  • In today's video we test the stock 420cc Predator and the stock 459cc Max Performance Predator Engines from Harbor Freight. I show how to properly install a 40 series cvt / torque converter rated for 8hp-18hp engines on a go-kart. Then we put the two engines onto the blueberry go kart and take them for top speeds, 0-30 mph, and timed track laps.

Throw a 34mm mikuni and header with a little stiffer valve springs and you will be happy. The carb alone even without a header makes a huge difference in power

Note the Yellow spring on the rear driven pulley. if it inward facing it would be a red spring. They usually come with red springs but tend to have more clearance when run this way outward. Not an issue with the kit but I have always made my own jackshaft holder for the rear driven because i am cheap lol. Its a pain. and tensioning the belt vs the chain is a pain too the cheap way. always needed a chain tensioner which makes more noise and places to fail and they do.

When you went up the road and it hit the governor. I would say, it was where the cvt didn't push the belt up quick enough so it was in its lower gear for pulling off thn hit the governor and that split second the belt did it's thing and "changed gear" moved from small on the engine to moving up to change gears and gets smaller on the other end for top speed. On a scooter it has rollers in the variator pully on the engine and you can change the weight of thm witch will change whn it starts moving the belt so you're able to keep it at an rpm where the power band is for full power💯💯💯👍👍👍👌👌

At the very least, if you're trying to cut down on wind noise while recording, for the go pro, they make a simple foam housing that does a pretty solid job of cutting down on wind noise. Or if you're handy with foam carving, you can make your own for cheap. It's not one of those items that go pro really advertises, but it's worth trying out

Been working ok for me, have heard some are saying their mud motor setups with the same engine are bogging down. Is there any performance upgrades you recommend. Anything you would not do? I know for my purpose do not disconnect the Low Engine oil sensor. Thanks

Hello i recently purchased a used honda clone that i assume was a race kart engine. When i went to adjust the valve lash i noticed the springs were bigger and longer than stock and painted yellow. What kind of springs are these? I also noticed that the cam had a very light duration to the lobes with numbers etched on the side. The numbers are 10-5-104 in big numbers. Does anyone know what these numbers mean? Is this like a box stock cheater cam? Any info would help. Thanks!

I have a Briggs and Stratton engine on a go kart I think it’s 10hp not really sure but I’ve been trying to get it fixed it has a stuck valve I need to fix and it should be running after I get that fixed. My grandpa gave it to me and he said it was a fast go kart so I’m hoping it runs well

I picked the 459cc up to replace a 420 in a Yamaha G2. I'm still looking for an exhaust flange so I can weld up a new header. It's 1-1/2 ID and I think the bolt a 2-3/8 center to center. Does anyone know where we can buy that from? You can get 1-1/2 "OD header pipe from Amazon, but the header flange is the mystery. I also can't fist the aftermarket OMB type air filter upgrade on because it's too close to the frame. Is there a way to come off of that 62mm piece with a close 90 deg and then go to the filter. I ride on a very dusty roads and it killed my 420. Is there a flat air box available for these engines? Thanks RB!

From someone who hurt their back lifting something heavy while bending over, young and didn't think, get your self an engine lift or something like that to put those engines into those frames. I was working as a hod carrier and reached over and picked up two bags of cement at 94lbs per bag and my back has never been the same. I was 20 years old at the time and strong as hell, I weighed 154lbs and could pick up 4 five gallon buckets of mortar and carry them. I started working as a hod carrier for my dad at around 10 and nobody taught me how to properly lift nor stressed the importance of lifting properly. Still at the end of the day it was my decision to move those two bags at once instead of doing it one at a time. Either way I deal with daily back pain now so be smart and be careful with your back.
