Im gonna say congrats tonight nick on reaching 50k subs thoughly deserves it for making a truely great watchable and funny channel. And i wish this channel and yourself all the very best. Nice one nick
Nice pen. After you drill the blank, paint inside the hole with model paint - use what ever color you want depending on what the colors are in the blank already. Then glue the tube in using 5 minute epoxy. This way you can use any tube you have on hand, just get multiple small bottles of paint. A small paint brush can be used or a Q-Tip/cotton tip applicator - you know, those things you use to clean your ears. I was given this advice when I first started turning acrylic pens. Works well and is easy. Love your channel and your projects. Scott
Hi Nick, I paint the inside of the blank a sympathetic colour to what I hope will be in the finished pen, before I glue in the brass tube, as that way around the paint hides any glue issues.
I really do like the idea of a matchstick pen and this one doesn't disappoint. If I may make a suggestion, you can colour two part epoxy resin (Glue) in the same way you colour your resin. Also, adding a bit of glitter makes it sparkle.
I think if you used white pearl powder in the resin when you make the pen blanks it would counter act the foggy white color the superglue creates! I'm sure it would basically be unnoticeable! Great video! ❤️
Hi Nick - the misting may be from the CA glue you used on the finish - I have had the same issue. Have to check each layer to ensure no misting has occured and sand it out before the next coat is applied. Also with the bullet pens install the refill last by screwing the bullet nose off - this way the spring fits correcting for a smooth bolt action. Neat idea with the matchsticks tho !!
Awesome! I am getting alot of inspiration from your projects. What might be interesting is a pen and pencil set (including presentation box) all made from the same blank. Just an idea. Thanks for getting back to those blanks so quickly. Anyway, cheers and keep up the awesome.
I was just thinking of random things you could set in resin to make a pot or something. Have you ever tried anything with computer components? Like keyboard keys or even small motherboards. The metal might pose a hazard but if its deep enough in resin it might look cool? Anywho, keep up the cool work! Always a joy to watch your videos!
Hey Nick... Thanks for the great surprise! It was awesome to wake up on a Saturday to a new vid! I think the pen looks wonderful, with the white'ish background giving the color such pop... If you do try sealing the barrel in with epoxy resin, try doing just a touch of polishing that bore hole first... Can't wait to see your first double barrel pen! Hopefully that's something you'll try with the next one of these blanks. Keep up the awesome!!
Would love to see you try making some drop spindles for hand spinning with resin and match sticks or pencils or whatever. I enjoy watching your projects
Nick, you can use the five minute epoxy resin that many use in knife making. It dries crystal clear, I would probably hit it with some heat to get the air bubbles out from mixing it. I couldn't see the white cloudiness from the CA glue. Even if you can see something, it still turned out amazing! What was the polishing you used in the white bottle at the end, before buffing? I'm going to try some resin art and want to try using something to make it nice and shiny! Brilliant job as always bud! Now off to sleep, it's past 2:30AM here lol
Great pen! Have you ever done this with fountain pen? It would look good if you made a fountain pen and have the lid and the barrel, with one of your blanks.
the point of the mandrel saver is to not use the bras nut so it applies pressure to the bushings/ blank instead of the mandrel like a regular live centre which can bend it also, paint the inside of the blank then the superglue is hidden
Jon Hunt I believe you can get by without the with kit. I'm sure people use a light mallet or even clamps to get a nice fit. Wouldn't be to hard to get some padding around everything. But that kit does take little time to make everything fit very nicely!
You would need a lathe (obviously) and a pen mandrel with bushing to get started as well as pen kits, I would recommend getting a barrel trimmer too because it makes preparing the blanks SO much easier. Anything after that is just extras.
Nice pen! What was in the white bottle that you used? It was difficult to read. You could use the little ducklings and chicks that I had sent in a pen, I think they would fight right in without any being taken off! Thanks Nick
Look around for a local Wood turning group. They will be able to help you out. Odds are that they will let him turn some to see if he likes it before you start spending money! :D
Quite nice. Brilliant pen, Nick. Do you have any pens that require two blanks? I've seen them around. These match-stick blanks would look great on a two blank pen.
Love the matchstick pen. It is very colorful!
Fantastic. Waiting for the Next one Nick! Ill be hangin!!!
I also think half burned matchsticks would make a cool effect as well. Very cool man. I like all the colorful things you make.

Steven Root it would be a good "match"ing set
I like it, it looks dope, nick. Keep it up and thank you.
More inspiration. Cheers Nick!

Looks cool!
The final polish on acrylics I use T-Cut that you use for your car as long as you shake it well it works amazing and it is cheap lol
Hi nick
Nice bullet Pen 😁
Thanks for sharing, take care
JLo7575 thanks buddy have a great weekend 😜👍🏽
Great video Nick, and a really beautiful looking pen mate.
Cheers
Mike
Really nice pen Nick lovely finish to blank. Excited to see what else you come up with. Pam :-)
Highlandboxes thanks Pam much appreciated . Take care
Tyvm I love it.

