❤ FORGOT TO MENTION IN THE VIDEO - THE MARS BARS ARE BEST KEPT IN THE FREEZER OR FRIDGE UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO FRY THEM...GET THEM AS COLD AS POSSIBLE BEFORE FRYING ❤
I've been waiting for this one. I work in a bakery in Texas. We sell a gluten free bread that is made in Edinburgh. The sales rep was visiting our bakery. He was from Scotland. He was remarking on a cranberry pistachio bread we make that has a bit of hagelzucker on top. He said it was a very American thing to add sugar to perfectly good bread. I told him it was funny hearing that from a man who hails from the country that invented the deep fried Mars bar. We had a good laugh. 🙂
Yes, Milky Way is the US version of Mars Bars. More than 10 years ago, I actually had a deep-fried Twinkie at a restaurant. It was wonderful. They served it with a raspberry sauce. 😊
I can't think of a greater contribution to the world from Scotland then this recipe! Truly a classic. BTW, the older the grease the deeper the flavor, look for a rundown chippy with dirty oil for the true experience.
I'll try this with a snickers bar or Cadbury boost bar as I'm not keen on mars bar. Brilliant video, the way that you present the food makes it all look very yummy
I haven't made these before but someone told me that they freeze the candy bars before dipping in batter and frying. Might help with not so much chocolate leaking.
😂😂 I had deep-fried pizza in Ayr once upon a time. Also, deep-fried haggis. There was a place in Bristol/Somerset which did a deep fried Christmas dinner every December
In South Africa we have the Bar One...I think it's probably the same or basically the same thing as your Mars Bars. They're so popular that we have a Bar-One chocolate cake with the the bars melted in hot cream and poured over the cake like a ganache. There's even a Bar One sauce for ice cream. The homemade version is Bar One, cream and sweetened condensed milk heated until the bars are melted. It's absolutely divine when it's still warm and you pour it over plain vanilla ice cream. I'm planning on trying deep fried Bar One with your batter recipe 🥰
long time back I was in a Scottish town the only place serving food on Sunday evening was the chippy on the menu was deep fried black pudding I fancied trying it but it was the ring style not the chub didn't think I had room for it
I used to be a catering manager and had a chocolate promotion running for a week, I included various chocolate desserts on the menu including deep fried mars bars (the treat size ones in a batter made with 1/2 self raising flour to 1/2 cornflour, really crispy!) It was hilarious, I had to force my lovely assistant, who was not at all impressed with the idea to try one, she ate more than we sold, she became a fan! A true delicacy, don't knock it till you try it 🙂
@@patriciacorpe6228 Canadian here, so we get them at pubs and fish and chip shops sometimes. Oh, and fairs, but that's where we truly deep-fry everything, right? 🤣
Thank you, Cheryl! A fried Mars bar is on my list when I come to visit! Though, I am concerned. If a fried Mars bar is about 900 calories, how many more calories are in our fried chocolate bars here in the States? We freeze the bars first. That aids in keeping the chocolate and the centers better. They warm up nicely in the frying. We use pancake batter as the dipping batter. I'm guessing that takes the calorie count well over 1,000+ 😮 No difference. I cannot wait for my first fish and chips, followed by a fried Mars bar. Then, I must eat healthy the remainder of my visit. 🎉🎉🎉❤
I’ve wanted to try one of these for ages!! I once went into my local Chip Shop and asked if they would batter one for me if I brought it in, and they looked at me blankly and said no lol (I’m in England). Great video as always xx
My husband is actualiy in Scotland at the moment & he is gutted that he wont be able to try one of thses as unfortunately at the momemt certain foods are off limits due to z medical, and chocolate is 1 of them. And he loves a mars bar so once he is able to have chocolate again going to give these a go. Im not really a chocolate person but im intrigued by these so im going to have 1 as well when i make them but that coukd be a month or 2 yet. Look very easy cheryl
Good evening Cheryl, oooh deep fried Mars Bars, contravertial territory!😉😆 Wait till your chief critic Tink 🧚🏼♀️ sees this one 😳, she’ll be needing a big whiff of smelling salts to revive her wee fairy wings after watching this!🤭😆😂🤣 I’ve never actually tasted one, but have to admit, that gooey melted nougat & caramel, coupled with creamy vanilla ice cream does look tempting!🍨 As always, thanks for sharing 🙏 & enjoy the rest of your week. xx 👩🏻🍳🏴💕💞💖
A chippy that used to be in Taunton in Somerset, which is now a Polish shop - no, Pole-ish - not pol-ish - used to make deep fried Mars bars and even, as they were called then - deep fried Marathons, before they became Snickers - would other types of chocolate work? Kit Kat? Bounty? Wispa? British Milky Way? I have been known to have Kit Kat and tomato sauce sandwiches!
Aye trial and error on chocolate sweets I mind back in the day deep frying a lot of different sweets at work off the chocolate stand as we had left over batter one night just for a laugh for the staff to try and am sure one was a mikly way deep fried but it was the the late 90s before they changed to the recipe freddo and finger of fudge is also good as well
I've tried this before. I'm not crazy over Mars bars anyway...and Oreos deep fried. Kind of the donut burgers. Looks great until you try it. Not really for me but hey...indulge.

For people who love coconut, make a deep friend Bounty bar - it’s Heaven!!!!

More than 10 years ago, I actually had a deep-fried Twinkie at a restaurant. It was wonderful. They served it with a raspberry sauce. 😊
In the UK a milky way is a Mars bar minus the caramel ... I'd think a milky way would make for an inferior diabetic's delight?
@@robertlower6212 and the UK Milky Way is known as a Three Musketeers bar in the US. It's all very confusing.
Perfect timing. I've just filled my deep fryer with new oil today and are going grocery shopping tomorrow. Need to give this a try for fun.
Oh my goodness please do it, it's amazing, best wishes

Brilliant, our local "Tally's" in Greenock used to serve Deep fried Pizza, as well as "Ashet Pies, Black Pudding, and Haggis" all fried to perfection.

off on a tangent, however in Glasgow this week and had deep fried anchovies on my ceasar salad..........amazing
Here in the USA everything is battered and deep fried. It looks good. You re so good at plating your food and filming your videos. Love ya.
Well, not everything. But a lot. Especially at the fair.
wow everything? I guess I shop and eat at different places.

I first tried one of these about 20 years ago when I used to go visit an old girlfriend. I think i spent more time in that chipshop than with her :D
I live in Canada and we have deep friend Mars Bars before. Delicious!
We usually get deep fried milky ways at carnivals. I've had deep fried oreos before, they're pretty good.
Can’t even eat chocolate but my mouth is watering so much at the look of that plateful!

Its a weight watchers dessert.............................you watch the weight go on while you eat it ;-)

And don’t forget your cholesterol level. 😂
A true diabetic's delight!
Here in the US, Mars makes Snickers and M&Ms. And oddly enough, Altoids.
Altoids was a favorite of one of my aunts. Mine too.
In New Zealand, they are a Cadbury Moro Bar, deep-fried only in the bottom of the South Island, where the Scots settled.
Try the same batter with oreos! Yum!!!

Well if the Mediterranean can have a diet named after it, I think the Firth of Clyde can have its own diet, too! 😅
I always thought deep-frying candy bars was a Southern US thing. We'll deep-fry anything, even Twinkies!
