He certainly wasn't a coward, he did his duty exactly what he was supposed to do, then went on to serve his country. A brave man in my book. Thanks Paul xxx
I checked him out via Encyclopaedia Titanica. They have his life story and extracts from the Titanic Enquiry, where he gave evidence. He went above and beyond, discharged his duties and followed his orders which were to take his place in a lifeboat with passengers. He served in the trenches and was honourably discharged due to arthritis, as a result of his lifeboat capsizing and time spent in the icy water. Don't know about hero, but I doubt that he was a coward, either. He did his duty. Easy, from the warmth and comfort of our living rooms, to judge or make assumptions...but what would any one of us done in his place? So it's a 👍from me....and for you too, Paul...that was great.
Hi Paul. Just caught up with this one. As other channel members have said, he did his duty, he carried out his orders, he saved lives. That in itself is not necessarily an act of heroism but certainly nowhere near the actions of a coward. He did what was asked of him and no-one can ask for more than that. I think that the problem with the Titanic sinking is that regardless of the information gathered at the Board of Enquiry, the whole situation was one of chaos, confusion and shear panic. The original film made about the disaster painted a picture of order and stiff upper lip British ‘duty’ whether it was the manning of the lifeboats or the band playing on as the ship slipped beneath the waves. Frankly, I doubt the reality was anything like that! Passengers and crew were in a frightful situation in the middle of nowhere in freezing conditions in the middle of the night on a sinking ship with not enough lifeboats that they had been told was ‘unsinkable’. It is unfair to suggest any crew member that survived was a coward when these men were told to man a lifeboat. There would have been few if any paying passengers with the knowledge, skill and strength to row their fellow passengers to safety plus many of those in the lifeboats were women and children. As we know, other crew members that survived were labelled as cowards and even rejected by their families BECAUSE they survived! Crew members that survived because they had been given an order to man a particular lifeboat were certainly not cowards and in most but not all cases, neither were they heroes. They were just lucky! As always, keep ‘em coming!
I think he did the right thing. He saved other people and then saved himself. Went onto serve in the War and on other sea vessels. And probably suffered a lot of emotional distress having seen what he did that night and endured.
Shirley rd… grew up there….. I don’t think you could blame him.. he got the lifeboat filled , he couldn’t know how things were going to pan out… I like him…braver than I am 💐🧙🏻♀
No way the world could think he was a coward he did what he could an help I glad he got though it an lived when so many did not A hero in my eyes that help care an lived to to see the world revolves to what it is today rip sir we got your back like u did they
Anyone that was on that ship that night were hero’s He certainly proved himself over his time during both Wars Any human being would have had a degree of self preservation it’s called survival Wilfred Seward I salute you & thank you for your Service Thanks Paul great video 👍🏻
He put other lifes before his own assisting pther lifes on the life boat and to have the honour of serving our country my own personal view hes a hero god bless you wilfred
He was an absolute hero! To save people on that dreadful night and serve in 2 world wars... LEGEND. The fact his grave lay unmarked for all that time is a disgrace!
I have always had a fascination with the Titanic. It's incredible how many perished! I think he was a hero. He was not the only man who made it on the lifeboats. He made something of his life afterwards. He didn't seem to seek fame as being on the Titanic. He had a family. Thanks for sharing!
I believe he did what was required of him at that time, he sure did love the sea ,even after titanic, we all want to live as long as possible, he even lived in my old street in Liverpool, white rock street, so I have a sort of connection to him, I was there in 1952-3
No way was this man a coward . He saved lives , & then did what any of us would have done , & saved himself as well . He also went on to fight for his country , helping to save even more lives . This man is a hero in my book . God bless May he and hid good lady wife rest in peace ......
Hi Paul, I think he did his duty and nobody should judge him , who knows what any of us would do in the same circumstances. In the Victorian era there was terrible tragedy that took place on the Thames near Greenwich when a pleasure boat sank and almost a thousand people were drowned within sight of the banks of the river. I know more than twice that number died on titanic but the Princess Alice pleasure boat disaster has been mainly forgotten. I so look forward to your videos please keep up the good work ❤
An amazing story of an exceptional man who suffered the trauma of many on that dreadful night . We will never know what happened that night or what was going through The minds of all the people panicking to survive RIP
I wouldnt want to criticise anyone on the Titanic who escaped with their lives. Put yourself in that position and think what you would have done. The fact he served on other ships afterwards and joined up to serve in 2 world wars shows beyond doubt this man was no coward.
