Talk about stage presence. She has it in spades!!!!! She is called the Queen of scream!! What do you think??? What a talent?????
7/8 and then 3/4. The transition makes the verse change gears for the chorus. She's using mostly false chord engagement for the growls. The false chords sit above the actual vocal chords and extend over them when you swallow to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn the technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sound. You can think you are using the false chords but you are actually using the vocal chords when doing this which can damage the voice. The bass technique is tapping. It doesn't have the same attack as a pick. Much softer rounder tone. They are an excellent band live. You pretty much can't go wrong with any of the official live videos. A few suggestions would be Outlander Live at Loudfest, Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv (she goes about as low as it gets there. it's a dark song so she goes dark), Captain Clock Live at Resurrection Fest, Cloud Factory Official Live, Who is Gonna be the One Live and Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal. Their songs Teacher Teacher, Home Back and I Speak Astronomy have some crazy time signature stuff.
The interlude before the chorus switches to 4/4, and the chorus sticks with it, but it's five measures of 4/4 each time through, which is really weird and why it sound odd.

Just gonna say, this is, by no means, thier best song. It's a great song, and it's beautifully shot in this vid, but they have some REEEAALLY good tracks.

Welcome to the amazing music of these talented musicians, I want to suggest you "Who is gonna be the one" (official live video) Thanks for your reaction !!
They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, the part that was annexed by Russia in 2014. When the current fighting started , the guys were stuck in Kiev, but were eventually allowed to leave, to tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine. Tatiana is not going to hurt her vocal chords doing the growls, because she is not using them. She uses the false vocal folds. Tati is mostly self taught, her harsh vocal influences include Otep and Randy Blythe(Lamb of God). This live session was a redo of an older song to showcase Vlad on drums, as he had joined not long before this. Vlad is classically trained on piano, and self taught on drums. He, Roman(guitar), and Eugene (bass) are all awesome musicians. The guys write the music, and Tati writes most of the lyrics. Pisces , as in the zodiac sign, the symbol being 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, so the key word here is duality. Tati and Eugene are both Pisces, he helped her finish up the lyrics. The usual next step is to see her do it live, with either Perennial at Wacken 2019, or Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev. "The minor key we're in feels comforting. It's like a warm hug, with spikes in it. It feels good." That is SUCH a beautiful statement, thank you for that. the original version of this song was written on bass guitar - this song is actually still considered by the band to be unfinished... the entire ending changed to what it is now while recording it for the album. used to be an entirely different ending, different tempo and key
Yeah yeah you nailed it with trying to dissect the tapping eugene was doing! Hes playing the low bass line by just hammering on with his left hand and accompanying himself and the other guitar melody in the higher registers of the bass with his right hand tapping. Cool to see you go through that realization!
This band is so good and one of my favorites hope you check out more. They're great live too! The time signatures def keep you on your toes, the whole band is amazing!

8:05 - I'd call it two-hand arpeggiation: he's playing 3 notes in each chord but since the 2nd and 3rd notes are too far away on the scale from the 1st note he has to use both hands. 🙂 12:35 - That diminished scale Tatiana did here shows the influence of eastern music in Ukraine's culture. If you listen to their traditional music you can clearly hear that. Despite pointing out western singers and music styles as her main influences (Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, Hip Hop, R'n'B, Rock and Metal, among others), I'm sure the ukrainian and russian folk traditions were part of Tatiana's upbringing. So much so that in the Perennial OMV she appears dressed in traditional clothes.
Yes to the arpeggiation. It's tapping, as she intuited right away. In this case the bass notes (roots) are being held down by the left hand. The right hand adds not only scale degrees, but also rhythmic complexity. It's a bit like playing drums and bass simultaneously. Check out Billy Sheehan (Talas, David Lee Roth, Mr Big, Winery Dogs) for some of the most outrageous bass tapping. Eddie Van Halen popularized the technique. There's an instrument called the Chapman Stick that's all about tapping with both hands, almost like playing piano on guitar/bass strings. It combines techniques of guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion. Check it out!
Frist, love the way you paused to point to portions of the song. Secondly, your comprehension of her singing and the other musicians (which is not usually mentioned in other reviews) is greatly appreciated. Finally, it is your joy that did for me. I subscribed. Brilliant reaction and review.
LOL, calls tapping tapping "I don't know what it is" that was super cute.💚 as was the immediate excitement at Tati's growls. I love watch8ng people fall in love with this band.
