- This is the original burial place of notorious sex offender and paedophile Jimmy Savile at the Woodlands Cemetery in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Savile was buried here in November 2011 amidst a wave of public emotion, befitting his then status as a beloved national treasure.
However, within weeks, news slowly began to emerge of Savile's horrifying double life as one of Britain's most prolific paedophiles and sex offenders. As a result, Savile's headstone bearing the terrifying message 'It was good while it lasted' was hastily removed .
It has never been publicly revealed whether Savile's remains were exhumed. Although one assumes they have. If not, then it is at this spot - ironically an idyllic and peaceful location on the outskirts of picturesque Yorkshire seaside Scarborough, a town where Savile kept a home for many years, where one of Britain's most sickening individuals rests.

My mum is nearly 70 and remembers seeing him on TV back in the 1960s. She said even in those days she found him very creepy and he always looked very old for his age.
My mum always said that. She never liked him and said he was a creep. I didn't understand her when I was a kid. I thought he was great! He had most of us fooled 😢

Based on what the funeral director said at the end of the Netflix documentary, the stone was removed and destroyed, but as he was buried in concrete, he was not exhumed. There were concerns his stone would be vandalised.
Fair enough. I just think people going to cemeteries and defacing stones, no matter who is in the grave are the lowest of the low. The defacing does not affect the dead person, it affects those who cared for them, or other people with loved ones in the cemetery. They start with one stone then the cemetery ends up a mess.
The family had the stone removed. It had cost something like £4000 in the first place.

I was one of the first to take a picture of his grave after the headstone was removed !..I even interviewed one of the gravedigger who was reluctant to tell me the exact spot ! Though he did confirm my hunch once pushed , Jimmy's plot is 3 times bigger than the others , plus the turf was a different colour to the surrounding grass.
Savile's casket is encased in a cubic ton of concrete to deter graverobbers and scarborough council from easily removing him from his place of rest !

There was a photo in the sun newspaper of the large headstone supposedly being broken up and taken away. But the chunks of stone were just pieces of plain black granite, with no gold writing or engraved photos on. I'm wondering whether the actual headstone still exists somewhere.
It will be kept by his family and re erected maybe 100 years later.
At the time his family announced they would be taking down his headstone, it was hoped that as well as removing the headstone, his whole grave and body would be exhumed but it wasn't moved due to the £20,000 cost it would have taken to do so. He's there...
I can't believe the £20k hasn't been raised and that this hasn't happened already. Even Savile's family want it done.
I'm personally not aware of any serious attempts at crowdfunding nor has any rich local person (businessman or suchlike) come forward to say they'll help out. I must say I find that all rather strange - perhaps there's other red tape or objection that I'm not privy to?

It always amazes me that beautiful prime real-estate with fabulous views fresh air, peace & quiet is a permanent home to the deceased, including the likes of Saville, lying on their backs staring at the inside of a box, six foot under, whilst the living make homes with their families & kids in blocks of flats, one on top of the other, no gardens, infrequent fresh air, noise & limited space...

'infrequent fresh air' is due to cars; people won't walk anywhere anymore so exactly same would happen if you stick houses, with their 'must-have' garages & SUVs, over a beautiful cemetery, & then there'd be NOWHERE left for anyone to escape traffic & stress of this overcrowded island - sad & short sighted indeed.

Is it possible that he has been exhumed to his mother’s grave in Leeds. Her grave has been lifted in recent times you can clearly see the ground disturbance around the resting place. Makes you wonder.

His relationship with his mother was pretty abnormal, to say the least. One of his brothers also went on to become a convicted sex offender, although nothing like as extreme as what Jimmy has been linked to. Interesting.
My guess is something was very amiss in that childhood home and I have suspicions about what that might have been. Savile never seemed very willing to talk about his childhood or his distant past, often moving the conversation on when it was put to him.

We neither know if they are true or not, after all they waited till he was dead before telling their stories. The one thing is though, they didn't give him chance to defend himself.
