I am Slovenian and here you can see the trenches and the blown up mountains to this day. It's astonishing to know that a mountain was lowered by 20 meters due to explosions.
Finding unexploded grenades is also still very common and barbed wire is still in place where it was put up by soldiers more than 100 years ago.
Great video
Just doing research on Google Earth I was surprised finding trenches all over the former front which looked like they could have been dug ten years ago. It’s crazy how well preserved things are on that front. I visited a trench in Belgium years ago and it was barely still there
@@fullworldmap yep, that high up there's not enough dirt for any kind of erosion to occur, so everything is preserved. I remember when I went to the museum in Kobarid, they showed us still intact artillery positions dug into the cliffsides. It's terrifying to think that the italians got the most of our fire in those valleys while their own gas was turning on them due to how the wind blows there.
Thanks for the informatiom
im also slovene but live on the wrong side of the country so i don't see it
My girlfriend's great-grandfather lived in Udine, fought in the Alps, had a milk/dairy factory, was so upset by the war that he fled Italy and came to Brazil, never spoke about the war, was psychologically shaken his entire life and died young.
I wish I had the opportunity to talk to him in the past, at least to give him a hug.
His last name was Coppeti
Awesome narration and what a wonderful way to show battle progress, as like the edges of a burning paper, its beautiful.
This is honestly astonishing that something this high in quality gets so little views, but I hope you continue to make these and that you'll eventually get the attention you deserve.
Reason? It's about a country that is rarely, if not, non talked when the world wars or the last century came into an argument.
Great!
Im italian and i love this!
The italian front is very underrated, many people made fun of Italiy for making very small advances, and many battles on the Isonzo.
You should consider that they were fighting on the highest Mountains of Europe, and during the Great War, advancing there was almost impossible.
And don't forget that many italians and Austrians died.
The italians during ww1, did very good.
They took Gorizia, and they almost took Trieste, and the Austrian army almost collapsed, so they called the germans, and they pushed the italians to the Piave River, and they almost took Venice.
The italians fought very hard, on the Piave river, and at Monte Grappa, untip the end, and they managed to completely destroy the austrian army At Vittorio Veneto.
All of this sacrifices, only to get only a small part of territories promised( they promised Dalmazia and Albania)
AVANTI SAVOIA, VIVA IL RE, VIVA L'ITALIA!
it was all about incompetent leadership. Cadorna slaughtered hundreds of thousand of italians in vain frontal assaults
Italy wasn't able to beat Austria's armies even when they weren't fighting on mountains, and Austria's army kinda was disorganized and under supplied so...
Lol you are just a bunch of traitors trying to steal land, dont be proud of yourself
@@Spamcan199-j5l well, on the isonzo river, there were many forts and mines.
Italy’s only advance in the whole war was backwards then Austria collapsed with Germany and Italy claimed victory on the behalf of France, UK, and US.
This was an amazing video to watch.
The visuals continue to get better, and I love how you've now included the individual positions that each army had. So far, the quality of the map animation, narration, and historical events have been unbelievably top-notch and way ahead of any other mapping channel I've seen.
Congratulations to all of those who worked on this video, it came out even better than I expected!
On a personal note, I also am astonished by the pure brutality of this part of the war. I was pretty unaware of how severe the weather conditions were, how inhumane many of the strategies the Austrians and Italians employed as a result of it. Of course, the quality of the video illustrated the situation far better than any of my history textbooks from school could have.
“I am an officer with all my body and soul, but I do not see how anyone who sees his dearest relations leaving for the front can love war.” - Blessed Karl of Austria.
I'm a young American man, and have a lot to fear, with every country falling apart at the seams. But, I can rest with some comfort, certain me and my sons will never have to see anything like WWI.
Children of Fatima, pray for us.
The next war won’t be like WW1. It might be worse than WW1.
Alright no, this is literally higher quality than most TV Shows or movies i've ever seen. Also may i ask how many people are working on this project?
Thanks wuhduwduiu! I wasn’t so keen on this one so I’m glad you think it turned out well. It’s just me at the moment working on the project
@@fullworldmap You being able to make a video this good in one month alone is astonishing. This has to be one of the more interesting videos though, seeing how many people died in a front where you could presume there wouldn't be too much fighting, then seeing it's rather from the impossibility of living instead of combat itself that most died.
