Very good video. Have you read more of Du Maurier’s short stories? She is amazing as a weird fiction author.

I haven't! I've only read this and Rebecca so far but I love her writing and definitely want to read more. What are some of your favorite short stories of hers?

@@WhytheBookWins The Apple Tree, Don’t Look Now and Monte Verità. Very subtle horror, like the one that defines Algernon Blackwood, Robert Aickman and Shirley Jackson.

The Birds was pretty much one of the first killer animal movies. The killer animal genre exploded in the 70s thanks to Jaws. I’ve heard of Marnie but haven’t seen it. Sean Connery is also in it. It was around that time when he was trying to break away from James Bond. Is it any good?

I saw it years ago and just remember she shoots a horse in it and it deals with sexual assault. I will most likely be covering it in July or August.

I liked the movie High Anxiety. The birds is okay. Not bad not good. Just in the middle. Not sure if you knew this. Hitchcock saw High Anxiety at a private screening. At the end got up and walked out without saying anything. Mel Brooks feared he hated the movie. Only later to get a case of wine and Hitchcock declared the film "Splendid!. (Guess that's why Hitchcock is the master of suspense.) Think you may tackle the original Psycho with Anthony Perkins and Hitchcock? Or the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho and the movie Hitchcock with Anthony Hopkins

Yeah i agree the birds is more middle of the road.
That's a great story! And I tried reading psycho a few years ago but got too creeped out! I've seen the movie though and would love to do an episode on it, so maybe I'll give the book another shot sometime

Tippi hedren did a great job in the film it's horrible what alfred Hitchcock did to her career while shooting Marnie he sexually harassed her and when she refused his attempts he blackballed her