Oh shit, a fellow flautist? Ok, *former* in my case. I still *have* a flute and a busted piccolo, but hardly touch em. -Subbed-😅 oh oh oh! Be'lakor has a song with flute!!! A Natural Apostasy! Be'lakor is my favorite band (the tiniest fraction above Jinjer & Unleash the Archers). Highly reccommend.
Perennial (live at Wacken) and Teacher Teacher (official video) is usually the followups. I speak Astronomy and Judgement and Punishment (one take vocal) are also good.. as most of their stuff Vortex also... and more..
Best Pisces reaction in a long time ... I've seen so many others look stupid, act stupid, speak stupid. But you feel it 😆 I wonder how many chills and goosebumps you got. I've been following Jinjer since 2019, I've watched about 80% of the over 1000 reactions here in youtube. And I've seen Jinjer 3 times live. They are just different, a star at the metal sky which gets darker and darker .... 2023 was so poor... many new bands, but each of them copying anybody else or told by the industry how to sound. Jinjer doesn't care and if covid hadn't come, they surely would be co-headlining the great festivals ... so they had to go the long way ... but I hope they reach the peak one day. You surely have a new fan ❤🤘
Lol if u r an odd time sig nerd, jinjer is a never ending rabbit hole of anti 4/4 stuff 😂😂.....Jinjer is ukrainian proggy djent groove metal with complex time-signature maze, polyrhythms and multi-genre blending. They are one of the most talented 4-pieces ever. Tati is one of the best overall metal vocalists and lyricists in the business. Jinjer - Pisces (Live Session) Jinjer - Perennial (Live At Wacken 2019) Jinjer - Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev) Jinjer - On The Top (Live in Kiev) Jinjer - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Official Live) Jinjer - Judgement & Punishment (Tatiana One Take Vocal) Jinjer - Teacher Teacher (Official Video) Jinjer - Captain Clock (Live at Resurrection Fest 2018) Jinjer - Cloud Factory (Official Video) Jinjer - Outlander (failure .color Video) Jinjer - No Hoard of Value (Official Lyrics Video) Jinjer - I Speak Astronomy (Official Video) Jinjer - Vortex (Official Video) Jinjer - Wallflower (Official Video) Jinjer - Mediator (Official Video) Jinjer - Disclosure (Official Video) Jinjer - Call Me A Symbol (Official Video) Jinjer - Live At Wacken 2023
Tapping on your Bass is a Technique Van Halen invented on Guitar. Bass Players use it, too in these days. Or just call it Hammer ons in fast playing, Hammer ons and off is a Technique used by Guitarplayers. Bassplayers used that later....it works. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the introduction to this hybrid beast. This is what happens when skilled musicians actually make music. You might say that is what all "music" is but it ain't necessarily so. Also a day without NittPicc is like night.
Jinjer is big into jazz fusion. They love incorporating jazz elements into their music. They'll do things like drop a straight up bossa nova breakdown into the middle of a harsh metal song. They'll use reggae, Latin, big band, and all sorts of other genres as the framework to build their metal songs. They're quite unique.
Hahaha, love your enthousiasm. Believe it or not, still at least 20 high level tracks and performances to go. Jinjer is not a one day fly, they are frontrunners in their genre and beyond. Have lots of fun.
Love your reaction - watching you immediately start counting it out from the start was like, hello, here comes some genuine intrigue & insight :) Easily my favourite discovery of the last decade when it comes to heavy. metalcore as their base, with a good dollop of prog, groove, fusion and jazz. The boys draft out and record all of the compositions first, then pass to Tati for her to figure out how to work her lyrics and vocal magic in. Similar to a few other bands in this respect, including Tool - and like Maynard from Tool, Tati is an extreme introvert, not that you'd ever know when you see her perform on stage! Every member of the band pulls their weight - if you decide to dive down the rabbit hole I doubt you'll be disappointed. Roman (guitarist) is the one people seem to least gush about, but he's quickly become a huge inspiration in my own guitar playing.
Loved your reaction! Yes this band is fire! Perennial live at Wacken, Judgment&Punishment, Teacher Teacher, Vortex, I Speak Astronomy, ….i could go on and on
The time signature varies a bit but is dominantly 7/8 timing; as there’s a lot of classical training (piano) by the drummer he makes it feel easy, there’s a strong jazz influence on the song. Yeah Tatiana is a vocal beast plus an amazing lyricist, also a Pisces - which is what the song is about, duality; just like her personality, on stage she’s a monster, away from it she’s quite shy and retiring. The Bass style includes ‘tapping’ which is done by tapping down from a fretted note with the fingers usually plucking the strings. Great reaction, another Tatiana fangirl as usual! 🌹 Hmm, maybe you would like a band called The Warning, they’re very good musically - 3 sisters all classically trained on piano but formed a band in 2013/4, their cover of Enter Sandman (they were 9, 12 and 14) went viral, 25 million+ views, and they’ve come a long way since then! 1 EP, 2 singles and 3 (soon to be 4) albums all of songs of their own composition. They are the only band from Mexico to get signed to a major American label (Lava records), they sing predominantly in English but have done 2 songs in Spanish. Their latest single is called S!CK you will find a link to it in their TH-cam channel!
