the previous Tay Bridge was destroyed in a storm, which is what you saw sticking out of the water, having travelled this line and lived just beside the track on the Dundee side this looks pretty spot on!
Great video as usual, Paul. I don't mind the complicated trains every now and then, but sometimes they frustrate me. This looks like a nice route to drive. I look forward to part 2.
Yes the old Tay bridge did collapse in a gale in the late 1800's. It wasn't very old and the bridge collapsed whilst a train was on the highest part. The disaster killed everyone on the train.
at 9.02 you were talking about those things coming out the water beside the bridge they are the remains of the old brige that fell down in 1879 while a train was crossing 79 people died
+HamishPlays I'm surprised he didn't know about the Tay rail disaster, probably due to how long ago it was but it made headlines throughout the empire at the time because it was the worst storm Britain had ever seen and 'popular' socialist Karl Marx was supposed to be on the following train after doing a lecture in Dundee but he was convinced to stay the night here due to the storm. If he had been on that train the entire path of the 20th century might have been radically different and we'd be living on Mars by now or living underground hiding from 21st century Nazis.
The bridge just after exiting Marmalade City is the Tay Bridge which was famously destroyed in a fierce storm in 1879 whilst a train was crossing with great loss of life. As you cross it now you can see the remains of the old foundations on your left.
I've been on that journey from Edinburgh but I went up further towards Aberdeen, plus I was on an East Coast train, not a Voyager. This is a very accurate simulation of it.
Squirrel! You convinced me to go and buy TS2014 on Steam. I stumbled across your channel yesterday and spent nearly 2 hours flipping through your library. Great stuff man. I'm an iRacing and flight sim guy, and I've always had an interest in the train sims but never knew much about them. After watching a few of yours, I just bought it on the Steam sale... now I have to learn how to do it! :) thanks
The beautiful Tay bridge, it's amazing to go over, and watch the mighty river Tay, fighting the north sea tides. The piers are a sombre reminder of the dangers of cocky under-engineering, in such an extreme environment, serving as a tombstone to the disaster there. This is the regular stomping ground of the hst and sprinters, and previously the deltics and A4s. Franchises have struggled to maintain the charm and service in recent years, but there's a renewed effort with the completion of the line improvement schemes in the central belt.
I get a lot of stick playing games like this, ETS, and TS from my friends they say it's 'boring' but to me it's interesting as you learn an awful lot from them! :)
that's the tay bridge, and they're the struts from the old Bridge, which collapsed in a storm taking a steam train with it, and the lives of everyone on bored
The bridge that you crossed was the Tay Bridge, and the anchorages that you commented on are all that remains of the original Tay Bridge, that collapsed during a violent storm in December 1879. Tragically, a train was crossing at the time that the bridge collapsed, killing all on board (estimated 75 dead). You may know of it as the Tay Bridge disaster.
Surprisingly realistic. It's almost the same as real life, with the quarry and bus depot just off the Tay Bridge, which are there in real life. And the buses even have the correct livery!
I actually work on these trains very often, the high pitched beep is the DSD not the AWS and where the tilt iso button is there is now GSMR also the front exterior display can be set on tms, anything you want to know about this train just ask :)
Loving this wee run down from Dundee as i used to work at Inverkeithing station and looking forward to seeing how its mapped as the ones so far in this video are pretty accurate. The bridge peices in the river are from the original Tay bridge. As for town names, Leuchars is pronounced 'lookers', Cupar is 'cooper'.
As regarding The Tay Bridge and the other struts that you mention in the video, that is the remains of the old bridge that collapsed in 1879 resulting in many lives being lost as a train was crossing it.
