You've been asking for longer videos, so we're debuting this new series! What do you think? Give us a like and let us know in the comments what topics you'd like us to discuss!
This is great! Please make more of this series. Josh and Stephanie are naturals in front of the camera! It would be great if you guys could delve deeper into stationery culture and talk about not only products, but also make it personal and really share your passion and knowledge of stationery. You guys started to do that in this first episode, so I'm really looking forward to seeing more!
i worked closely with an occupational therapist for children for years and years and it's incredibly hard to "correct" your pencil grip past the age of 5 essentially
I actually managed to correct my pencil grip when I was a freshman in uni. It only took a few months. I have calluses on my middle finger before I correct my pencil grip.
I’m doing it now - I had to learn how to write with my left hand after getting RSI in my right. Now I’m learning to hold my pen like a brush in either hand after 40 years of gripping. It’s hard, but I need to do it if I want to keep drawing!
Ngl, It's those collaborations the Japanese stationary companies do with popular anime that actually got me back into buying Japanese stationary. I know. It's such a simple trick. But I just cannot resist when they slap my favorite character on a uni style fit. I have to get it. And then I went down the rabbit hole after discovering that you could customize & refill those things and use them till the end of the world That's genius
I agree with her, I love the series too! I am also new to stationery and Jetpens videos and they are amazing. You guys are just the best when it comes to stationery
I love the Asian paper and calligraphy culture. And JetPens has such an awesome staff and videos that makes picking out stationary so easy! Love you guys.
I’m a few decades older than both of you guys and I have a grip like Stephanie’s. I can write with a tripod grip but it doesn’t feel natural. And I change my S letters between cursive and block all the time, sometimes within the same word! I’ve always loved stationery and it’s great to see the younger generation keeping the art of writing alive and well in this technological age.
Stephanie has top-tier taste in Pokemon starters, Bulbasaur forever! Though Sobble being startled and immediately crying during the introduction cutscene ripped the heart out of my chest. Though my husband started with Colosseum so he will always answer Espeon.
I never normally listen to podcasts but this is fantastic! As a stationary fanatic, this podcast is so good and the presenters are so much fun and have great chemistry. Their enthusiasm for stationary is clear and infectious! Can't wait to see more episodes!
This is sooo hilarious! YES, Stationery nerds will watch our other favorite stationery nerds talk about their stationery . . . .and Pokemon! Hi-lar-i-ous!
I actually did switch my grip, which is usually the same as Josh, due to my fountain pens to get a better writing angle. So for any other pen I use my old grip but fountain pens I use a standard grip.
Yes yes I love that a jetpens podcast exiiiiiists My favorite Pokémon starters tend to be fire types, even when it’s like not I have a thing for fire types in general. But when it comes to starters, yeah. The only exceptions so far have been piplup and rowlet/sobble haha Josh’s handwriting tho??? That practice page looks like so nice
I was homeschooled, and I was DEFINITELY taught to use a certain grip when I write. (The lateral tripod grip, FWIW, which I still use. I get hand cramps and/or calluses sometimes, but I can write insanely fast when I’m writing in cursive-which was another homeschool staple, lol.) I’m sure my sister was taught that way too, but she rebelled and just grips in her own way now. 😅 My favorite Pokemon starters are Bulbasaur and Totodile! I tend to favor grass or water starters-with the exception of Tepig, because he’s just stupidly cute. 😆
I have a similar grip to Stephanie. A quad but the pen rests on my ring finger and the index and middle hold it down. I get hand cramps all the time and have a callus above my nail on my ring finger. Not the most ergonomic. Fascinating to hear how other people hold pens. Also this vid was so fun! We need more!
I learned the dynamic tripod grip in school and somewhere in my adulthood life, my grip changed to a dynamic quadrupod. I can still write in both styles but my hand cramps more with the quadrupod so I'm working my way back to a tripod grip. My niece is 5 and she's holding her pencil from a full grasp to a "high index" index and we noticed she's tired from writing this way, so we're trying to help her learn the tripod grip.
Oh you two are awesome working together! I mean, stationery is so much more fun with you two! Love the series already! My go to pen is the Pentel Energel in various colours. Thanks for the wholesome laughs😄
I have used the blue Pikachu Frixion multipen for so much schoolwork, and I recently picked up the yellow Sepa case! I love them so much. As a fan since the red and blue games came out I am a sucker for anything Pokémon, haha.