Eugene Kostyuk is the bassist and he uses several different techniques, but on this song he uses a two hand tapping technique. He has a bass play through of this song on TH-cam.
I jumped into this rabbit hole years ago and I never tried to get out. Tati is an absolute freak of nature and so beautiful too. Other than Angelina Jordan, there is no woman on the planet that can get you "hyped" or emotional than this woman right here.
Believe it or not, the chorus is in 4/4. It's one of the trickiest 4/4's I've ever heard. Great reaction! You've been Jinjered! I discovered them about a year and a half ago and they quickly became my favorite band. As a professional bassist/singer for 45 years now, they tick every box for me. Great musicians, great songs, great band. They're working on a new album right now, after finishing up a massive dual tour, opening for Disturbed and headlining their own shows in between Disturbed dates. This is a band that must be seen live! I strongly recommend you grab tickets as soon as they become available for any shows they announce for 2024, especially headlining shows. They need more than 30 minutes onstage, and few bands can hold their own headlining over them. If you're anywhere near Milwaukee, Wisconsin or Las Vegas, they have announced two makeup shows in April 2024 for shows that had to be canceled in 2023. Both headlining shows. They've said the album will drop this year, and that they'll be out and about touring. So far those are the only North American dates announced.
Love watching people react to this lol, as a flutist you have to react to jethro tull locomotive breath , the live version or almost any of the their songs, you'll love it lol
I started doing fry vocals back in elementary school. In the 1980s. I was trying to make dinosaur noises. Blew my mind when I first heard Napalm Death in 1988.
I really liked your reaction. I'd love to see how you react to Who's Gonna Be The One Live and Perennial Live at Wacken, that one is my favorite, because it's the last song of their set and while they're performing, they sound fresh AF!
After jinger that was cool. There's allot cool music out there. Too many for me to say. But if you ask me.. My favorite band Blue October for so many reasons. Happy Valentine's Day 😎🤘
The verses are in 7/8, they flip into 6/8 for the pre-chorus, then back to 7/8 for the chorus, then from the quiet bit after the second chorus onwards it's in 6/8 again. Their most progressive track is I Speak Astronomy, which has four different time signatures in the first minute and a killer, mind-bending riff in the verses.
For your peace of mind, the verse is in 7/4, the prechorus is in 4/4, and the chorus is in 4/4 but repeats after 5 bars. The bridge is in 4/4 and the outro is in 3/4. Truly impressive how smooth all of the parts flow into each other.
Great reaction. Love your enthusiasm. ❤❤👍 Jinjer consider themselves in the realm of Groove-Metal but they are very good at incorporating all kinds of different styles of music. Have you ever listend to Reggae-Metal? If not try JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) (Official Video) | Napalm Records 😊
I grew up on Soundgarden, so I know 7/8 immediately!... it's a shame more folk don't make use of interesting time sigs. Always nice to see someone properly appreciate Eugene's both-hands-always-busy-yet-always-in-service-to-the-piece bass work. :) Vlad on the drums here is a classically trained pianist to trade, so I'm guessing high-IQ & easily bored, hence the syncopation & playing-with-time that just seems to fall out of him! Totally agree with you about that point where Tatiana drops the flat5 is a super interesting ear-tickle. The fact that she composes her lyrics & melodies/harmonies over finished demos of the lads' sometimes *very* technically challenging music, with lots of timing changes, syncopation, sometimes thru-composed (listen to their "Vortex" sometime).... I don't think she gets enough credit for her compositional work. And very few guitarists can riff like Roman with all sorts of interesting diminished, harmonic minor, etc going on. In fact, they are like a supergroup imho, with each member having so much skill, but without baggage of having been in other famous bands previously!! :)
Some others to check out, Perennial - Live at Wacken (pronounced Vahken), Who's Gonna Be the One official live, Judgement (& Punishment) One take vocal performance
You are going to enjoy your Jinjer journey. If you're looking for utter chaos musically.and to discover the depths of Tati's growl check out Home Back or Vortex. Home Back is about the band being forced from their home in Donetsk Ukraine after Russia initially invaded back in 2014. Vortex is a bit more personal to Tatiana sounding anxiety.
