    Unearthed Arcana: dnd.wizards.com/articles/unea...
    We are a Dungeons and Dragons documentary. We interview the creators of D&D and people in the DnD community. Every week we post new videos on how D&D gets made and tips and tricks on being a player and a Dungeon Master. This show is made possible by the amazing Dungeons & Dragons community and by our subscribers on Patreon.
    Wander into the magical realm of the Feywild in this month’s Unearthed Arcana! With the playtest options in the PDF below, your D&D character can be a member of one of these new D&D races: fairy, hobgoblin of the Feywild, owlfolk, or rabbitfolk.
    We’ll release a playtest survey on this website soon. When we do, please let us know what you think of these options. Your feedback can help shape future D&D books!
    This Is Playtest Content
    The material in Unearthed Arcana is presented for playtesting and to spark your imagination. These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your D&D campaign but not refined by final game development. They are not officially part of the game. For these reasons, material in this column is not legal in D&D Adventurers League events.

    Couple interesting notes about the Fairy:
    - Flight works with heavy armor (it's magical and doesn't require wings)
    - Flight works in wild shape (same reason)
    - Fey Passage has no size limitations, so you could fit through 1-inch spaces while huge size (moon druid or rune knight fighter)

    • @NotYourAverageNothing
      @NotYourAverageNothing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I’ve heard claims that the Owlfolk’s flight works in Wild Shape too because it’s technically not a numerical speed, preventing it from being “overwritten” by whatever you change into. Plus it’s a racial feature.
      Not sure I agree with it though, because the relevant rule in Wild Shape includes, “if the new form is physically capable of doing so.”

    • @sillvvasensei
      @sillvvasensei 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@NotYourAverageNothing Owlfolk flight relies on the wings though, and is not magical in nature. Therefore, being physical in nature, you lose the ability if you lose the wings. That's my understanding.
      "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is PHYSICALLY capable of doing so."

      My game shop drop them into 3.5e Star Wars rpg as force users so we can have a small being that can run pass the sound barrier.

    I really want fairies to be tiny sized, it would create an interesting exception and would make sense. -But I could see it as immersion breaking when a tiny creature can deal as much damage with its weapons as a quasi-large one -especially with the newfound aversion to stat penalties.
    Maybe a built in weapon attack debuff vs bigger creatures, like not adding their ability modifier to the damage rolls of weapon attacks and unarmed strikes to creatures 2 sizes or more larger than them? -then maybe compensate with fey ancestry or magic save advantage.

    • @jimmybob7873
      @jimmybob7873 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My solution would be to simply halve the tiny-sized weapon's damage dice before adding the modifiers. For example, if a Tiny creature hits with a tiny-sized mace and then rolls a 6 on the d6, the damage roll is halved to 3 before adding the creature's strength modifier to the total.
      Also, I'd rule that Tiny creatures can't effectively wield Heavy and Reach weapons (though they could still be used as improvised weapons in a pinch), as well as imposing disadvantage on attack rolls made with normal-sized weapons that aren't Light.

    • @elliotbryant3459
      @elliotbryant3459 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmybob7873 ya, most reach weapons are at disadvantage for small or smaller creatures due to the heavy property so that makes sense. -but a tiny fairy riding a fire beetle wielding a normal reach lance [which lacks the heavy property] seemed absurd haha. -I feel wielding a reach whip might be fine though. -This is under the notion that they are using either non-magical weapons sized for their race and that magical items adjust to the wielders size.
      -Alternatively, there is always faeries traditional fear of/aversion to iron -which could be consolidated as metal objects [like how druids refuse to wear metal armor]. give them disadvantage to everything while wearing/wielding metal, or a charisma or constitution save to avoid the poisoned condition? Could throw them a bone and give them the shillelagh cantrip to compensate. -this is looking more extreme than a mere stat penalties though, lol.

    When I've first seen the fairy, them being small, being able to hover, and being able to squeeze through 1-inch spaces despite their size, I immediately thought about playing them as small hovering fey slimes instead of the traditional pixie- or sprite-like humanoid with wings. I've seen people saying that not making Fairy Tiny is a flavor fail, but in my opinion, it does create a uniquely D&D 5e version of the concept far separate from the sprite and the pixie found in the moster manual (which you can play as anyway using the sidekick rules in Tasha's cauldron). Flying glittering fairy slimes for the win, even if it is slightly terrifying! :D

    They play up the rabbit folk with luck, but nothing played up with owlfolk within wisdom. That's a miss I didn't think D&D would do this.

    I feel like D&D is very slowly evolving into a Gamma World vibe, except crystals, magic, and black powder are used instead of technology and lasers.

    I am a little over [insert animal]-folk. I am disappointed they have two of those and only one other race. The only interesting thing to me is making owlfolk the predators on the nearby rabbitfolk, but I would have done that with giant owls anyway.

    So, if the fairy is a small creature and it can look like anything as long as it’s small… could It look like a cat? 😳

    If you are a fairy dhampir - what creature type(s) are you? Pixies in UA are simply Fey. Dhampirs in their UA are humanoid and undead.
    Now, assuming you start as pixie and get dhampired (either during game or in your backstory) so you retain the fay creature type and become triple type - Fey/humanoid/undead? Or does dhampir take over and you only become the two it has listed?

    Hope this is singes of a futer Feywild book, is so litel Loré about Fey and the Feywild, there is like noting in 5e about Archfey or the Feywild so let us hope That we get some Fey Love in the futer.
    Also If Hobgoblins trace their origin to the Feywild then i Have some questions like, 1:dos it exist Archfey who are this Fey Hobgoblins. 2:Do this original Fey Hobgoblin inbody a emotion like most 5e Fey do, 3:is this Hobgoblin strongly conected to some form of force of Nature then?

    5:23 Pretty sure this is incorrect. If you change races, you [likely] no longer meet the prerequisite for the feat, and therefore cannot benefit from it. Though you do technically still *have* the feat, if that’s what you meant.

      Centaurs have a speed of 40 and require 4 extra feet of movement to climb. This means they can only climb 8 feet per turn, also breaking 5 ft increments. Does this bother you as well?