Your video quality is so good. Watched the entire western front video nonstop and now i get to watch this. These videos are really well made, relaxing, and deserve more exposure
This is insanely detailed and so human, compared to the other maps with cold hard figures. For once youtube recommendations are good!
Incredible quality. How is this not more popular?
This type of mapping style is so interesting to watch. It's something new and I am all for it!
Nice you added casualties :D
or I guess D: because its still people dying
People dont realise how catastrophic war is, 3 milion people died and the front barely moved, the soldiers there died for nothing...
Your point still stands but by the way, casualties aren't the same as killed. It's just killed and wounded and can be counted multiple times for the same person eg if someone is wounded, recovers and returns to the fight then is wounded again that counts as 2 casualties
@redmonkey_1756 casualties also includes POWs and sick leaves.
@@Maperator yes true
The italian killed and wounded in the battle of Caporetto were around 40k (that was a common number in the battle on the Isonzo river) Germany and Austria lose 50k between wounded and killed, but there were 265k prisoners and more than 300k soldier start returning to their home thinking the war was over. After that italian chief of the army Luigi Cadorna accused italian soldier to give up without fighting. The truth is that italian generals know exactly what was arriving but didn’t organize the army well enough to defend themself from the germans.
Great work
This is the best edition i never seen
I must cry at the end ...
Better than every Movie, perfect Video.
This needs more views
This quality is incredible, well done
I also wanted to say that this kind of mapping deserves at least 100k subscribers
Fantastic
As always
Incredible video. You're truly one of the greatest mappers I've ever seen and the narration and music only enriches the video even more and gives it an surrealist atmosphere.
Yes yes yes and yes, this is The stuff!
Just watching the populations particularly Austria's drop by 10,000s+ in matters of days is insane.
this is some gourmet shit, keep up the good work!
Keep the work!
All great mappers start with low wiews!
W Video
wow great video
Love it as always, severely underrated
SERBIA+MACEDONIA NEXT! AMAZING JOB
I don’t know what to say, great videos as always, you keep evolving day by day which is amazing. Keep delighting us with this content! 🎉
It’s terrifying seeing the Austrian population decrease by 10,000+ a day. It’s just sad that something similar would happen a couple decades later
Incredible job man!
Great video, absolutly love that! But for some reason the frontlines and the "burning paper" effect look very blury when compared to your previous video. Is that because of the map being much more zoomed-in?
I believe the blurriness is due to a compositing error. I will have it fixed for the next one
Your contents are always underrated 😢🔥🔥🔥
Outstanding video...I adore your commentary and the ambience of everything...it gives such emotion.
Incredible video! I Have rarely seen such good content on here :)
Bro this is the best map video I have ever seen yet it has very small views
Great work man 👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥
I like the narration it makes the video much better, I hope you can continue it for the following videos. Thank you
Where did you take the information that Italy joned on the basis of an easy and quick victory form? The rest of Europe was fignting since one year already, and the swift attacks had already been replaced by trenches. No one would have believed by then that there was the slightest possibility of a quick and easy land grabbing. The truth is, "irredentismo" was a strong thing among the italian intelligentia: there were perceived italian homelands still unclaimed, since the past 3 wars of independece fought against Austria, less than 60 years before. The truth is, no matter the cost, sooner or later the unified Italian people would have fought again for those lands against the Austrians. WWI was seen infact by many as the fourth war of independence. The Triple Alliance was a defensive pact, held in place in the fear of French and British imperialism in the late 1800's. Now, with all of Europe set on fire, it was just the moment the nation was waiting for since more than half a century to finish the job.
And it was no easy job to drag the country into war. The nation was politically thorn apart among those standing for the fight and those standing for neutrality. The possibility of the country entering the war was in reality lower than that of the staying in the status quo until the very last moments prior to the declaration. It was not a decision taken that easily. The lack of equipment was evident, ther are plenty of reports which say many generals discouraged the attack, after all the country was just in its early stage of industrialization, no heavy war industries were available. But such an "opportunity" could not present itself for another 50 years.
