I started with the stylus types video and I have been adjusting my tone arm whilst watching this one - I am surprised how wrong I was … awaiting my 2M black (tomorrow) to replace my 12 y.o. 2M blue. Thank you for making these videos.

@@Ortofonofficial You will be surprised: Because of your explanation videos and recommendation for my turntable on your website I ordered a 2M Blue, which arrived today just two hours ago. My preferred system the last years is or better was an OMB 5, bought 20 years ago but is worn out now as you can imagine. The turntable is a Technics SL D3, bought in 1984, still working, alway fitted with Ortofon cartridges...

@@Ortofonofficial As you recommended I took time for the change. I was really surprised what a great difference this is. Never thought that. Really astonishing what this makes a difference. The only annoying thing is, that the Ortofon test vinyl is scratchy on both sides. It was factory sealed but so sratchy I never got a brand new vinyl like this. I hope my dealer will replace it.

No mention of the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) by adjusting the ring to increase/decrease the height of the tonearm relative the platter?

I hope Audiotechnica also paid that man for using that table.. Because I want one ASAP.

Excellent video. I just installed a 2M Blue on my old Teac PX-500 and it was skipping. I adjusted the "length" to 52mm with a digital micrometer and I set the arm pitch to 1.8 and so far its fixed the problem. Thanks for your help!!!

Thanks for the video! I’m always amazed at the Germans and Japanese in how meticulous they are about everything. I mean that as a positive thing and live in America and don’t see this level of detail here in America.

Interesting on the 52mm distant bc they also have on new turntables platter what level to match and one I think you can download and put on the turntable.
The weight on my technic TT arm is tricky bc one part moves up and down the weight, but the number marking I guess you put after you adjust the weight bc it just turns but not moving anything.

It is good to attent people to take high care when brush a stylus.
    From back to front.
I always take a loupe to inspect the stylus condition.
I use only clean records, and it works!
When you bought a secondhand record and they send you a really used secondhand record, i always give a record a full clean and a fresh antistatic inner sleeve. Results a stylus that need no cleaning to much, less brushing mistakes, longer stylus life.
A good recordstore sell secondhand records that are pre cleaned with a serious record cleaning machine, this results in a dust and dirt free stylus longer as normal when put on a record without checking it’s condition.

Interesting, but my turntable also has an adjustment that raises and lowers the back of the tonearm so that the stylus sits straight up and down with the tonearm being level from front to back so I guess I'll have to figure out that adjustment myself.

How do you adjust to exactly 52mm? I must be very approximate because you can’t put a calliper on the stylus because it will break. I never understand how to do this.

    • @rustypipe

I wonder if the protractor is suitable for Technics 1210
You can use Technics overhang gauge and double check it with Sevenson protractor not sure if this one is good for it.

I used a digital caliper to install a Red on a Denon 300 yesterday and was able to visually line up the end of the stylus with one side of the caliper fairly well; might be off by a bit but hard to get more precise for the reasons you note.

Not too sure about the 52mm part... how do you measure that, exactly? The tonearm collar and the stylus point are not on the same level.

I love the way you explained the 52 mm distance which I render is the overhang. Is that the same for all tonearms or just the "S" tonearms?

    • @NiiOnLood
      @NiiOnLood ปีที่แล้ว

It's not the overhang. Overhang is the distance between stylus and spindle as stylus was placed directly over spindle. This number varies among manufacturers.
Many vintage Pioneer tables require stylus to locking ring distance being 49mm to achieve correct alignment.

Hello. I just bought an SH-4 Headshell in a store and now I discover that it is only supplied with very long screws. Is something missing in the packet or why do you only deliver the headshell with over 1 cm long screws? They are far to long for the 2M Red pickup that I have.

Normally, how to match the impedence between cartridge and phono stage?
For example, the internal impedence of MC cartridge is 5Ω, how many the ohm of impedence for phono stage?

With the Dane, we frequently find that the demeanour is calm and relaxed. This may be due to something in the water - or else perhaps a consequence of pleasure derived from listening to recorded music of a good quality. Who knows?

Yep. good vid. the fairly easily replaceable SAE head shell design ( about $25. including the critical wires ) is very good. as mentioned, some designs are not easily replaceable - and the 4 tiny wires / contacts are VERY fragile. break one and an expensive T'table can instantly become worth about 2 cents. pathetic design by companies, what about durability ? by now Cartridges should have a standard plug into end of tonearm design. I think maybe Technics had a system but somehow it didn't fly. ??

You need to tell people to twist the cartridge slightly in the head shell it is better alignment for the faster in a groove buy a millimeter or little bit more. Wally has done tests on zmith alignment and I found out 78% is inaccurate and this is even on expensive cartridges makes no difference on price even if yourself claim its half a percent and this is never correct majority of the time you can always get the tool to measure it from him
