Sweet ride and justifiable pride. Kudos for keeping the day dream alive all these years ! Makes me feel both old (that seems a lifetime ago) and young again (trippy nostalgia)... I had no idea 70's Vanning was still alive :-) Makes me want to hunt down an old van and go to town on it !

I have had a bad week. This bought a smile to my face. My late brother in law would have loved this van. He built several himself in the 70’s and early 80’s. Then the van craze faded and he switched to street rods. I spent many a days in my teenage years helping him build them. I know exactly how this man feels.

As I mentioned in the veido,it's amazing how far we came I forgot about filing by hand, cutting with a coping saw Hand screws drivers a electric drill that was big and clumsy, welding in the doors with a coat hanger and torch, having to have someone teach you as you go cause you were almost crazy working on custom Rides! And make almost everything!

Find an old Warshawsky catalog...you'll be surprised at what was available back then. Their store on State St in Chicago was even more impressive than their catalog..I'd spend hours there when I got my first car in '86. Even then, there were plenty of clearance items left over from the 60s and the van craze of the 70s.

This guys children lucked out in the dad lottery - you guys got a good one! The van itself is rolling folk art, with a large helping of memoir. The steering system!? Astounding. My brother Mark had a quad stereo and tape deck that someone gave him and he converted it to 12v and ran 12" Peavy speakers in his ride, talk about a block rocker! When I first saw the guy going around the front of the van talking about everything I thought the chrome name tag above the grill said "Dirty Dreams" LOL. I got a good kick out of that.
When I realized the guy actually named his van "Day Dreams" and heard how important that was as a part of the theme for his creation and how often he came back to that as being the heart of his concept I still couldn't shake the funny thought of what I originally thought he named his van and it kinda made me feel bad for still chuckling at the thought of this dude driving around in a shaggin waggon called "Dirty Dreams"!!! LOOOOL
This dude is a serious and dedicated creator and the awesome history of what he has put into this thing is pretty rad.
Just imagine the time it took to do all that wiring for all those switches!
Not even my twisted humor can take that away from him.
And No steering wheel? When it got to that part I thought he was going to say something like...
"Before you can steer it you gotta get very high and imagine the wheel... then use your thoughts to turn it."
But then he pointed to the bus door opener looking lever control and I was like oh it's like a boat keel kinda but backword.
    Far out man!
Day Dreams is OK but it will always be remembered by me as the "Dirty Dreams" van because that is soooo much more fitting.

Dear God, I think we may be the same person! We are the same age and do the same stuff! I learned from my dad, who was raised on a farm, how to make things happen with what you have and what can be had. When I had a work van, I had power inverters, power strips, battery chargers, led work and mood lighting and a 12v Boston Acoustics computer speaker system with subwoofer + noise filter all stashed away so the fleet mechanic would not find them. I do RC trucks now and have a '79 Bronco named CIRCA'81, complete with all the performance decals + bumper stickers of the day. My room is equipped with vintage stereo and current equipment- flat screen, DVD, VHS, cassette, equalizer, turntable, etc, 'candle light' made from led candles, 5v phone charger + split rca wiring, (feel free to borrow the idea- I'm also hiding candle leds in my car!) and a 'negative isobar' ventilation system made from an old hepafilter and dryer duct that pulls in cool air from the a/c and under the door and vents into the attic. Later on, brother from a different mother! Lol!

    Scooby Doo approved!
I remember custom vans like this growing up in the 70’s and early 80’s

My '90 Dodge B250 Hi-top conversion van is no true custom job, but it's mine, and I have always wanted a big conversion van since I was a kid.
Now, I'm 45, and finally have one. Vanning Is definitely still a thing! I have been seeing a lot more conversions and custom vans around my area lately.

That steering mechanism looks pretty cool. Would love to try it myself.