You guys are a Hoot! I've always enjoyed Stephanie's and Josh's videos but together? There is a comic synergy that keeps your attention. So, let there be an Ep. 02, 03, 04, etc.! I was laughing out loud (a rarity for me) at the outtakes and their passion for stationery. Was it too long? Not long enough if you ask me as I was wanting more.
I went to occupational and physio therapy when I was little for grip, low upper body muscle tone and fine motor control issues and it was extremely helpful. My handwriting will never be neat but at least I can write! I have a friend from college who had the exact same issue as me when she was a kid and it turns out that neither of us crawled as babies. We’d scoot around on our bums. So wondering if it’s just a coincidence or if there’s something there… but despite all our writing struggles, we both ended up being artists.
I didn't know how much I needed this video until after I finished it a second time. Thank you, Jetpens. This was absolutely wonderful. Keep them coming.
I think your grip need depends on how you are using the pen... if you are a printer I think the non received grips work fine... if you are writing stroke by stroke, any grip will do... but if you are just trying to produce regular cursive the tripod grip allows for gliding. Thanks for these info videos!
This series has so much potential!! How about doing writing samples side by side, or screen by screen in this case, and compare the same ink in different fountain pens. Or give each of you $50 and see what assortment of supplies you would compile for the other person. You are each such fun personalities, and together you are a blast!!! 💛💛💛
Josh and Stephanie, as a teacher it pains me to see your grips! I’m very sorry that they weren’t corrected when you were young enough to make a difference. I’m glad that you’re fellow stationery geeks and I enjoy your videos! Keep them coming.
Omg! I was just thinking the other day that I wish there was a stationary podcast I could watch! I loved it! Honestly the show and tell and bloopers are the best part because you get to hear you guys being yourselves and learning what you like! I wish we could just leave the bloopers in the normal part of the video cause they're sooo fun! The b roll was super helpful too! Would love a 30-60min version too. You guys are awesome keep it up!
Re: resin stink/stank/stunk, I inherited a wonderful assortment of resin pens from my father, mostly from 50s and 60s, and THEY DON'T HAVE ANY ODOR, so I think Noodler's FPs are just unique in this regard, and nothing I've tried has EVER eliminated that feature, not sun, chemicals, soaps, or heat.
Wish I could hit the “Like” button multiple times!!! U guys make me feel like I’m missing out in the world of Pokémon. Ur energy, excitement (for stationery) & Asian assortment (both product & ppl) is what I love abt JetPens!
I love this! I may or may not have joined in when y’all sang the pokemon theme song. It can’t be proven 😂 I was taught to do a tripod grip when I was a kid in the USA but it hurt my finger so much I learned to do it only when my teacher was looking. Cut to 25 years later and I find out I have hyper mobile joints and it was literally bending my finger joints backwards. I love my lateral quad grip! It’s a bit different from yours but it keeps the pressure off of my joints and I’ve never wanted to try to change it
Josh, I am going to date myself and confess that we had grip exercises in kindergarten (in the US) and then again in third grade when they started teaching us cursive. And now I feel like a fossil. 🦕
Stationary talk is cool :) I also like the idea of Stationary Showcase cause it's more of a highlight of the stationary products. I can always take a look at more stationary products :D perhaps notebooks would be a good tip or like a bundle setting. Like what is your favorite office stationary to keep your work flow fun and productive. I'm a huge fan of folio cases that I can store things like my notebook and pens. I keep a few different pens on me as well as my ink and things like that :D I'm a huge fan of those things and bags, especially sling bags, are my weakness since I'm a minimalist on the go all the time.
I really liked this video format and the information/commentary provided. It worked well! Looking forward to the next one. I would love to see stamps covered!
Because hitting the Like button a second time would undo it, I had to hit it three times to extra like for the outtakes. Stephanie and Josh are a great team, and Josh has made me interested in the Kokuyo Sooofa 4 mm graph paper for writing practice (but then there's the Hobonichi 3.7 mm...) and Mark+ highlighters. I didn't know Mildliners could have a bleedthrough problem.
