      Speaking of mountains and views, next time visit Shipka and Buzludzha (a flying saucer-shaped building). They are close to each other, situated amid the Balkan mountain range. Really cool, check them out! Also Etara, which is an ethnographic open-city museum and nearby old capital of Veliko Tarnovo.
      And you are welcome to Bulgaria anytime!

    It's very evident that this is a mature mountain range - lots of wind erosion. Gives it a real classic view like the Vosges in eastern France.

    Thank you for the high quality informative fun videos. Learning with you is fun, you are good teachers. Several Bulgarians I have talked to tried to change my negative impression of Bulgaria and now you have changed my impression to positive, thanks for that. I have been wavering on increasing my patron amount. This video convinced me, so I have quit being cheap and doubled my patreon amount. Finally, when you get back to the states, take a break. One vlog a week while you are recharging your batteries is plenty. Get back to where you were mentally and physically when you took off for Iceland. Then you will be able to give us another wonderful series of travel vlogs. One more thing the new way away, makes an attention grabbing logo. So hopefully you can figure out how to compensate with SEO.

    • @alwaysforevercurious8607
      @alwaysforevercurious8607 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used as a search string on youtube "Europe travel" because I did not know about the way away when I did the search.

      Wow! Thanks Kris! That is very generous of you! :)
      We don't always have ALL the facts 100% correct because we are in the process of learning too, but we like sharing what we have learned.
      We'll see how vlogging goes when we visit home for the holidays, but I don't anticipate needing to cut it back to once a week.
      As far as SEO goes, yes, it does affect it a bit, but we still show up first (in my tests) when you search for The Way Away on YT. /J

      Ryan Unger you got to go to a different part in the country like the mountains "Pirin", "Rhodopes", "Old bulgarian mountain", "Rila" keep in mind the country is around 60% mountain areas so there are amazing places, there is a video on youtube named "geography now Bulgaria" to get to know the physical geography ;)

  • @Polyboy70
    @Polyboy70 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Ash and Josh, you didn't promise too much. What an amazing place.
    Bulgaria is considered as the poorest country inside the EU and the EU put a lot of money in this country to improve infrastructure and genarally the living standard. But it looks like, that is you benefit now, just a few tourists, normal down to earth people, good traditional food and cheap prices. BTW, the best places are always, when you have to walk/hike/climb and most of the people these days consider it as unsafe (which is absolutely not the case), because people are to lazy to do something to get something.
    I am very happy for you that you went to Bulgaria, which is really not the first place to think about when it comes to holidays. But you made the perfect desicion and your trip moved to higher level of exploring Europe, very well done and many thanks.
    Michael.

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Michael, I loved that it was a little bit dangerous. I dislike it when everything is fenced off and safe. If we wanted to, we could have climbed right up to the top of those rock towers and no-one would have stopped us! There weren't even signs saying not to! /J

    • @Polyboy70
      @Polyboy70 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josh, yes, that's maybe a new experience for you, when you compare it with the US, but "no risk, no fun" hahaha. But we call that common sense and you have for sure a kind of self responsibility, which is nowadays vanishing due to the exeggarated safety culture.
      I would love to go with you one time to the Alps, that you could experience how it is to be not 100% safe. That means not that you are not safe, but unforseen things can happen and everybody must be good equiped and self responsible and for sure there are everywhere rescue teams and helicopters, if something bad happens. One of the greatest mountaineers said:"If you make the mountains safe, there is no need to go there anymore", and he is right.
      There are tons of historical places, castles and adventures, but as I told you, to get something there, you must do something, means little hiking and/or a little climbing (but not really dangerious).
      In return, you will get some amazing (self-)experiences you will never forget.
      Anyway, you are doing things already, which are for sure considered as unsafe in the US, but it is not and I am hoping to see many more videos about your adventures in the future.
      Oh, I forgot, yesterdays in the news they said, starting in 2017, there will be a free Interrail Ticket (Train ticket for whole EU) for all EU-Citizens when they get the age of 18. What a great idea.

    • @dwartbg1
      @dwartbg1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Polyboy70 Bulgaria is one of the most visited countries in Europe since many years so its not exactly empty of tourists as you think it is. The summer season which is from May to September had more tourists than the whole population of the country and hotels were booked out. Its hardly a country thats off the beaten path, maybe in 1996 it was.

    • @Polyboy70
      @Polyboy70 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ясен Събев: I am sure that you are right when you speak about the coast line of the black sea, but at the Eurostat statistics (only EU members considered) for "nights spend by residents and non residents at tourist accomodation establishments per inhabitants" Bulgaria is ranked 21 of 28 and at the statistik for "nights spend at tourist accomodation establishments" it is ranked 13 of 28. So, I think, I haven't been so wrong with my estimation.
      Anyway, Bulgaria is for sure a beautiful country and I hope many more tourists will go there to have wonderful experiences. I hope i will have the chance to go there either.

    • @dwartbg1
      @dwartbg1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Polyboy70 no this is something old youve read. For 2015 Bulgaria ranks 10th in the EU in terms of overnight stays. Listen to me Im the one getting tired of walking in the center of Sofia and always seeing hordes of tourists wishing to hear Bulgarian language spoken but no... Which is in most parts good but still to not be able to speak your language in your own country is sometimes weird.

    hello there, it is nice to find your travel vlog. I am travelling to Sofia in April for a dance festival. I once saw a video of a couple dancing on a beautiful promenade or parapet, overlooking a beautiful valley with city below - which I thought was maybe Sofia - and it looked like there was a café on the promenade - it was hard to tell because the camera angle was from above the promenade - I am wondering if you came across such a place during your travels in Bulgaria - overlooking Sofia? Thank you for sharing your travels - - my name is Suzanne Manvell.

    I got my postcard from Monenegro! Yeah! Ash, someone wrote a whole novel on this tiny card, do you never sleep? Thanks so much.
    Caution: Way Away written with a Delta looks cool, but the search engine now does not find your vlogs using the "real name".
    Ash, seeing you standing on top of this mountain/castle made me feel so dizzy I could hardly watch it. I usually sh*t my pants if I have to look deep down from a mountain or tower...
    Josh, in the cave you saw stalagmites and stalactite. There is an adult aide-moire which kind (up or down) is what: (Ash, read something else!): The hanging ones are the tits... ouch.

      Hey Thomas! Yeah I knew it wouldn't show up immediately for search with the delta symbol but it's an experiment to see if tag SEO can overcome that. It looks cool. :p And the amount of people searching for The Way Away is VERY low. Plus you can still do th-cam.com/users/thewayaway if you want to share w/a friend.
      We always said Stalactite because it had to hold on tight. 😂

      Well, second try to convince you:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_follows_function
      "The evolution of culture marches with the elimination of ornament from useful objects"
      "Adolf Loos (1870 - 1933)
      Yes, I can be a pain in the ass :)

    This would have been the worst day ever if it was raining, such a small difference would kill all this pleasure. P.s. long live Mediterranean.
