Good day Mr. Finn. Excellent channel! I recently bought a 2007 Camry with the 2.4l engine. It has 176 000 km or approx. 110 000 miles on it and runs very smooth. I guess some of these engines were notorious oil burners but luckily not this one. Are there any common problems I should be aware of with this engine? What about timing belt changes? I enjoy your channel very much. Loyal subscriber. Thank you.

It is a maintenance free Chain! oil should be changed every 5000 miles(i know the manual says 7000 but I recommend sooner to prevent oil consumption or burning!) and a good full synthetic such as Mobile 1, Penzoil, or Valvoline should be used! And a good filter such as a Bosch or Fram Ultra should be used

Costs about 8~9 dollars on ebay. Mine was stuck and clogged up. And after changing the PCV the minor oil leakage and oil burning have dimished. I also have removed air intake valve and did a thorough cleaning too. MAF, Air-fuel ratio sensor changed but not really related to oil consumption. Hope this helps.

1 gallon is the total engine capacity. You need to add oil each gas fill up. If you wait that engine will seize on you.

Needs Castrol Magnatec and it'll sound much quieter plus a 2 yearly spray with WD40 every where incl underneath and that'll eliminate any rust.Top tip.Respect from London UK.

@@tardeliesmagic Can you elaborate? You're saying to use Castrol Magnatec motor oil, instead of Mobile One? And, you say to spray WD40 everywhere, but WD40 on any belt would be bad as it will decrease friction and attract dust/dirt...?
I love WD40, in fact once a year I spray an entire can of WD40 into the intake while it idles to clean out the combustion chambers. Also once every 5 oil changes, I flush the crankcase with WD40 by spraying a can in the crankcase while it idles, then idle another 20 min just before oil change. Works magic. (407,000 miles on 2009, 2.4 Camry now)

Have you solved the issue? I have your same engine, but 2009 camry 2az-fe. It now has 407,000 miles, so I know this car very well. I get an occasional metal scrapping sound while turning and accelerating, but I think it's just a heat-shield or an exhaust pipe that's loose because it does not affect drivability.
