Hi Paul, It's recommended that a new grave settles for several months before placing a headstone. The wait can depend on the type of soil. That might explain why you couldn't locate his grave. Whoever is buying his home is very fortunate for it was within that house that he created such wonderful, thought-provoking and at times controversial work which is loved by millions.
Christmas won't be Christmas without the Snowman.☃️☃️☃️
I don't get snow at Christmas it just rains 🤣
I loved Raymond Briggs. All is work is special, but I love Ethel and Ernest. A book about his mum and dads life. It’s such a lovely tribute to his parents.
Did you watch the film? Omg it brings me to tears its such a lovely tribute to his parents your 100% right ❤
I miss Raymond briggs my favourite book was the snowman and every year at Christmas me and my family love watching the snowman movie and the snowdog one so many of my wonderful childhood memories and me and my family still love watching it every Christmas to this day 😢☃️
A lesser known man, but an amazing story of a talented writer and cartoonist who brought Xmas to thousands of children together all over the world if only we could reach out to waring factions like he brought children together Sir l thank-you RIP
I corresponded with Raymond a few years ago. He wrote me a lovely letter and included a signed book. A wonderful, generous gentleman that appreciated his fans. I’d buy his house in a heartbeat. I collect any of his books that I can find. A wonderful video Paul, thank you. 😢 ❤ I’ll try and find out where he’s buried. X
Me as well. X
Have you got the book "First up Everest", illustrations by Raymond Briggs? I collect his books too. Nice to meet you.
@@dean9235 hi, no I haven’t got that one. I’ll have to look for it. Thank you. Nice to “meet” you too. ☺️
@@carolineharry6605 it's very rare but can be found in charity shops occasionally. I sent it to Raymond and he signed it.
@@dean9235 he was so kind to us fans. I’m so glad he did that for you.
I remember father Christmas and the snowman and rest in peace Raymond Briggs 😇👼😇👼
The snowman....became a fixture in our house for years at Xmas and still does, thanks Mr Briggs and RIP. So sad to see a derelict house where a life/family once shared.
If it's not been said already he's buried at East Chiltington Parish Church, next to his partner Liz. His grave overlooks the downs. I was going to contact his agent about a documentary recently, and then he passed, I was gutted. I just found the location from contacting an animator of the snowman and I'll be visiting too
Hi Adam, has he got a head stone there that you’re aware of…
Really enjoyed hearing about the man behind the snowman story, to be honest I didnt know his name, most people probably associate the Snowman with Aled Jones singing walking in the air, which sad when there was such a talented man behind it, hopefully someone will renovate his beautiful cottage, so much potential RIP Raymond wherever you are at rest 🙏 thanks Paul for another educational video 👍
I loved the cartoons my favourite is the snowman and the snowdog
Christmas is not, Christmas
Without The snowman ⛄️ and Father 🎅 Christmas
Rest in peace Raymond Briggs 😢
The joy he gave to millions and still does will mean he will live forever, well done Paul
Christmas aint Christmas with out watching snowman, love it.
I loved it from Gemma Dickson
My favourite ones from Raymond Briggs is
The Snowman and When The Wind Blows
I remember snowman when I was little great storie
Thank you for doing this! I would think that he was accomplished enough to turn his house into a museum, but... a new family moving in it's better than the house going into disrepair.
I love his house. A bit of fresh decor and get the garden tamed it would be amazing.
Wow what a video. Graves/church/house.. we were all spoilt tonight.
Snowman is law at Christmas in our family. However my mum was a fantastic with her knitting needles and both my sister and I nagged her to work out the pattern which she did for all four of her grandchildren.
As someone just mentioned Ernest and Ethel is also a delightful story to watch.
Thanks Paul
Beautiful House
Mrs H 🇬🇧 .. Paul I've got to say thank you.. I've thought about Raymond often and hoped you'd do his life story .. My grandkids have watched all his work as have I... Raymond created so much blunt animated video's especially for us Northerners .. I appreciate this so much .. My boy is on the Spectrum and I had to play Raymonds videos/Cd's often... My boy is watching this and he says Mother I loves this... Thank you Paul once again..😉❤
Living in heatwave England this is just what i needed a bit of the Snowman to keep me cool. Thank you.
One of the saddest things I've ever watched was his Ethel & Ernest animated film.
Omg I forgot that one and yes it was sad and rather endearing. I guess I related to it as it was similar to my grandparents story.
@@gilltagg3352 it was fantastic but as I say very sad.
Yes I didn't realise raymond wrote that as well as the snowman.
It was Peter Auty who sang “Walking In The Air” in the film but it was Aled Jones who had a top 10 hit with it. I’m from the same village and his mum was a teacher at my primary school. I’d get occasional lifts to and from school with them and we fought like cat and dog 😂😂 His mum is lovely.