He has done no wrong , he saved others , then he saved himself , question is what would either of us have done , if I was young I’d probably have done the same as him . If I was old I’d of def gone down with the boat . Those that survived had to live with a lot of trauma ptsd , this man went to war too. He suffered enough I think . Bless him
Great video Paul very informative I’ve visited this graveyard many times over the years my grandparents are buried here and I never new until I watched your video there was a titanic survivor buried here ‘maybe next time your in N ireland you could visit the grave of a football legend from this area former Manchester utd goalkeeper harry gregg and hero of the Munich air disaster thanks
1914 was a tough year for this guy! I have read so many accounts and books on the Titanic, the only people who should ever be criticised are the owners of the boat. He certainly was no coward and that is reinforced by then volunteering to fight for our country, I doubt he would have seen the medical discharge coming as many men medically unfit and underaged where enlisted by “over keen” and blinkered recruiters. He rests at peace now and history means nothing to the dead, just those they leave behind. So for me I say, thank you for your service to your country, the passengers you helped and saved and RIP. Great video as always Paul, looking forward to the next one.
If this man was a self preservationist then he served at the same time and Battles as Capt. Noel Godfrey Chavasse VC & Bar ! That would take some metal!
Nobody knows what he really went through but he helped people and saved himself, Liked this video as we dont usually see you walking around ( guess Lee was filming ) Keep up the great work as I will watch as long as you continue .
I'm currently watching this episode, and I must say I'm loving how your new 4k camera is working out. The clouds in this video just pop. Beautifully clear. And how creative you're getting with someone recording you as you walk amongst the tombstones. You need to win an Oscar for cinematography at least lol. Love the newer vids with that camera. Cheers
He did what he was supposed to, he assisted others aboard the lifeboat he was assigned to, it was his job to man it. He then served in the two world wars as well. Many didn't!
My personal opinion is that he's a hero, he saved peoples lives, after that why should he choose to drown? It would've been brave to be in that water and then to even go near the waters after the sinking of the Titanic is very very gutsy, I salute this brave man, rip Wilfred and thank you for who you saved xx
I live near Ballymoney and i think this man was an absolute hero. What he went through in his life was totally remarkable. May he rest in peace. Many thanks for sharing this video.
Thank you for sharing this very interesting story. I personally think hes a hero because he served in 2 wars aswell as being on the titanic he did get people to safety even though he saved himself aswell. Anyone who serves their country is a hero in my eyes love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙 💚
There are several periods that interest me, Egyptians, Tudors,Victorians and the Titanic. Conspiracies about Kennedy and 911. Thanks for this one. Like the opening black and white, and the drone filming and the slow mo " walking man" Your getting slick with your presentation. Don't change the music, you own it. Thanks again.
He had a duty, but as some of us in the titanic society say if there was a song back then existed it would of been the self preservation society with a lot of them on there, I think a lot of us would be in that boat. But he did his job and put others before him....and I stand by that.
after something as traumatic as the titanic sinking l think that night it was everyone for there selves but he must have done what he could the save others before himself, l think he was brave especially returning to work on ocean liners after that good to hear he had a long fulfilled life.
Truely love the titanic graves and all the information you share, I’ll never tire of your videos. The titanic was a moment in history that will forever continue telling its story ❤
I think awful thing to have to go through for everybody concerned. At the end of the day he was one of the lucky ones and also I think he’s a very brave person to actually go back on a ship after what he went through.