And you can make different songs while alternating the bell and horn buttons... Thinking you should play *this old man* when passing through a station.. XD
Some tourist information for those watching this in the future and thinking of paying this part of the world a visit! The google maps part before Paul commences game play shows 2 sections of water with land in the middle. To the north, the estuary of the river Tay, known in Scots as the firth ie the firth of Tay. Dundee - Where game play begins is famous for Jute, which is a material used during the 1900s as a base for all sorts of things including carpeting. Today it has great entertainment venues and recently opened a V+A Museum just outside Dundee Station. The main body of land in the middle is the Kingdom of Fife, called so as a city to the south, Dunfermline, was the ancient capital of Scotland between 1200 and 1400. Luechars is the closest train station to St Andrews, famous for Golf. Cupar is a beautiful town worth a day trip in anyones book. Kirkcaldy was one time the world leader in Linoleum manufacturing and pretty much any cushion floor with a detailed, stylish design during the 18th and 19th century was probably a Robert Nairn of kirkcaldy design. The water to the south is the river Forth, so we see the firth of Forth, home of the world famous Forth Bridge which we see paul go over in part 3. If you ever find yourself in Edinburgh, take a couple of days to Visit Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy (if only to transfer to a bus along the coast to places like Anstruther), St Andrews and Dundee!
The graphics of the Tay bridge departing Dundee as you cross it are spot on the old bridge structures on the left are where the old bridge fell down think there was people killed too they had to rebuild it I've been on this route so thought I'd give this a look wow
at your first stop on this scenario did you notice the name of the coach standing outside the station well if you didn't you should look and you would laugh as it says just trains on the back of it talk about free advertising lmao
Green - Clear, you may proceed normally. Double yellow - Preliminary caution, the next signal is displaying a single yellow aspect. Single yellow - Caution, be prepared to stop at the next signal. Red - Danger/Stop
Squirrel, the bridge stands you were wondering about are the previous ones from the other bridge which collapsed in a storm many years ago and they built the current bridge next to it. Sorry if you already knew, just saying incase you didnt! :)
Just for future reference, Leuchars is pronounced "lookers", Cupar "Coopar" and Kirkcaldy is just without the "l" (Possibly "Kirkoddy" depending your own inflections.)
There are controls at the driver's feet. I think it's Driver Reminder Appliance (could be wrong on the name) which is a pedal they have to press every 15 seconds to tell the train he's alive and well.
You should get a RailDriver (that is the name) and it's an amazing piece of machinery, it is modeled after a Dash-9 locomotive, which is an American locomotive used for hauling freight. Make sure you contact them and tell them that you are using it for TS14
33:15 the Edinburgh to Euston train is a class 390 Pendolino if you say it's that long (and they skip certain carriage letters). Or it's 2 voyagers joined together. 221s are 5 carriages long and all 5 of them carry passengers..
Watching the video Dundee to Edinburgh the stumps that are popping out the waster on the first bridge crossing is where a previous bridge once stood as the original bridge fell in to the river
I think the things at the side of the tay bridge when you are coming out of Dundee are from when tay bridge that collapsed in 1879 due to very stormy weather when a train was on it killing about 70 people. Correct me if I am wrong.
It's because it's a dynamic engine brake, but if you need to slow down quickly you need to press the emergency brake button, he should of pressed the emergency brake button when he was coming up to the first station.
It is a very realistic train, it requires you to turn on the battery, do numerous alarm checks and wait 20 minutes for brake pressure to rise. If you want a 220/221 you can just get in and drive, get the Voyager standard from Just Trains. If you want the intermediate version for the hardcore sim player, get the Voyager Advanced from Just Trains.
hi squirrel I took your advise and did the vt new kid on the block but found during the instruction the gaps were to long between each instruction however I completed the scenario but found the return leg to be completed quicker than the outward bound leg
those stumps are from the old tay bridge. On the 28th December 1879 it collapsed killing "i think everyone on board" not sure exactly. look up the Tay Bridge Disaster
The train your mum went to London on from Liverpool is a Pendolino train, different to this one your driving Paul, this is a 4 car 221 and can be coupled up to make an 8 or 12 car.
hello. I live in Edinburgh, great place, the first stop after the tay bridge is RAF lauchers, pronounced LOU-KERS. and also it is pronounced KIR-CAW-DAY. thought I would help. lol which is no more now, they closed it down. the east main line is a food line, I go from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, 2 and half hour journey of bliss.
last time i went to edinbrugh there was a huge delay at the station. i arrived back at chester at about 11 at night but we should have arrived at 6 in the evening.
