It's sobering how more and more of the actors I grew up watching are in these memoriams. I didn't know Bob Hoskins passed away this year, looks like Smee and Peter Pan will have many more adventures in the hereafter.
@@bellcstu yes, beautiful ... sobering ... makes one think, maybe even realize, that TIME, tho' relative, is not infinite. 4:11 -- TH-cam's new feature is a bit tricky: here, the peek of REPLAYS seems to mean all that follows. Am I correct?
Yeah it was definitely hard, and that beautiful woman singing that very sad song, but it was beautiful but it made even sadder , wow that's how a in memoriam is done
I was shocked when Robin Williams killed himself, he wasn't from my generation but I grew up watching him. His death had taught me something; when he's on stage, TV, and film he looks fine, making us laugh but behind all that it was a mask hiding the pain that he carried for such a long time. When he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Disease, he knew that his life was over and he was tired. And I will always remember his last words in his final film: "Smile my boy, it's sunrise". Rest in peace to a beautiful and humorous soul who will always live on in our hearts and generations to come.
I've always found this song to be kind of sappy, but Sara's delivery and vocal were so earnest and humble that I was truly moved. Bravo Sara Bareilles! (you'd think since they failed to introduce her during the telecast they could at least acknowledge her in the video, but no...)
Crystal did a hell of a job without much lead time - very poignant way of describing not only his friendship but William' influence on the world in just a few minutes.

The extended In Memoriam on Facebook (which I missed, because I was working that night) featured game show hosts Jim Lange and Geoff Edwards among others.
They also left out Ed Nelson who was one of the stars of "Peyton Place" - often referred to as "the first prime-time soap opera" - the show that opened the door for "Dallas", "Dynasty", "Falcon Crest etc.
It would have been nice to see Charles Keating remembered, especially since they can't seem to be bothered with Memoriam segments much on the Daytime Emmys.
If they had kept the cameras off the singer so much and focused more on honoring those they left out then they would've had time to include such people as Dave Madden, Bob Hastings, James Rebhorn, Joseph Ruskin, Arlene Martel, Tom Laughlin, Tony Musante, Jane Kean, Lou Scheimer, Ed Lauter, Jay Robinson, Kim Hamilton and Ed Nelson. I guess the-powers-that-be who make the final decision as to who will be included in segment obviously thought that Maya Angelou was more deserving. Gimme a freaking break, no disrespect towards her but a handful of small TV credits doesn't warrant inclusion.
Give *me* a break, they hardly showed Sara Bareilles--and you don't have a singer of her caliber on stage and not give her some camera time. But even if they'd cut her completely they would not have had time to show all the people you suggested.
They showed her for at least 90 seconds, plenty of time to put more names on the screen. Trust me, nobody watches this segment to see the singer. Of course if they had kept costume designers, lighting designers, publicists and other people that 99.99% of those watching have never heard of off the screen then there would be more time for those that got slighted and believe me, they can put a lot of names up there in 90 seconds I still say the best thing would be to show 2 people on the screen at the same time, you can honor twice the number in the same amount of time and although that might not guarantee that everyone will be included, it should definitely help. Another idea I had was to honor those behind the scenes in a separate segment that would be shown at one point during the broadcast and another for the actors/actresses but no matter what, they're not going to please everyone.
Nope, 60 seconds total, most of which was intro and outro. And in this case many people *were* watching for the singer--hence all the buzz about this performance the next day. They don't show everybody on the planet, in part because the Emmys have a separate industry function to honor all those who passed.
*+rodrigo núñez* (You needn't apologize for your English.) I admit that I had to look up the name to be sure I had the right person in mind, but I agree, he should have been included. He would surely have been recognized by virtually everyone.

who was that awful singer !with a strained voice stressful to listen to . I've zapped , never seen a worse memorium. We want the short moment to think about the person. It's not a show!
Clearly you have zero musical taste or knowledge. There is no 'strain' whatsoever and your suggestion of it is quite laughable. Moreover, this performance was UNIVERSALLY lauded by critics as FLAWLESS in both its vocal and delivery. People were begging the Emmys and Sara to release to release it on iTunes. FYI, there is a far more popular clip of only Sara's performance that has 223K views (8+ times this clip) that has only 8 thumbs down, which is probably a youtube record for something with that many views. And clearly you've never watched the Emmys before because this performance was probably one of the least intrusive musical performances during an In Memoriam. Dismissed!
LOWE sonia I could not agree more ! The In Memoriam segment (on every awards show) should be accompanied by instrumental music only and should be longer to include EVERY eligible person.

He had cancer, bipolar disorder, Parkinson's disease, and dementia also
My Laughter will never be what it was . I hope Robin found peace. No one ever made us laugh like he did. :-(
He did. And he would've loved the recent SNL takeoff on Dead Poets Society.
Never thought he was funny at all as a stand-up. Couldn’t stand his manic behavior. Much preferred his serious movie roles.
I love you so much Sara! This is lovely! AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!
Then she did it on the 2017 In Memoriam at the Oscars.
was so beautiful. i cried so much for all my faves have died this year.
Maya Angelou broke my heart
Fun Fact: The song Sara sang was written by another legend of comedy, Charles Chaplin.

Wouldn't it have made sense to show some of his Mork & Mindy material being as it's a tribute to his television work?
Most of that was stand up anyway.

I still don't believe it. I think the writers of Mork & Mindy got it right. He was definitely not of this world, and he certainly was too good for it.

Paul was on "The Young and the Restless" for a time, prior to his movie career.

They sometimes include actors who never really were tv actors because of popularity
Not to sound like a prick, but it's true

Where is Richard Bull ? He deserved to be there more than Lauren Bacall or Philip Seymour Hoffman who did not work on TV
