OMFG! yes! I have this fucking awful mini atx small dick ass fuck fart MOBO? Heart attacks I have had so far: removing ram, install more ram, getting to the ram clips. Last time I upgrade ram was years ago when ramslots were far enough appart(?) and both ends opened, intalling another connector for more hd space, every video from tech tubers is all like: wave my hands and its that easy! uh mmm say that with a mobo and tower that incredibly cramped!

Used the screwdriver method for a long time with no issues... until there were issues. Screwdriver slid out of the slot taking a surface mount component with it on my $300 motherboard. Nice. Larger issue in my case wasn't necessarily the material as I'm sure even plastic would've ripped something off but force. When you're applying a downward force like that you're relying on your reaction time to know when to stop so if the clip is particularly stiff as it was in my case it can still cause problems. It night be wiser to strike the back of the implement with the handle of a screwdriver or small mallet. That way the force is only being applied to the clip and if it deflects it wont have any force chasing it just the inertia of the plastic itself. Not a mistake I plan on making again.

I found a reddit thread that suggested a wooden chopstick, and I managed to make that work perfectly (never slipped either, which was a relief)
I found it a lot easier to push almost entirely from the side (like the back of the pc case, rather than straight down), thinking of it as pushing the clip 'back' rather than 'down' (or I guess forwards, since that's towards the front of the case?)
The chopstick was super useful because of how long it was though, I have one of those fat new-gen cards and a giant cpu dual-tower cooler leaving me less than an inch of space to work with over the GPU.
Anyway, thank you for the video, it was helpful, and I'm glad I didn't use a screwdriver for it.

I broke the clip on my $800 MB (using the same tool you did) 8 months ago. Everything works and I didn't need to take it out so I left it. But still the card is stuck in the MB.
Now I need to take it out to install some Type-E right angle adapters and remove a standoff riser which my MB does not use (I think it's randomly shorting the graphics card. At least that's what my deep dive research suggests).
How do I remove the card? I used a lot of force and nothing moved. The card was unscrewed, nothing but the stupid clip was holding it in.
I just need it out of the MB and to do some maintenance.
MB is a ASUS Extreme formula VIII, EVGA 3090 ti so it's a lot of money to risk, but I can't deal with the random blackouts any more.

How do I get it out with my hand I push the lever down and one side is coming out. Is there something else I have to do?

ive just recently pulled out my GPU (the proper way of course not just yanking it out lol) because some dust kind of accumulated in the PCIe slot causing my GPU to have a poor connection.
since I booted it up and it was showing no display on the monitor but it boots up fine (was able to confirm this because the windows startup sound would play through my speakers)
used a canned air duster to spray the PCIe slot, dusted the pins on the GPU itself aswell and plopped it back it, everything was back to normal

Last time I struggled for 30 minutes to push it with a finger. Now after seeing this video it took me 2 seconds to push it with a credit card.

my PCIE clip broke off when i was just using my finger, not even sure how since i wasnt putting that much pressure on it. no other damage apart from that broken piece, everything still works fine. Had to take out my GPU to reach the smaller PCIE slot for a wifi card

Zotac rtx 3070ti and Asus b55f g WiFi - it is impossible to remove the thing. I could hit it with a sledgehammer it won't even unclip

Any tips on removing the clip altogether before installing anything on the slot? I think the clip should not exist at all; as long as you screw in the card tight enough, the clip will not be of benefit.
This design was okay when graphics cards were small, so the clip was easily visible and reachable, but this was a long time ago. Today, on top of the sheer size of the card, a thick backplate may make pushing the clip with a finger very hard even with good clearance, since it may partially cover it. This design should not be utilized any further is my opinion, all new mobos should come with something easier/more advanced, and most importantly safe for the other parts to operate with.

And to remove a 4090ti you shall require an electrician and forklift. :)

a pull tab should be added now to all motherboards at the far right as the Graphics Cards are getting way bigger

I removed the broken clip, took out another clip from an old motherboard, shoved that one in and I'm back on, the motherboard was scratched too but seems like msi did a good job with their x570 tomahawk, we'll update if anything comes up

STRIX motherboards are known to be faulty. i slotted in a 6800xt and now i want to clean it but the clip is practically wedged into the gpu, i had to use a hammer and a trim tool to tap the thing loose.

Definitely didn’t use a screw driver and definitely didn’t scratch the motherboard. But seriously why is the pci e clip literally a single millimeter from the ram. It was physically not possible for me to click that clip with all the useless cables from my non-modular power supply

Yeah, i was adding some additional fans to my PC and used a screw driver, didnt realize the lever only went all the way back when the slot was empty and kept pushing like an idiot cuz I thought it wasn't open, the slot is fine but the clip is now loose and doesn't click anymore :C Can't believe I did it to my first PC build :C

Fine if you are using an AIO but if they have a longer tool that can get past a D15 noctua then i'm all ears