Ah yes. I have found my people: stationery, Pokemon, and bursting into song. Never seen the 3 nib flex before. That was really cool and I'm sure you can get very thick down strokes with it. I nabbed the blue Pikachu washi tape, but it stopped being available. Pokemon items are hard to get, even outside Japan, so I'm thankful Jetpens has whatever Poke-merch they can get
I've literally just decided to change my grip to tripod this semester in uni, and after a few days of suffering I was just fine My handwriting from the first five days is the worst, but now after 3 months it's basically normal, my hand cramps got A LOT BETTER SERIOUSLY i had weird grip and it was also really low, my hand used to hurt after one page, now I barely put any pressure on the writing instrument, so at 22, I would say the change was pretty smooth
I'm pretty sure that when I was in primary school, we were taught how to hold our pencils and pens (which were provided by the school board). We were taught printing first with pencils, and then in grade 3 we switched to pens and were taught how to write (cursive). From then on we were expected to do all of our work in what you call cursive in ink (except for math). Our pens were shaped more like a speedball pen, but were ballpoints, and had grooves in the narrowing (grip section). In high school, we started to have to bring our own pens, so my little rebelliousness resulted in me doing my work in green ink. This was all prior to modern computers. When my son started school, he only got a very brief introduction to printing, and they didn't teach writing at all! The result is disappointing. *sigh*
When I was a kid, which is many moons ago, we were taught grips in school in first grade. However, being a product of head start, I had already developed my grip there. They tried to force me to change it in first grade, it just could not happen. Plus I got upset every time they tried to change it. Just so you know I have the same grip as Stephanie. I have never broke a pencil though. I do shoot lead from my mechanical pencils, a former co-worker always got upset saying I waste lead by breaking it. As for Pokémon, I play only Nintendo switch games. I love Evee.
I'm a little older than Josh, and my teacher's DID try to do something about my grip in second grade, but even then my grip was already pretty well formed - it looks a lot like Stephanie's, but I get a callus on my ring finger.
You can't ask me to choose a starter! Then I'll have to spend several hours in agony weighing the pros and cons of each one's absolute cuteness! (The order in which I choose them, though: Squirtle, (Pikachu), Chikorita, Torchic, Turtwig, Oshawott, Fennekin, Litten, Sobble, Rowlet)
I have a grip that's like...a mixture of Stephanie and Josh's grip. My index, middle, and ring fingers are like Josh, but my thumb wraps around like Stephanie. 😂
This was such a joy to watch! What are the white drawer organizers on Steph's side? It caught my eye and now I feel a need of it on my desk haha. Thanks ahead!
Chicorita is my favorite starter. My grip is like duopod resting on the middle finger. I can't really call it a variation of tripode. But I really question what is one to do with their pinky finger while writing?!
Thank you for talking about grip! In my workshops, I found that most adults stopped being creative with their pens and pencils because of grip. When they try to imitate the grip shown in manuals or tutorials, they can't get it right or they find it painful. What I usually say is just think about how you wipe your @ss. Turns out few of us were ever shown a right or wrong way of doing it, yet we all (hopefully) manage to get the job done. Same goes for your pen grip: do what's comfortable for you and gets the results you desire. 😁✍️🍑
Omg you guys are so cute and this episode was so fun! Definitely would love to see more of the series! Also off-topic for this vid, but I could NOT be more excited for the new Pilot Kakuno colours. My mom and I have ordered 3 already 😆
Love the title for this video -great harmonies - too many Pokemon to choose -how about Charmander or Charizard? Side note , back in the day, there were little small rubber pieces to slide on the pencil to help with your child's grip so you don't get the writers callus, looking forward to the next video - keep them coming !!!! 📗📘📙 🖋🖊🖌✒✏🤣🤣🤣
What kinds of ink have done this, if you don't mind my asking? Did they leave behind any residue? How did they perform otherwise? Did you try them on other pens? Sorry for all these questions! I've been reading reviews of the Noodler's pens and haven't seen this problem anywhere else.
I am learning tripod grip for fountain pens since the lamy safari has a tripod. And I’ve been working on my hand writing and using less pressure on the grip so my hand hurts less.
I feel like this is a good place to ask this. In the Detective Pikachu movie, did anyone else get really bugged by the fact that none of the wild Bulbasaur were saying "Bulba-saur"?!?!
