you guys always showing the whole process with the good and bad is so helpful, because when things don’t go right it can be discouraging, the way you all persevere is very motivating

I was about to get the led, but thanks to your advice about the swivel I will stick with the fluorescent. Thanks for saving me a return trip to the store to return the led

Good to know! They fixed my light with a different fixture this year and it just blew out. Have to take mine out to see if that part moves also . Saved me a lot of aggravation if that would be a problem and would have to get the super ! Like to take care of things myself ! Thank you !👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

this is very helpful! I live in a rental but the maintenance crew takes several acts of god to summon. I have been cooking by lamp light for 2 weeks now. you have now given me the confidence to tackle changing the kitchen light myself!

AND 56 MINUTES LATER I HAVE AN ILLUMINATED KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you for this simple but effective tutorial. The swivel information was particularly important, as I would've been drawn to the LED I saw at the hardware store down the street. But I stuck with my convictions and have a functional kitchen once more.

The “4100” number on lamp is the color temperature (cool white) of lamp, not the lumen output. Those LED circline lamps were made to replace the fluorescent version of the lamp. It was most likely a manufacturer oversight not putting a swivel connector on lamp. The LED circline lamp probably works fine in the most common fixtures, but ceiling fans with fluorescent lamps are probably a bit different from the most common. When buying an LED replacement lamp for a fluorescent, you need to confirm it will work off existing fluorescent ballast, which the LED lamp did. Otherwise, you need to disconnect the ballast and connect the hot and neutral wires directly to Lampholder. The LED lamp packaging will tell you the electrical requirements.

This was really helpful! I found a vintage work lamp that requires a circular tube bulb and I was worried about the noise that tube lights make and cost. But these bulbs look great and aren’t expensive.

People tend to go with LED change because it saves money over time. Much longer lifespan ... can use different power supply too.

LED would have worked by taking the first tie down on the cord off so it would meet the socket better. LED=better light quality, cooler temperature, longer lasting. You'll have to replace 4 or 5 florescent for 1 LED. IMHO

at 2:27 the DIYer actually thought about removing the zip tie. Like you suggested, I think that would've allowed the socket to move free and twist to fit the LED replacement. Maybe the zip tie was so tight he couldn't snip it without damaging wire. I have to do same procedure so I think I'll still go with LED.

Isn't the problem that the LED bulb is just a tiny bit bigger in diameter, and you could just bend the clips to make it fit. As for the price, the selectable color temperature probably adds some cost. The benefit of the LED is that it only uses half the power. You would save 16 watts. If you have it on for 6 hours a day on average, you will save 35 units of electricity a year, that is at least $5 a year, so it will pay for the extra cost in 2 years or sooner.

What do you do when your wife consistently puts a freezer in front of the panel box so now you can't turn the power off. After repeatedly telling her keep the panel box clear. I know what I would have done 20 years ago. But I ain't guy any more.

Wait u turned your fluorescent light to led light with doing a ballist bypass . Sure it will work but wont the led will get too hot and shut off!

Joe, we didn't change it to LED because the LED light was unable to twist like the frourescent bulb did. -DIYPC 😃✨

What he meant is you can't just plug in the LED, even tho you went back to fluorescent. You would have to rewire it to bypass the ballast. That little square terminal thing that the plug connects to

Are you able to find high CRI bulbs in older formats like t9 circlines, 15 and 20 watt t12s, and 15 watt t8s? I have trouble finding them, especially in cool white.

LED is boring. Fluorescent lamps are based on plasma, the 4th state of matter, the most beautiful sight in the universe.

Sure, but surely you don't like wasting electricity for the same lumen output.
