll might have came home and found poor little Earl dead. I have yet to see you own up to your part of Earl getting hurt. I have heard you mention lots of wild animals on your property and we have seen videos of such. Maybe Earl should have been put inside while ya'll were gone for his on safety. Bear, being a GUARD DOG, maybe for him that meant guarding and protecting Earl as well. I am in agreement with others that think it was raccoons that attacked Earl and Bear came running to help. If Bear heard them fighting then naturally his instinct is to protect what's on his property and he got bit in the process. I am in agreement of getting him fixed but maybe just consider my thoughts. Blessing to your and your family and may GOD continue to bless you sir.

Smart people get their pets spayed and neutered. As a vet tech of 15 years, I know that it is best to spay and neuter the large breed dog at around 9-12 months so that they have those hormones coursing through to support bone and joint growth. Otherwise you can do it around 6-8 months on the smaller breeds. Spaying reduces mammary tumours and neutering reduces testicular cancer. Spayed and neutered pets are happier as well. Generally those that don't spay and especially neuter are usually men who seem to connect their testicles with their pets. You made the right decision!

I will weigh in on neutering an older male. Mine was a cat. One evening after my Tuxedo boy was neutered, another male cat entered my yard. JayDee was minding his business until the intruder started growling and crouching. My boy crouched, growled back and prepared for the melee. He was not fazed and knew exactly how to respond to defend his territory. I can see where you are coming from in your concerns, and you know how to investigate things. I think of the Vet’s input as a bit more forensic. Thus, inclined to agree with the Vet about the raccoon. Praying for Earl’s cont’d recovery and for Bear too.

Hi Daniel…I’m fairly new to your channel and thoroughly enjoy watching! We, my mom (whom I take care of) and I have 2 male cats that are step brothers. One is a one year old fixed Maine Coon and the other is a 14 week old mixed breed currently not neutered. We thought that they would be fine being brothers but the older one attacks…is dominate over the kitten to the point where he lays on him and bites him. We are getting the kitten fixed which unfortunately there is a long waiting list.
Fixing your pets is not only a very responsible thing but a private family decision that doesn’t need the approval of any viewers. I believe some other animal…raccoon…attacked Earl (great name) and it’s possible that once Bear started fighting off the raccoon, Earl may have been scratched or minorly bit in the tussle. I believe the major of Earls injuries came from the raccoon.

Linda Hipp - It's kind of hard when you see all the lovely kittens and puppies that need a home and never get one, to keep your mouth shut.

I am glad Earl and Bear are both recovering well. It is for the best. My uncle had a dof that impregnated a neighbors "prized pomeranian" and the owners threw a fit that their dog was "tainted" by another breed of puppies. They threatened court if he didn't help with vet bills and selling the pups. So it's understandable to fix a free roaming dog like Bear. Congrats on your heating/cooling system, that's going to be a game changer in those hot summer months when you want to work on a project in the shop.