Paul, Another great Titanic episode. Hero or coward, I think we will never know for sure so we have to give him the benefit. I have not heard of crew being assigned lifeboats before. Cant see how they could have done that when there wasn’t enough. Can understand deck crew being assigned in order to operate them. Regards, Bob
Hi Paul …I love your new intro….it’s class ….Lovely video …it’s a hard one …maybe being in the water caused hm to have a disability…im surprised he didn’t have ptsd what he saw with the titanic ….it’s really sad the hard times and things that he went threw …Thankyou Paul for a lovely video X🩵
Seward had to end up being a Steward! I feel he did his duty in all the things he undertook. He wasn't workshy and had a long working life. Good man I would say. Loving the panoramic views from Ballymoney, that sky looked amazing! Have to say, the graveyard looks very well kept.
Another great video Paul,if he had done any wrong doing on the Titanic then he wouldn’t have been able to serve on any other ship, what everyone went threw that night no one can imagine rip sir and may u rest in peace,x
It's very sad, but not a coward. I can not imagine what it was like on that night on the Titanic, but he didn't think of himself he saved others which is brave in itself. Plus to go back and serve on other ships must have took some doing after what he did and what he must have seen. RI P 😢
I have been sponsoring Famous Survivors of the Titanic on Find A Grave....and one of the ones I just sponsored was Wilfred Deable Seward....Thank you for bringing us his story and visiting his grave Paul! God Bless!
I think he was a hero everyone was scared on that dreadful night when water was everywhere getting higher and higher as you said he help with the evacuation assisting people in to the lifeboats RIP Wilfred and thank you paul x
All people on that ship went through hell and faced their worst nightmares. To get on with life afterwards and carry on with all the emotional baggage through war times and working life must have been very hard. The things they witnessed will have stayed with them all their lives. If we put ourselves in anyone’s shoes on board they must have been scared beyond comprehension .
With hindsight i dont know what any human being would have done on that fateful voyage and subsequent disaster. Would i have stayed, i cant honestly say. Would i have ran, i dont know 100%. But what i do know is anyone on that ship going through all that were heroes and i hope they ALL rest in peace 🙏😔
Hiya Paul, I don't think Wilfred was a coward, what Wilfred done during the great war, its great what your doing with these vlogs on the Titanic, excellent work, its good that your travelling to Belfast, I'm going to watch this vlog once again later, as I was falling to sleep last night, I like the new intro, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
He was far from a coward, that night must of been horrendous, he did his best to help others. He definitely had an infinity with the sea to carry on sailing I personally would stay clear of ships if I had survived the titanic. So good to see that he eventually got the headstone he deserved. Beautiful cemetary , thank you as always for making and sharing this video with us all
Looking into this I believe he did the right thing as you said Paul he went on to serve in two world wars and survived. No one will really know what it was like on that night when the Titanic went down in my eyes he-is a hero
The life boats had to have seamen on them to crew them and the fact that he signed up for WW1 and went on to serve in many other ships, several in wartime, he doesn't sound like a coward to me. I think he just did what he had to and was one of the lucky ones. Let's face it, Lightoller who was a high ranking officer was on board a life boat and survived so why shouldn't Wilfred have been one of the lucky ones. Rest In Peace Wilfred, don't think you have anything to be ashamed of.
Hi Paul I Don't think he was coward, personally I think it's wrong g to judge anyone in that awful situation aboard the Titanic. Thankyou very interesting, and great camera work. 👍
Hi Paul, as usual, great video and the new camera is epic! I'm sure I've mentioned this one before 'the chatham bus disaster' involving 24 sea cadets? A great one for the crime files and two locations for a visit. Dock Rd, Chatham (plaque erected), and Woodlands cemetery, Gillingham where the kids aged 9 -13 are buried. 😢
Being on board the Titanic was so traumatic for him the only issue is the time he was in the water because although I am no expert most people in the water did not survive due to freezing to death very quickly but he served his country and that makes him.a hero too that snd for him to go back on to the ships again after the sinking of the Titanc which was supposed to be unsinkable
I'd say he did his part. None of us know what we would do in that situation out of fear. I thought he resembled Benedict Cumberbatch as a young man. Paul, what were those yellow oval shaped looking things on two of the graves?. A beautiful sky for filming.
