    Unearthed Arcana: Draconic Options dnd.wizards.com/articles/unea...
Harness the power of dragons in this installment of Unearthed Arcana! This playtest document presents race, feat, and spell options related to dragons in Dungeons & Dragons. First is a trio of draconic race options presented as an alternative to the dragonborn race in the Player’s Handbook, as well as a fresh look at the kobold race. Then comes a handful of feat options that reflect a connection to draconic power. Finally, an assortment of spells-many of them bearing the names of famous or infamous dragons-offer a variety of approaches to manifesting dragon magic.
We’ll release a playtest survey on this website soon. When we do, please let us know what you think of these options. Your feedback can help shape future D&D books!
    This Is Playtest Content
The material in Unearthed Arcana is presented for playtesting and to spark your imagination. These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your D&D campaign but not refined by final game development. They are not officially part of the game. My thought on this UA
    Chromatic Dragonborn
Creature Type: Please include Dragon and Humanoid as creature types.
    Size: Makes sense.
    Speed: Makes sense.
    Chromatic Ancestry: Makes sense.
    Breath Weapon: LOVE IT! Perfect!
    Draconic Resistance: Makes sense.
Chromatic Warding: LOVE IT! I wouldn’t mind it being an action or reaction option. That way if you get fireballed or lightning bolted, or whatever you can have the awesome moment of, “That tickled.”
Summary: I’d like to see Darkvision too. No pun intended. I wouldn’t mind seeing the breath weapons follow the shape of the dragon’s, like Dragonborn do currently. So Black Chromatic Dragonborn would still have a 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) but a Green Chromatic Dragonborn 15 ft. cone (Con. save), instead of all being a line and a Dex save. Though I do love the breath weapon in this UA as is.
    Metallic Dragonborn
Creature Type: Please include Dragon and Humanoid as creature types.
    Size: Makes sense.
    Speed: Makes sense.
    Metallic Ancestry: Makes sense.
    Breath Weapon: LOVE IT! Perfect!
    Draconic Resistance: Makes sense.
Metallic Breath Weapon: LOVE IT! Perfect!
Summary: I’d like to see Darkvision too. No pun intended. I wouldn’t mind seeing the breath weapons follow the shape of the dragon’s, like Dragonborn do currently. Though I do love the breath weapon in this UA as is.
    Gem Dragonborn
Creature Type: Please include Dragon and Humanoid as creature types.
    Size: Makes sense.
    Speed: Makes sense.

    Breath Weapon: LOVE IT! Perfect!

    Psionic Mind: LOVE IT!
    Gem Flight: LOVE IT!

While the chromatic dragonborn immunity ability is quite situational, it can lead to some cool spell shenanigans. Namely allowing you to be caught in your own, or an allie’s, area of effect without worry. So a wizard caught up in melee might be able to fireball themselves, or such a wizard does need to worry about fireballing their red dragonborn ally. Not incredibly powerful but very cool I think

Such a shame this is coming so late after the launch of D&D 5E as I have always loved the flavor of Dragonborn, but in play realized their breath weapon was little more than that: flavor. This all reads like a subclass and is way over tuned for a race option. The upper level abilities (damage immunity, fly speed, second breath weapon) should all get cut and turned into racial feats like in Xanithar’s

  • @carlsmagicbicep9736
    @carlsmagicbicep9736 3 ปีที่แล้ว

These changes are very power creepy. Such is everything that has come out this year. I dislike the flight speed being a bonus action. Aasimar have to do so with an action (granted they get extra damage with that). The two breath weapons for the metallics feels a little lazy and the incapacitated feels too combat oriented. The chromatic looks awesome however I wouldn't change a single thing there and the d6's to d8's is a brilliant change.