And mind you, it was set to be mostly an uttack uphill, climbing steep mountains under heavy fire. And everybody knew that. The Alpini corp was a thing for mountain warfare. But it didn't matter, and that's the reason behind the stubborness which lead those foolish italian generals to launch attack after attack hoping that by the power of mere numbers, finally the poor italian soldiers would break through the entrenched Austrians on the high ground. That shows you what the willingness of the italian people to fight can bring, in contrast to WWII where no one felt any rightful reason to fight for the fascist regime. And it showed.
Nerd
@@Spamcan199-j5l yep. you too
Nerd
@@mommi1979 In retrospect it seems clear that the war would drag on for years, but both sides thought it would end soon every year. And unlike France, or Russia or even Britain, Italy got to choose the moment of it’s entry. I think it simply made a miscalculation, like Romania. Even in the scenario that Italy expected the wider war to continue, the declaration of war solely against Austria was done to leave the option open for a separate peace, which would have been ideal for Italy geopolitically
Keep the videos up, I'm sure the views will start to increase over time
@fullworldmap
The thing about Caporetto and the Piave that many in the Entente didn't understand was this:
1) EVERYBODY knew it was coming, even the journalists, but Cadorna brushed it off as "socialist propaganda".
2) From the Piave onwards, what started as a war to gain the last few Italian cities to the Madrepatria changed into a full-blown fight for its survival. Despite the differences, despite the contradictions, ALL of Italy pulled its weight into what became effectively a "4th War of Independence". It was do or die. And we did.
Love this, but i think you missed with the resolution, you can see pixelated effects and infographics.
yes
My graphics card only has 8gb of vram so I have to do some crazy things to make it render anything
@@fullworldmap are you working in AE btw?
This is way too underrated
another amazing video!
Really cool video
What a mapping channel citing sources no way!
"Listen here bud-a , you've got only twp types of garmonzo beans that fight in mountain! Afghans or italians-a!"
Great video!
Very nice work of art
Nice video
Beautiful
The map and animation looks fantastic! The Alpine Front was certainly a nightmare to fight for both Austro-Hungarian and Italian troops. But may I ask, how did Austria-Hungary have such a massive population drop? Sure, the Austro-Hungarian army suffered high casualties while fighting on three fronts (unlike Italy) at once, plus civilians had to suffer from starvation, but I didn't expect the population decline to be that high. But other than that, rest in peace to all the fallen soldiers. 🇦🇹🇭🇺🇮🇹
Good question, you’ve pointed out a major problem which went unnoticed, I will post correct numbers in the video description. Nice channel btw, looks like we share the same interests
@@fullworldmap Thanks for your nice response! And yes, I do some 3D animations.
Underrated
Just one thing, the population of Austria-Hungary seems to be wrong. I found no sources that put it at 59 million in 1915, and it also didn't lose 15 million people throughout the war. This would be 25% of its population!
You are right, my original calculations were messed up. Revised figures are in the video description. The new numbers are:
• 1914 - 52629456
• 1915 - 52539986
• 1916 - 52219492
• 1917 - 51759960
• 1918 - 51128489
• 1919 - 51031345
The figures are estimates extrapolated from the 1910 census since to my knowledge that was the last point of data for total population before the empire collapsed.
Did you hired a narrator or were you blessed with both the voice and skills?
I was blessed by AI, I'm too broke to hire a narrator haha
Nice!
Fantastic, but for me, the terrain is too distracting..overshadowing the gains
Fair point, hopefully that won't be as much of a problem on flatter regions
those Austrian numbers dropping makes me anxious
Epic video bro. Can you made also for macedonian front 1915 to 1918?
I will probably do that. If not a dedicated video then at the very least it will be there when I cover the whole war in Europe
Amazing
3 million soliders in such a small frontline
Il piave mormoró, non passa lo straniero🇮🇹🔥🔥🗿
wow justed sub lets go
Awesome video, can you make one about the balkan front?
It’s certainly possible
Background music theme name.?
I am waiting for the Eastern Front
You should have more subscribers
Probably the worst front to fight on during the Great War
You should make a video on the collapse of AH and the Russo-polish wars
how did you make this?
❤❤
I numeri sono un po esagerati l'italia perse "solo" 1,5 milioni di uomini e penso che anche il resto sia sbagliato
how long until your eastern front remaster
About 5 weeks
@@fullworldmaphow long until full europe map ww1?
First here!! :D
Liar
We need a vid about Ukraine (2022)
I would rather not do anything around that conflict until it’s over