You've been asking for longer videos, so we're debuting this new series! What do you think? Give us a like and let us know in the comments what topics you'd like us to discuss!
Just talk about anything and loosely link it to stationary, you two are awesome!
Me and Stephanie have the same grip
i worked closely with an occupational therapist for children for years and years and it's incredibly hard to "correct" your pencil grip past the age of 5 essentially
Woah I didn't know that... But if u can write fine with a different grip then there wouldn't be a need to change it right
Interesting… they kept trying to get me to use pencil grips. I just took it off and figured out how to hold the pen/pencil myself back in 2nd grade.
ngl i did a different pencil grip when i was in 2nd grade bc of a crush
I actually managed to correct my pencil grip when I was a freshman in uni. It only took a few months. I have calluses on my middle finger before I correct my pencil grip.
I’m doing it now - I had to learn how to write with my left hand after getting RSI in my right. Now I’m learning to hold my pen like a brush in either hand after 40 years of gripping. It’s hard, but I need to do it if I want to keep drawing!
Josh and Stephanie singing the Pokemon theme is THE best selling point 🙌
Yeah.
When do they sing it?
Ngl, It's those collaborations the Japanese stationary companies do with popular anime that actually got me back into buying Japanese stationary.
I know. It's such a simple trick. But I just cannot resist when they slap my favorite character on a uni style fit. I have to get it. And then I went down the rabbit hole after discovering that you could customize & refill those things and use them till the end of the world
That's genius
That’s how I ended up with the animal crossing and Inuyasha Hobonichi lol
Same, same.
While I don't care for anything Pokemon related, I loved the energy between Steph and Josh. This was a lot of fun to watch.
I love this series. I'm new to the stationery game and the Jetpens videos have proven invaluable. The dialogue between Josh and Stephanie was perfect.
I agree with her, I love the series too! I am also new to stationery and Jetpens videos and they are amazing. You guys are just the best when it comes to stationery
Thank you so much for always including captioning on the JetPens videos, they make them even more enjoyable to watch
I love the Asian paper and calligraphy culture. And JetPens has such an awesome staff and videos that makes picking out stationary so easy! Love you guys.

I’m old. I was taught the tripod grip in school. And I know nothing about Pokémon.
This is sooo hilarious! YES, Stationery nerds will watch our other favorite stationery nerds talk about their stationery . . . .and Pokemon! Hi-lar-i-ous!
These stationery look actually cool, but that Nessa metalic box caught my eye😭✨

Can't wait for more, this was super fun to watch, I laughed so hard at the Pokemon impersonations (I used to do it too!!!)

More of this podcast please? I love just listening to you guys talk about grips and stickers I never heard of before💜
We're coming out with a new episode next week!
I have used the blue Pikachu Frixion multipen for so much schoolwork, and I recently picked up the yellow Sepa case! I love them so much. As a fan since the red and blue games came out I am a sucker for anything Pokémon, haha.
Same! I even still have my “I Choose You, Pikachu!” from the 90s.
You guys are a Hoot! I've always enjoyed Stephanie's and Josh's videos but together? There is a comic synergy that keeps your attention. So, let there be an Ep. 02, 03, 04, etc.! I never knew why people didn’t like the Pilot Capless/Vanishing point clip, until i saw y’all’s grips.
I went to occupational and physio therapy when I was little for grip, low upper body muscle tone and fine motor control issues and it was extremely helpful. I like love her personality lol she’s so cool, I love pens (all stationery really) and anyone else who loves them. What a cool job this must be?!?
Oh my god my grip is EXACTLY the same as Stephanie's!! I've never actually seen anyone else hold pens like I do!!

Josh AND Stephanie?!!! *fastest like ever*

Josh! The sooofa paper and fountain pen combo is on point. Most underrated combo ever I absolutely love it😍
I love this! I may or may not have joined in when y’all sang the pokemon theme song. It can’t be proven 😂
I was taught to do a tripod grip when I was a kid in the USA but it hurt my finger so much I learned to do it only when my teacher was looking. I can’t wait to order from jet pens, it just feels like they take super good care of thier stationary.
Yess the Pokémon theme song let’s goo!!!! Gotta catch ‘em all!
YESSSSSS great format!
I was taught to write with a lateral crossover tripod grip in the US.
This was fun. I can't wait to see the next one.