Hi Paul, he couldn't have survived for two hours in the water, as the cold would have killed him. What are the "cream coloured stones oval shaped on some graves? Love your video Paul ❤xxxx
Another great vids Paul. I like your T-shirt. I don’t think he did anything wrong and we don’t know for sure what happened that fateful evening. Also he might have suffered with his mental health at some point. Again we will never know for sure. On a separate note, were you using your new posh camera on the vid?
I met quite a few Titanic survivors when I was between 8 and 20 (48 now) but my absolute favorite was Eva Hart in her later years she was a staple at Titanic events and she unofficially adopted me as her Dutch grandchild she was sweet and lovely although she had a temper if someone was wrong about a fact she would pounce and verbally destroy that person but in an unmistakenly polite victorian British way that is kind of lost today we troll today eva would not have approved. a day with Eva was like a day with Queen Elizabeth you were definitely in the presence of someone with importance although she would always downplay that. in 1989 or 90 she fed me so many cookies at an event I threw up the gifted goodies with uncontrollable violence! instead of being shocked or disgusted, she said I will have a word with the manager these cookies were obviously bad and I didn't know deary! pfff! eh, nothing wrong with the goods lady but you stuffed me full of them to the brim! yup! She was a character! and I hope you will visit her final resting place.
In that sort of chaotic situation, how can anyone know for sure that he and the other men weren't ORDERED to be in the lifeboat to take some kind of responsibility for the civilian occupants.
Your microphone is playing up probably to do with the wind Unless he was born in Lincolnshire he definitely wasn’t a yellow belly. You probably mean he had a yellow stripe down his back, he did his job as best as he could
He certainly wasn't a coward, he did his duty exactly what he was supposed to do, then went on to serve his country. A brave man in my book. Thanks Paul xxx

@@UnusualThings1 Yeah, I did Paul. Like I've said before, I like your transparency and the open minded approach that you take👍
Hi Paul.

Another great video thanks for all the hard work you put in for our entertainment .
Love your Titanic stories. Ive always been interested in the Titanic
Paul that churchyard is amazing, how wide are the graves? And beautiful, thank you for this xx

We will never know only he was there
Paul is that you walking through the Graveyard in a dark Hoodie on this Brilliant Erie Start to unusual things...
Sadly no, it’s a pre made one
Damn good i say, well used Paul..

I don’t think anyone can say anything about anyone that was on there you never know how you would react if you were there
Great video paul nice one 🎉🎉
I'd say he did his part. None of us know what we would do in that situation out of fear. I thought he resembled Benedict Cumberbatch as a young man. Paul, what were those yellow oval shaped looking things on two of the graves?. A beautiful sky for filming.
Not sure to be honest, will have a look back
Hi Paul, he couldn't have survived for two hours in the water, as the cold would have killed him.
Hi Paul i don't think this guy should be judged i think he did his duty it must have been terribly to go through all of that
I met quite a few Titanic survivors when I was between 8 and 20 (48 now) but my absolute favorite was Eva Hart in her later years she was a staple at Titanic events and she unofficially adopted me as her Dutch grandchild she was sweet and lovely although she had a temper if someone was wrong about a fact she would pounce and verbally destroy that person but in an unmistakenly polite victorian British way that is kind of lost today we troll today eva would not have approved.
a day with Eva was like a day with Queen Elizabeth you were definitely in the presence of someone with importance although she would always downplay that.
in 1989 or 90 she fed me so many cookies at an event I threw up the gifted goodies with uncontrollable violence! instead of being shocked or disgusted, she said I will have a word with the manager these cookies were obviously bad and I didn't know deary! pfff! eh, nothing wrong with the goods lady but you stuffed me full of them to the brim! yup! She was a character! and I hope you will visit her final resting place.
ps I love these wide shots it really gives a good impression of the Irish long graves and how wide they are.
In that sort of chaotic situation, how can anyone know for sure that he and the other men weren't ORDERED to be in the lifeboat to take some kind of responsibility for the civilian occupants.
Your microphone is playing up probably to do with the wind
Unless he was born in Lincolnshire he definitely wasn’t a yellow belly. You probably mean he had a yellow stripe down his back, he did his job as best as he could
💔🙏
