I'm watching this with tears in my eyes. The loss of this beautiful man still cuts so deep. His was a voice that could simultaneously soothe and inspire you. All seemed right with the world when he sang. Some of the light has gone from this world.
Beautiful - the simplicity and sincerity of the staging gives more power to the voice. Perhaps the most poignant act in all opera. The dignity of both. Exquisite. Sadder than ever to listen now knowing the great Hvorostovsky will not sing this in this world again.

En cuanto a este dúo, es de los MÁS HERMOSOS EN VIVO que he oído y visto. Es de una PROFUNDIDAD, que sólo un sordo no puede darse cuenta. Es desgarradoramente hermoso. Es tan vivo, tan real, que parece que SUCEDE, que es verdad, que no es actuación..... Y eso ocurre pocas veces. Ya no se admiten, ni comparaciones, ni pretenciones..... INDEED I WOULD WISH HE HAD HAD A MORE BEAUTIFUL SET TO ALLOW HIM TO BE MORE COMFORTABLE AND RELAXED....THE WIERD PLACINGS OF SEATS AND SUDDEN POINTLESSS RUNNING AROUND OF VIOLETTA....DISTRACTS FROM THE MUSIC....THAT COMPLETELY BREAKS ANY MUSICAL MOOD OF THE SCENE.....IT MAKES A MESS OF VERDIS DRAMA....AND BOTH SINGERS HAVE TO WORK TWICE AS HARD TO 'RE ESTABLISH THE EMOTIONAL TENSION.
watched la Traviata at the met in the early 2000s. can't remember the singers. But I vividly remember this part. The sadness of Violetta is so touching. I was almost sobbing by the end of this scene. This video takes me back to that moment. La Traviata is an amazing opera.
