I think of his version of the "Freaky Friday" sketch where he plays a failed director reviving a freaky Friday-like show except one that embraced the sexual implications of a father and son switching bodies. I always thought that sketch was interesting because I was like, oh yeah, you kind of so have to make that character single, don't you?

"They just birded a man to death!" is one of the most stupid NOT funny lines ever written. It would be hard to choose, because this whole skit was chock full of breathtakingly stupid NOT funny lines, as if written by high school interns. Pathetic - the skit and anyone who actually laughed.
@@alevine1951 I might not have laughed, but i certainly grinned. BTW, Tippi spurned Hitchcock's advances on her and he vowed that she would never work in Hollywook again. And she didn't for at least as long as he was alive.

Oh no, best ever is said way, way, way too much. Granted the bird with a gun or a glass cutter is cartoon funny...but not best ever.

Big on budget, low on laughs. About as funny as cot death.
SNL began as insanity. You had a ton of junkies on the verge of death and the network gave them a playground.

@@Monterey96 I made the mistake of assuming this would be funny before watching it. Against my better judgement. This is a pretty easy film to send up. Unless you're SNL.
VERY occasionally SNL is funny, like the Dead Poets Society parody, but most of the time it disappoints.
SNL doesn't get broadcast in this country. But TH-cam keeps suggesting it, and sometimes I get shown it by other people.

The way Kate McKinnon runs into the phone booth at the beginning and the lighting and camera angles and all are actually very cinematic. Music and all. It's wonderful to watch.
As Beck comes up, turtle on head, squeezing the life out of him, bread on face, attacking him.

The single flying turtle sold it for me
I own a tortoise. I can confirm their trickery. Mine almost set fire to my living room. He figured out how to use his lamp as a catapult. He also somehow got the dog and the cats to bring him extra blankets and tuck him in at night.
Kate rarely breaks, but that bird hand cutting the glass was too much. Yes, I said hand, because look at it.
Kate really is one of the greatest in SNL history and this skit is so absurdly hilarious.

They are right about The Birds having no reason to attack the people and people who study movies come up with their own theories about why.
@@canaisyoung3601 In the original story it was pretty much just an allegory for The Blitz. Otherwise du Maurier never explained anything, either. Just "a change in the weather," and they attack every high tide.
Is John's line a reference to Vertigo? At least it reminds me of the ocean cliff scene there. :)

I noticed the color of the suit & the hair but I did NOT notice the nails! You're right! And I should've noticed. I remember liking Tippi's perfect manicure when I watched The Birds as a kid. It may have been an influence on me because I've always kept my nails done (& polished). Can't believe I didn't catch that. Glad you pointed it out!💅💙

The Piers in San Fransisco. They actually knocked my brother in laws sourdough clam chowder, fought in the middle of street until the strongest isolated the largest piece for itself.

Apparently the reason it's mostly defunct is because it was largely only done by people in old movies who went to the same drama schools.

The Birds actually was the model for zombie movies (sudden attack on civilization by unexpected turn in natural forces, people barricade themselves in house, etc.). Psycho was the first pre-Meyers Halloween slasher film, North by Northwest model for dapper James Bond thrillers. Hitchcock really was a visionary.
I read your comment and thought uhh... Night of the Living Dead was the model for zombie films, what is this guy talking about?! Then I checked the dates and The Birds was released five years before NotLD and based on a 1952 book. So shame on me and your point has really made me think, thanks.

Cuz that movie (from what I can tell by the plot, so correct me if I'm wrong) looks like it's about 1 zombie being brought back, but this person was talking about the movies where it's like huge hordes of them coming at people. You know what I mean? Like that was the first zombie movie, but the movie that inspired the idea of "lock yourselves inside, there's a lot of birds/zombies outside killing people" was The Birds