I know about Dundee and Edinburgh (I went there recently), but some of the towns I didn't recognise. However, I recognised leuchars for the same reason, the RAF base!
ROY CHIZANA Pendolino are 9 & 11 coaches long, VT Super Voyagers are only 5 and some work in pairs for long trips making 10 but some that come though the west midlands for Edinburgh only use one set of Super Voyager
Hi squirrel, great videos but i have a few points for newer videos, the Dundee to Penzance service is normally a HST service as most cross-country trains to the south west terminate in Plymouth. also, kirkcaldy is pronounced kirkoddy and leuchars is pronounced loocars. keep making great content
The longest direct rail journey in the UK starts in Aberdeen, Scotland, at 8:20am going to Penzance, England. With 770 miles to cover and 33 stations to stop at, it takes just under 13 hours 25 minutes to get there. Sources: Wikipedia for the UK longest direct rail journey's mileage and number of stations. Nearly teared up when Paul said "you see these around the UK everyday" RIP the virgin voyager🙏
Yeah, not the same witj XC. I like them, and I wasnt even born to go on one (2005), so ive only ever known XC, but they did look amazing
Yeah, not the same witj XC. I like them, and I wasnt even born to go on one (2005), so ive only ever known XC, but they did look amazing
The pillars next to the bridge at Dundee are from an old bridge that was destroyed in a storm a long time ago. And it looks awesome in real life.
Great video as usual, Paul. I don't mind the complicated trains every now and then, but sometimes they frustrate me. This looks like a nice route to drive. I look forward to part 2.
It’s been 6 years since I’ve watched you. I’m so happy I found you again
Love this video, im from dundee and have been on the dundee to Edinburgh line many of times and thia is a very realistic representation of the journey
I think the old Tay Bridge collapsed during a storm hence the old beige supports
Yes the old Tay bridge did collapse in a gale in the late 1800's. It wasn't very old and the bridge collapsed whilst a train was on the highest part. The disaster killed everyone on the train.
Yes it did
Those parts in water at start was the old bridge tht collapsed 100+ years ago the taybridge disaster.
I love that you even showed us where exactly this route is with google maps!
Watching this in 2019...the intro gave me the maddest nostalgia....great times
at 9.02 you were talking about those things coming out the water beside the bridge they are the remains of the old brige that fell down in 1879 while a train was crossing 79 people died
+HamishPlays that bridge had bad cross-section aerodynamics, yeah?
+HamishPlays I'm surprised he didn't know about the Tay rail disaster, probably due to how long ago it was but it made headlines throughout the empire at the time because it was the worst storm Britain had ever seen and 'popular' socialist Karl Marx was supposed to be on the following train after doing a lecture in Dundee but he was convinced to stay the night here due to the storm. The tay bridge collapsed because of faulty design and a very heavy storm. The tay bridge disaster happened at 19h15 on the 28th December 1879
I absolutely love it when you do train simulator videos they;re incredible.
The original tay bridge collapsed as a train was crossing in 1879, the pillars are still visible and are perfectly depicted in this sim!
Relaxed, not rushed streaming/chatting. Your worth a sub. gd vid.
I'm from Scotland and I loved the way you pronounce Edinburgh and Kirkalday. Good journey and great train
The bridge just after exiting Marmalade City is the Tay Bridge which was famously destroyed in a fierce storm in 1879 whilst a train was crossing with great loss of life. As you cross it now you can see the remains of the old foundations on your left.
I've crossed that bride many times, I live in dundee :)
I've been on that journey from Edinburgh but I went up further towards Aberdeen, plus I was on an East Coast train, not a Voyager. This is a very accurate simulation of it.
That's a fairly decent model of Dundee, considering how often it changes!
Squirrel! You convinced me to go and buy TS2014 on Steam. I stumbled across your channel yesterday and spent nearly 2 hours flipping through your library. Great stuff man. I guess some people just don't understand us Simmers!