They mimic pokemons so cutely
Love it, please do more. I'm always here for the special chaos that is Stephanie and Josh.
You have inspired me to start a handwriting practice journal, thank you!!
haha loved this video! can't wait for more in this series!
Stephanie’s videos are always my favorite !
this was such a fun video. I hope it becomes a series!
Exactly what I needed🥺Mew looking real cute in the back :)
Loved this you guys are silly! Great video keep them coming. 😀
Definitely up for random stationery talk and Pokemon impressions! :D
So muchnfun watching you geek out together!
Also I really love imitating Krabby from the Anime, it just sounds like a messed up "cookie cookie!"
Even I enjoy using the Mark+ highlighters. I have the dual tone version, with both tips as highlighters. They are great for color coding.
My only wish for JetPens since you started this Podcast, is to convince someone to open up an affiliate shop in the EU!
Love love love this ❤️❤️
Love the outtakes
I love the Pokémon stickers! And I’m very tempted by the pens 😩
Amazing video! made my day 🥰✨🙏
Resin smells worse while you're turning it to form a pen. Even though it smells bad it's my favorite medium to create pens out of.
I loved this style of video! I love learning more about the JetPens team!
Ah yes. I have found my people: stationery, Pokemon, and bursting into song.
Never seen the 3 nib flex before. That was really cool and I'm sure you can get very thick down strokes with it.
I nabbed the blue Pikachu washi tape, but it stopped being available. Pokemon items are hard to get, even outside Japan, so I'm thankful Jetpens has whatever Poke-merch they can get
Turtwig is my favorite starter! Also, a good way to reset grip could be the Lamy Safari
I've literally just decided to change my grip to tripod this semester in uni, and after a few days of suffering I was just fine
My handwriting from the first five days is the worst, but now after 3 months it's basically normal, my hand cramps got A LOT BETTER SERIOUSLY
i had weird grip and it was also really low, my hand used to hurt after one page, now I barely put any pressure on the writing instrument, so at 22, I would say the change was pretty smooth

this is the quality content about quality stationary that I subscribe for
LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!! Keep this going please😍😍😍

Yay! Josh is back! I’ve missed him!
@jetpens any chance we can get some moomin japanese stationary?
Yaaaassssss I love this concept! Keep this series alive!!!!
I have a grip that's like...a mixture of Stephanie and Josh's grip. My index, middle, and ring fingers are like Josh, but my thumb wraps around like Stephanie. 😂

Omg you guys are so cute and this episode was so fun! Definitely would love to see more of the series! Also off-topic for this vid, but I could NOT be more excited for the new Pilot Kakuno colours. My mom and I have ordered 3 already 😆
We hope you enjoy your new Kakunos! They are adorable 🥰
@@JetPens Thank you!
@@amandak.4246 all three of my kids had different grips but all used those pieces
WHAT? This is awesome! Keep it up!
Stephanie you are my grip twin. Same grip same problems. Your hand writing is way better than mine though
It's true the Ahab really does smell. Also, in a week, or less, any ink i put in it disappears. Like, evaporates.
What kinds of ink have done this, if you don't mind my asking? Did they leave behind any residue? How did they perform otherwise? Did you try them on other pens? Sorry for all these questions! I've been reading reviews of the Noodler's pens and haven't seen this problem anywhere else.
Yes to more episodes of this series please! * heart eyes emoji! *
I am learning tripod grip for fountain pens since the lamy safari has a tripod. And I’ve been working on my hand writing and using less pressure on the grip so my hand hurts less.
I feel like this is a good place to ask this.
In the Detective Pikachu movie, did anyone else get really bugged by the fact that none of the wild Bulbasaur were saying "Bulba-saur"?!?!
you guys are great- i love this series!!
Bulbasaur. I bought those stickers a couple months back, I have yet to use them.
I’ve been wondering what the best inks/brands are for fountain pen inks?
My question: I would love to know if the Kokuyo Mark+ Two Way Marker Pen smudges gel pen or not? 😀
I love JetPens and see you have a sticker on your laptops. Why don't you include them in our orders???
We sell the stickers on our site here! www.jetpens.com/JetPens-Stickers/ct/5286
I didn't know grips had names. I enjoyed the whole video, especially the bit of fun at the end.