Instinctively you just know or (maybe you don't) that our dearest
☆🌟Paul🌟☆ picks up a little vibration/frequency every time he visits such sacred places on our behalf...so sending out some additional "Blessing's" for all the awesome of Awesomeness he does for his community here on YT...💫🙏💫

Wonderful & Beautiful day's ahead Y'all
I wrote to Raymond Briggs many times over the years and sent him books to sign. He always did sign them and sent me lovely handwritten letters and cards. He also sent me his home address so that I could send my books directly to him. What a gentleman, and so talented!
Wow what a gent
@@UnusualThings1 I love the research you put in to your content, the respect and dignity you show the person and the creative way you produce your videos! Thank you.
Beautiful property and land. Hope the garden is returned to its former glory. Nice video too Paul thanks mate👍
I'm playing catch up yet again! The house is definitely a fixer up, and definitely needs a new family to bring it back to life.
I love the snowman and also father christnas and also the "another bloomin christmas" but also loved when the wind blows was really sad though and made me cry so only ever watched it once, always refer to that film when people talk about a nuclear bomb going off lol thanks for another great video
It was so nice see his house 🏠 it will make a lovely home for some family thanks for bringing us to the hotel 🏨 LOTS of Love and to all watching Marie Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
❤❤Thank you for sharing the video. May raymond and Jean both rest in peace. Thank you raymond for bringing us the snowman. Also the snowman and the snow dog. Also the father Christmas stories to. I really loved them. Thank you so much Paul for sharing this video.
Fantastic work Paul! Raymond passed away in Brighton last year,I’m guessing he’s laid to rest in Sussex.
Eric & Ernie comic genius both of them.
Loved their shows. It proves the old ones are the best, just like the two Ronnie's and Tommy Cooper.
So you have to Ernie Wise and Ronnie Corbett, as you have been to Ronnie Barker & Tommy Cooper just to complete the set.
Enjoyed this one very much.
Always gets me that Father Christmas Mel Smith when he says " Proper Toilets For a Start" loved watching that with my daughter when she was a little one she is 35 now great memories Raymond Briggs created a lot
💜👍💜😁
Me too Paul and I'm nearly 50 now. I think he based the snowman house on it too
Wow. What a beautiful house...such a creative place for a artistic man like Raymond . Looks so quiet in that area ....didnt know his was so prolific in his work. I only knew him for the Snownan. Thanx again Paul for all the miles you do. Bringing these celebrity graves to this platform.....your a star 🌟
Brilliant Paul and yes the snowman is definitely Xmas. ❤
Oh man the Snowman Awesome
Thank you another great video R.I.P Mr. Briggs& thank you❤
Thanks for sharing the house or cottage, it's a keeper and a fixer upper lol. Cute little home 🏡 thanks again. 😊 That house should be on the historic landmark.
I love all Raymond Briggs short films & books.
The snowman ☃️ one of the best Christmas animated films ☃️❄️ thanks Paul for sharing 😊👍🏻
A lovely video thanks Paul
I’m glad the house has been sold rather than it be left to Urban Explorers or just to go to ruin
I hope a Blue Plaque will be placed onto the house in his memory
The Snowman is Christmas for me
Thank you 🙏🏻
😮I agree ,sick of urban explorer, destroy everything, everyone sees it and visits and destroys it ,they are vile...😢
@@staffordshirebullterrier5634 Most are respectful it’s the odd one or 2 that give them a bad name
It’s a beautiful little cottage I’m glad someone will breathe life into it in his memory

Nice one paul, great learning about the history of these talented people. always look forward to them.
nice to see his house l loved the snowman and father christmas it gives you that cosy and warm feelings l haven't watched for a fair few years maybe this christmas l'll stick it on.
Thank once again Paul. My grandchildren loved the snowman book and the film, so did I ! The markings on the Church door are rarely seen in England but are very common in Germany and Austria and mainly in the rural areas, where Catholicism is possibly more strong. However I have commented on this before when you did Vera Lynn’s grave, as there was one on that Church door as well. You mainly see them over house doors in Austria and they are to show that the Priest has made a blessing on the house. This can be for Christmas, birthdays etc. but are more common for marriages, new homes and births. The one on this Church has obviously been done this year (23) . The C+M+B are Latin and mean ‘Christus Mansionem Benedictat’ - translated - ‘Christ Bless this house’. So the Vicar or Priest has made an annual blessing of the Church. 🙏 However, this one is not strictly correct in the the writing and should show - 20 +C+M+B +23 for the 2023. It’s traditionally done at Epiphany - the Three Kings Day - 6th January. The Three Kings were Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar, so the initials are also believed to represent their names
Hi paul❤ I love the lovely snowman
Thank you Paul for this one. Very special to me because my 2 sons loved the father Christmas one, and my youngest son loved the Snowman. We lost Ellis age 16 .so I make a point of watching the snowman at Christmas remembering happy Christmas times. Thank you for this one. x
Thank you for this love the snowman and my grandson loves it too.