Same
Same. With sim gaming you either take to it or you don't.
that's the tay bridge, and they're the struts from the old Bridge, which collapsed in a storm taking a steam train with it, and the lives of everyone on bored

I LOVE YOU AND YOUR UK TRAIN JOURNEYS trying to deal with trainz 2010 after 8 years of trainz 2009
This video is cool as I get this train frequently every few weeks. :D
OMG Thank you Paul for doing this video, I live in Cornwall and not far from Penzance. Thank you so much, for putting Cornwall in to your video :D
Will you be carrying on to Penzance? If so look out for Redruth Station this is my hometown.
Surprisingly realistic. It's almost the same as real life, with the quarry and bus depot just off the Tay Bridge, which are there in real life. And the buses even have the correct livery!

Hi Squirrel, so glad you decided to pick the route and train up, you should enjoy it a lot, just remember to brake early ;)
Loving this wee run down from Dundee as i used to work at Inverkeithing station and looking forward to seeing how its mapped as the ones so far in this video are pretty accurate. The best train sim video so far!
Great video am really loving this series.
the small bridge just before Edinburgh is called the forth rail bride! keep up the good work paul! :D
As regarding The Tay Bridge and the other struts that you mention in the video, that is the remains of the old bridge that collapsed in 1879 resulting in many lives being lost as a train was crossing it.

Yes you do!
NoTimeToExplain no its "hahaha yess you do"
uh oh no
no trains ahh
You can do that and it will make your vids epic
at your first stop on this scenario did you notice the name of the coach standing outside the station well if you didn't you should look and you would laugh as it says just trains on the back of it talk about free advertising lmao
Facepalm when he gets the names wrong! 😂
Wow... Paul on the Voyager Advanced
Green - Clear, you may proceed normally.

Squirrel, the bridge stands you were wondering about are the previous ones from the other bridge which collapsed in a storm many years ago and they built the current bridge next to it. Sorry if you already knew, just saying incase you didnt! :)
So I've just sat watched this got hooked and just went and bought the 2018 version and all dlc see you next year lol
love your videos, hope you can do more train, plane simulator and forza
once again i love your work and i hope to see more great videos in the future
Those struts where the old bridge that collapsed and killed everybody in a train when it fell
THIS IS INTENSE!
Adrenaline is pumping!!
Just for future reference, Leuchars is pronounced "lookers", Cupar "Coopar" and Kirkcaldy is just without the "l" (Possibly "Kirkoddy" depending your own inflections.)
Ha, I didn't scroll far enough
you know when your stomach feels funny when you really want somthing? mine feels funny because i really want to play this game. it's so cool.
Those sections in the water are parts of the old Tay bridge which was involved in the Tay bridge Disaster
plus those bridge struts that you saw in Dundee it was a part of the bridge cos it used to have a railway station on it
I adore the virgin pendolino they're so amazing in RL.
There are controls at the driver's feet. I think it's Driver Reminder Appliance (could be wrong on the name) which is a pedal they have to press every 15 seconds to tell the train he's alive and well.
the other bridge bases in the water after Dundee are from a bridge that collapsed during new years eve quite a while ago
Its an amazing simulator and you are very good at driving it
You should get a RailDriver (that is the name) and it's an amazing piece of machinery, it is modeled after a Dash-9 locomotive, which is an American locomotive used for hauling freight. Make sure you contact them and tell them that you are using it for TS14
He has ordered one.
Ok then
24TrainMan42 no
Albin Lindqvist Yes

Watching the video Dundee to Edinburgh the stumps that are popping out the waster on the first bridge crossing is where a previous bridge once stood as the original bridge fell in to the river
8.59 back im the 1800s the tay bridge fell a part thats the original bridge you are looking at
nice one paul! :D
the tay bridge peirs you see is the old ones that fell down look up tay bridge disaster a train was on it as it fell
I think the things at the side of the tay bridge when you are coming out of Dundee are from when tay bridge that collapsed in 1879 due to very stormy weather when a train was on it killing about 70 people. Correct me if I am wrong.
The stands sticking up from the water was from a previus bridge that FELL DOWN
9:09 it was the old bridge that was destroyed by a storm
The brakes on that train must be crap
There Very Good But The Braking System On The Train Isn't The Best
Meaning You Have To Brake Early
It's because it's a dynamic engine brake, but if you need to slow down quickly you need to press the emergency brake button, he should of pressed the emergency brake button when he was coming up to the first station.