Sharp looking pen! 👌🤘 Ready to hit the waves? 😜
Great pen! Have you ever done this with fountain pen? It would look good if you made a fountain pen and have the lid and the barrel, with one of your blanks.
AHA!!! I'm here bright and early ;)
Carbella o haha thanks for watching Carbella. Take care x
Beautiful pen!
Аleksey Bek Thanks Aleksey
Why does super glue is good to finish it? What properties does it have?
the point of the mandrel saver is to not use the bras nut so it applies pressure to the bushings/ blank instead of the mandrel like a regular live centre which can bend it also, paint the inside of the blank then the superglue is hidden
GeorgeS seems that pen turning requires some special kit.
Jon Hunt I believe you can get by without the with kit. I'm sure people use a light mallet or even clamps to get a nice fit. Wouldn't be to hard to get some padding around everything. But that kit does take little time to make everything fit very nicely!

Nice work dude
Nathan Foster thanks dude 😜👍🏽
pen looks great
I'm really a fan of double barrel pens myself. Any plans for those Nick?
Right!? I've been begging forever! It is a challenge though, as much of the technique is just slightly different... Can't wait though!
Great pen! Will you be putting one of these pens up for sale on your website? I might be interested in buying a cool pen...awesome job!
"Stick with me" 😂
very cool
Nice outcome! You know what? An ant pen would be really cool. Ants or some other little bugs.
Brilliant! I love this idea! Hope he reads it and finds a way!!
Hi Nick, Nice looking pen. Can I ask, where do you get your pen kits from?
Amazing. (applause!).
Hey Nick, great video! Where do you get the pen parts from?
Great project mate... not sure how I feel about being an old one lol
Nice turn out. Who did you get the pen kit from? Good job
Really curious as to what is in the aerosol can that your spraying on the pen blank, while applying the CA glue ?
To get rid of that white mist and hide the tube, try a shot of colored (or black) spray paint down the hole before you install the tube.
Nice pen! What was in the white bottle that you used? It was difficult to read. You could use the little ducklings and chicks that I had sent in a pen, I think they would fight right in without any being taken off! Thanks Nick
My Hubby wants a lathe & I have no clue about them. Whichwould yu recommend as a starter please Nick?
Dawn Mason hey dawn the DML 250 from record power 👍🏽
Yep that one is doable but what about a starter set of tools... he doesnt even have a shed yet lol
Look around for a local Wood turning group. They will be able to help you out. Odds are that they will let him turn some to see if he likes it before you start spending money! :D
Thanks Alaric will do.
Quite nice. Brilliant pen, Nick. Do you have any pens that require two blanks? I've seen them around. These match-stick blanks would look great on a two blank pen.
*"Keep calm and waffle on"*
nice pen Nick
Hello nice bullet Pen !!!
Vivika Vika hey thanks 😜
Do you commission work?
i like the gun💖
New lathe Nick?
Can you make some skinny pen's as well? I think they may look a bit nicer in my opinion. Still great job!
Love the pen. How about colored resin.
You need to add glitter 🦄 to something, anything, everything 🤣 please and ty!
Shimmeron Foxclaw the problem with glitter is that it sinks
Glitter is the herpes of the craft world. Once you get it in you...you can’t get rid of it 😂😂
I think you should try to get a clear barrel and us epoxy, I think it would show your blank off so much better
Like it! Not tried pen turnings...
Jon Hunt thanks John
could any one tell me where to buy pen kits in bulk that are cheap in Australia
awesome
The white is caused by air being trapped between the blank and barrel. The idea of painting the inside of the blank is worth the experiment.
Make a pen blank from pens that is used to make a pen for maximum penception.
You said you were sorry while you were smiling (questionable sincerity). But you're forgiven anyway. lol We want more.
Could you make a cane out of pencils
Just watched this today .. 12/11/23 , ya I know 6 years later.
It’s really cool but I don’t think the match sticks go very well with the bullet/rifle theme of the pen. Still really cool though
Why even have to glue it to the barrel let it spin free since the pen is pressed together?
Can u do a work shop tour for 50k please
what is wrong with the white
contrast my new friend
👍👍👍👍👍
Crafty blank
I like it. Qwerky pen!
Heather Kiser thanks heather , have a great weekend
pst.... could you do a pen without a barrel?
How much?
OOOHBILLY on my site buddy www.nzwoodturning.co.uk 👍🏽
One million dollars!!!!!!
What narrative is this making? "The Pen(cil) is mightier than the Gun?" ...not sure. Anyway, good bit of turning.