Priceless reaction one of the best by far. Do take the time to check out their lyrics they are close to poetry. And tatiana the the singer (tati) writes them herself. They are live just as good so whatever you choose next you can,t go wrong. Welcome to jinjer enjoy!
The meter for the song makes you feel like your on water. Like rocking on a boat or riding a wave. Huh. Pisces. And the bassist was transitioning walking and tapping. They are so versatile. And you just got Jinjered. Welcome aboard.
Nice to see people react to this song that genuinely get excited. Perennial live at Wacken should be your next go to, then pick and choose from there. Great band, though I wasn’t as big of a fan of their newest album. Some people really like it, it’s just not for me. Saw them in October 2019. Unfortunately for me was the last show I’ve been able to attend, though it was a good one.
Hey there Teach. You will love this one! Keep in mind that English is NOT her primary language! Another lady who wants to learn how to do this is Christina Russo, an opera singer. She is a mezzo-soprano with a Master's in music from Binghamton University. Please locate her video and you two can learn this together!! Your students would loss their minds if you did this!! But it would expand their understanding and appreciation of music. when she gets to the solo part at 13:something Christina said now she is just showing off! All I can say is "If you've got it, use it!" Do it!!!!!! Please!!!!...........
another vocal queen, eivør pálsdóttir. the last kingdom main theme or falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn, i don't know any better artist. she is classically trained sopran and owns a masters degree in traditional nordic vocal techniques
I saw them live here in Chile in 2018...a truly experience...Tatiana is amazing...the stage presence is unique...recommendatios,: Perennial live, Who is gonna be the one live, Captain clock live
Eugene is finger tapping notes on the bass with his right to hit notes that are out of reach of his left fretting hand that's already fretting other notes because they're too far away and the hand is only so big. Guitarists do this a lot, it's rarer to see a bassist do this, but it still happens. Jinjer also used to have a second guitarist. After he left, Eugene started writing bass parts that filled out the arrangement more to fill in some of the space the former guitar occupied. They also dropped the guitar and bass tunings from drop C to drop A when there was just the two of them.
What is your favorite meal or dish?
Holzfaller schnitzel. Hell, any schnitzel....of course, Ich bin Deutsche!
Jinjer Soup. Keep slurplin' I always say teacher teacher 2nd Perennial live 3rd. Then Home Back music video if you need a good cry.
I have simple taste, i enjoy hamburger or steak with pepper sauce
Penang Assam Laksa. Seems like hardly anyone gets it quite right, but when it happens ...
Pizza...breakfast, lunch, dinner...and you may say that would get old really fast...but I make all sorts of flavors of pizza!😋

I count 7/8 in the riff then 3/4 and the 4/4 in the prechorus but y miss in the chorus
The technique Eugene is using is called fretboard tapping, or simply tapping.
Think Eddie Van Halen.
Or Billy Sheehan.
I think some folk call it 'Hammer-On' also
And the effect it has on the sound is that it softens the attack of the notes.
@@theidajawho well, a hammer-on is done with one hand, not two.

Please do more Jinjer soon. This barely scratches the surface of their capabilities. They are amazing live too! See: Perennial Live Wacken...
With that tapping on the bass he's producing notes with both hands--like a piano player does.
They are stellar musicians. Masters of their craft.
Lololol its the absolutely genuine "YAAAAS" for me
It always makes my day when I find a new reaction video for this song.

The Bassist technique is an octave tap. He's playing two chord scales an octave apart to create a chorus effect. He's super skilled in this song.
They made this video to showcase the drummer and it went crazy - the musicians are as amazing as her voice is
Love your reaction to Jinjer. Love the band.

8:05 - I'd call it two-hand arpeggiation: he's playing 3 notes in each chord but since the 2nd and 3rd notes are too far away on the scale from the 1st note he has to use both hands. 🙂
12:35 - That diminished scale Tatiana did here shows the influence of eastern music in Ukraine's culture.
@@ericpeterson7512 - I'm fully aware of the existence of the Chapman Stick and how it works, thank you.
Highly reccommend.
...and because you're a former flutist, I'm adding these groups to my reaction lists. 😉
They sound just as good live in concert too.
Perennial (live at Wacken) and Teacher Teacher (official video) is usually the followups.