8:31 Hey Paul, this marking on the door is traditionally German it is for Three Kings day and singers mark their presence by leaving their year of singing for Three Kings day on 6/1/23. So 23+ C+M+B+23 reads Three Kings Casper, Melchior and Balthasar for year 2023. Most German Houses and Catholic Churches display these as Pre printed stickers or like you saw in chalk. I have never seen this in England before, but it’s so frequently seen here in Germany. 🇩🇪🏴
Brilliant thanks for the info 🙏
@@UnusualThings1his ashes could be scattered on South downs as his partner Liz said he loved that place the most
Hi from Gemma Dickinson
I really like his work because l too like draw portraits, of famous people in history, my fav animated story was of Raymond growing up as a child in, Ethel and Ernest, it's all his life and family life story, but it's is a very emotional journey as that goes back to war times ,it's usually on at Christmas time, I think Christmas ⛄ is very beautiful time for Raymonds animation stories , Thank you Paul I really appreciate your program so much your friend always Rod 🙏🥁🎸😎🇬🇧👑
I remember reading the snowman book when I was younger
Love the house n grave vids, looking forward to seeing this.
As a kid I love love love The Snowman it is an absolute Christmas movie, because its about a small boy who creates the snowman ⛄, then by 12:00am this snowman magically comes to life, greets the little boy and then afterwards takes him adventures then see santa clause, afterwards they seen santa they knew it was time to go back home, meanwhile the snowman stays in position as the little boy sleeps away and by morning the little boy wakes up and sadly sees the snowman melted away 😥, such a sad ending to the snowman ⛄ but it is a great movie to watch by Christmas 🎄.
Another Christmas movie that Raymond Briggs made was 'The Snowman & The Snowdog' in 2012 but unfortunately 😕 i didn't get the chance to watch it but however his timeless classic the snowman will never be forgotten always in my heart.
And when I heard that Raymond Briggs died I was in shock 😳 because I thought oh my god the creature from the snowman ⛄ sadly passed away from 9th August 2022, however it did hit me because it brought me the memory of watching the snowman from as a kid.
His memories of the snowman ⛄ and the snowdog will be in loving memories forever and ever may he sadly rest in peace 🙏📿 .
Hi Paul liked the video beautiful country side and lovely house looking forward to the the next video 👍🙂👌
Hi Paul I like watching the snowman
There is room on that Headstone for someone else! Maybe his name has not been added yet ?
Hi Paul. Thanks for sharing this story shame you didn't find his final resting place but I'm sure you will one day. We got to see his wife's. He was a very talented man his drawings were amazing. He had a very eventful life. His home must have been beautiful at one time loving the front entrance. Such a shame its gone into disrepair hopefully the new owners will restore it to its former glory. Look forward to your next video. Love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙💚
Thanks for that fantastic video Paul. 😊 Have a nice evening and take care. I really love your videos and this Unusual Things family. Greetings from Germany Melinda
Can't wait, Paul!
I remember the Snowman ☃️ cartoon it was also shown here in America as well it won some awards for it's story and song track. It on DVD during Christmas time. The snowman melts at the end, the boy is red head like a Harry lol the boy and the snowman take a fly in the air trip. It was good, a classic. I saw the Snowman back in the 80s as a kid. Thanks for sharing Paul. Raymond rest in peace 🕊️🙏😢
Liz his partner does 3 years before they have been together 40 years . I watched the snowman last night it's such a beautiful story we do owe him so much what a beautiful gift Raymond left us for future generations too . Paul can I say again I just love how I love and admire you for doing this for us thank you again .
At this point in time in Paul's TH-cam Channel, it has become, and is now, a permanent staple in his videos where whenever a church is on sight of a cemetery a door MUST BE tried!
And when it's locked, I genuinely feel bummed.
But when the rare moment the door isn't locked, well...I'm equally genuinely thrilled it isn't!
Love old churches and what they look like inside.
The history..the architecture..the peacefulness..the dead!
Love it all.
Beauty is indeed in the eye if the beholder.
Cheers Paulie.

I have place's in my home where i think, that where I wrote that song, in that room, on that chair. Thanks again Paul. Maybe start a new catch phrase "Lets Try The Door ".

I was in Sussex… that’s all I could see on the research
@@UnusualThings1 one i looked at just said buried in sussex cos he loved it there :)
Or is he buried with Liz, Found This quote below:
The Fungus the Bogeyman author also decreed that his gravestone read: 'Raymond is not a normal person' - a favourite saying of his uttered by the three year old granddaughter of his partner of 40 years in 1997.
The quote is to be credited to 'Connie Benjamin, aged 3 years 6 months, in 1997'.
He asked for this to be on the same size stone and shape as his late partner Liz's.
Damn...I'm sorry I missed the premier. Regardless great video Paul!
I'm a massive Raymond Briggs fan. I wrote to him once and got a signed Snowman card. Another great video, Paul. Thank you.