hi squirrel I took your advise and did the vt new kid on the block but found during the instruction the gaps were to long between each instruction however I completed the scenario but found the return leg to be completed quicker than the outward bound leg
Dundee looks not bad also that's part of the old tay bridge your seen beside the bridge that collapsed during a storm
those stumps are from the old tay bridge. On the 28th December 1879 it collapsed killing "i think everyone on board" not sure exactly. look up the Tay Bridge Disaster
The bridge at the start is the Tay Bridge
I have a raildriver, and it's totally worth it.
To change the destination board you press control+F12 and to scroll back through the list is control+shift+F12
Dundee! What a city :)
the stumps are from the old dundee bridge which collapsed with a train going across it
The train your mum went to London on from Liverpool is a Pendolino train, different to this one your driving Paul, this is a 4 car 221 and can be coupled up to make an 8 or 12 car.
yay! a Scottish one finally! i can now say, 'i know where that is!!'
Hi five! :-)
hello. I live in Edinburgh, great place, the first stop after the tay bridge is RAF lauchers, pronounced LOU-KERS. and also it is pronounced KIR-CAW-DAY. thought I would help. lol which is no more now, they closed it down. the east main line is a food line, I go from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, 2 and half hour journey of bliss.
last time i went to edinbrugh there was a huge delay at the station. i arrived back at chester at about 11 at night but we should have arrived at 6 in the evening.
that Place 'Leuchars' its pronounced 'Luke -ers' reason being i regularly go there as there is an RAF Typhoon base there, RAF Leuchars
:)
I know about Dundee and Edinburgh (I went there recently), but some of the towns I didn't recognise. However, I recognised leuchars for the same reason, the RAF base!
this airbase is no longer an airbase :( loved going to the Airshow's
That train that your mother takes is a pendolino.
Its the voyager not the pendolino
ROY CHIZANA Pendolino are 9 & 11 coaches long, VT Super Voyagers are only 5 and some work in pairs for long trips making 10 but some that come though the west midlands for Edinburgh only use one set of Super Voyager
***** It's a Voyager
Bridge struts are from an old bridge that collapsed in a big storm on 28/12/1879
paul if you like the advanced nature of this train try the class 90 DLC as well it is so fun to get started
I'm from dundee and it's the previous bridge as it was the Tay rail bridge and it fell down
The bridge near dundee was the tay bridge before 1879 when it collapsed in a storm with a train on it.
To be fair, the massive slope downhill before Leuchars was incredibly steep for a train. I suspect that was the real issue.
Have a look at the class 20 collection from just trains and the Armstrong powerhouse sound packs
I got this within 3 days of watching this for the first time
Hi squirrel, great videos but i have a few points for newer videos, the Dundee to Penzance service is normally a HST service as most cross-country trains to the south west terminate in Plymouth. also, kirkcaldy is pronounced kirkoddy and leuchars is pronounced loocars. keep making great content

omg sounds like wheatley is driving this train. he's even clumsy like wheatley, missed his first platform, then contemplated reversing into said platform, then doesn't know why alarm is ringing in cockpit hahahah XD
I am ☺
David Card no u r not :P
Good video but please do some research on the root, the Dundee bridge stumps are the old bridge foundations. Many people died.
The Armstrong powerhouse sound pack makes it so the throttle stays at 100%
great work paul
The struts are from a previous bridge and the name is leucars the bridge at Edinburgh is the forth rail bridge
Squirrel, you sound a bit depressed. If not then, oké. Love you Squirrel
Never heard of that website but I went to it and it did have fairly good prices. Thinking about buying some of my Train Sim products from there.
Fantastic! I'm glad I'm not the only one to misjudge the breaking on the first platform... Going downhill is terrible!
I live on the other side of the bridge out of dundee!! My village, wormit, isn't in the game though!!
I'm from Scotland and when u said massive bridge incoming u went over the river Tay which is the biggest river in Scotland and the river forth