I speak Astronomy and Judgement and Punishment (one take vocal) are also good.. as most of their stuff
Vortex also... and more..
lo feliz que te hizo escuchar esta canción, y lo contagiosa que es tu felicidad, me alegraste la noche :D
C heck out "Perrenial" live at Waken. 14:41

Tapping on your Bass is a Technique Van Halen invented on Guitar. Bass Players use it, too in these days. Or just call it Hammer ons in fast playing, Hammer ons and off is a Technique used by Guitarplayers. Bassplayers used that later....it works. 🙂
Funniest video to see firsttimers react to.
I've seen this video countless times and Tatiana's "third" voice gets me every time.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the introduction to this hybrid beast. This is what happens when skilled musicians actually make music. You might say that is what all "music" is but it ain't necessarily so. Also a day without NittPicc is like night.
You're awesome! This was an obvious sub.
More Jinjer, please! You'll get lots of recommendations.
When Jinjer tours near you please go to the show! They are even better live!!
Hahaha, love your enthousiasm. Believe it or not, still at least 20 high level tracks and performances to go. Jinjer is not a one day fly, they are frontrunners in their genre and beyond. Have lots of fun.
Love your reaction - watching you immediately start counting it out from the start was like, hello, here comes some genuine intrigue & insight :)
Easily my favourite discovery of the last decade when it comes to heavy.
metalcore as their base, with a good dollop of prog, groove, fusion and jazz.
Perennial live at Wacken, Judgment&Punishment, Teacher Teacher, Vortex, I Speak Astronomy, ….i could go on and on
What a great reaction AND analysis! Awesome job! 🤘😎🎶🎶🎶
Hmm, maybe you would like a band called The Warning, they’re very good musically - 3 sisters all classically trained on piano but formed a band in 2013/4, their cover of Enter Sandman (they were 9, 12 and 14) went viral, 25 million+ views, and they’ve come a long way since then!
Great Iron Man collection back there! Respect.
I've seen them live three straight years. Hope to see them again this year. She is even better live!😁
Jinjer is great.
Welcome to the Jinjer rabbit hole. Enjoy the journey. Tatiana is a beast!
The time signature throughout alternates measure by measure from 3/4 to 4/4.
Great Tati
NITT. Your energy in this reaction balanced with you knowledge was outstanding truely ❤
That was my same reaction to her growl💯🤘🤘🤘
After jinger that was cool. There's allot cool music out there. Too many for me to say. But if you ask me.. My favorite band Blue October for so many reasons. Happy Valentine's Day 😎🤘
The verses are in 7/8, they flip into 6/8 for the pre-chorus, then back to 7/8 for the chorus, then from the quiet bit after the second chorus onwards it's in 6/8 again. Their most progressive track is I Speak Astronomy, which has four different time signatures in the first minute and a killer, mind-bending riff in the verses.
you should check out their live stuff
Liked and Subscribed. Let's gooooo
Jinjer consider themselves in the realm of Groove-Metal but they are very good at incorporating all kinds of different styles of music.
Vlad on the drums here is a classically trained pianist to trade, so I'm guessing high-IQ & easily bored, hence the syncopation & playing-with-time that just seems to fall out of him!
Welcome to Jinjer, I hope you continue down this awesome rabbit hole, they have a very deep catalog of amazing songs for you to discover!
Some others to check out, Perennial - Live at Wacken (pronounced Vahken), Who's Gonna Be the One official live, Judgement (& Punishment) One take vocal performance
Such a tight band with such musical chops and emotion emotion emotion ... try Teacher Teacher video and my fav is Pit of Consciousness LIVE
A warm hug with spikes 🥰😈😂
Eugene is simply tapping the bass line and also tapping harmony higher up.
Tatiana is a vocal beast who will rip your lungs out !! Fucking awesome !
😂welcome....best next stop parennial live at wacken 2019 🎉❤golden queen of matal 😊
another vocal queen, eivør pálsdóttir. the last kingdom main theme or falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn, i don't know any better artist. she is classically trained sopran and owns a masters degree in traditional nordic vocal techniques
They also dropped the guitar and bass tunings from drop C to drop A when there was just the two of them.
seeing him do it live is even more impressive
You gotta watch their live clip "Who is gonna be the one" next Tatiana goes Beast mode ,, bass player Eugene goes Beast mode
Reactions like yours are the best, keep looking and you'll find so much more great music!
7/8, yes, but it really flows well for me if you break it into 3/8, then 4/8 and that is how the drumming is played.
Yes. Compound meter, as she noticed right away. It's all about the emphasis.
