Elvis was born dirt poor and never forgot where he came from. Based on stories from family and friends, he was the most generous person they knew. "In the Ghetto" is my favorite song by him, and it's still timeless. You can just feel the emotions in that one.

When he finished crying, he emerged and in his own words said he would never sing another song or act in another movie he did not believe in. Guess what? He never sang that song again which meant it meant nothing to him. 🖕

I am a guy in England, my mother is still obsessed with Elvis at 82!! Her generation got into African American artists because of Elvis, he used to praise them and was very influenced by them. He did a lot of good in the 50's and 60's globally!!!

Hey guys, Glad to see that you are discovering E.P. for the first time. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi at one point he lived in a housing project where only 4 white families lived with the rest being black. He played with the blacks as a child. The called him E.P., dispelling the myth that he was racist. He was once scheduled to do a concert in Texas and they told him that he could leave the black girls at home( meaning The

There's a damn good reason this guy was as big time, as he was. The guys voice was insanely good.
That was Elvis' last No 1 hit - it was released in 1969. If you want to see the most amazing vocals ever -- from a human - look up Elvis "How Great Thou Art" live from 1977 - it's a live performance video. Elvis hits a note that no human could ever do. You have to keep replaying that one note --- just to take it -- it's baffling - that a human could do that note and so powerful.
But IMO there were many great songs after this, In the Ghetto and Burning love both hit number 2 on billboard top 100. And he had LOTS of big selling albums from 1969-77 too. And in the UK he had several number 1 too in that time.
I love when Elvis sings gospel. His version of In the Garden is so soothing and beautiful

The Elvis movie is so good I actually discovered a lot about his life and what he had went through and it was so immersive I wanna watch it again
Elvis was a fantastic singer, who didn't need any gimmicks like Kiss or Alice Cooper to sell records! That whole sequined jump suit,karate moves and giant bent buckle crap was corny, gaudy and ridiculous!! Many don't realize his manager was a thief and took half of everything Elvis earned, he also was an illegal alien so Elvis never toured Europe or anywhere over seas, not once in a 20 year career. The colonel (his manager) was a degenerate gambler and owed Las Vegas casinos millions so the colonel kept Elvis tied to endless gigs in Vegas playing to a bunch of middle aged, middle American women with blue hair. Elvis would have been right up there at the top with all the big performers of the day had he been allowed to tour Overseas and form a modern day type band. Instead he was stuck making those same mediocre movies and playing those same crappy songs!!! Elvis did at one time fire that leech the colonel,formed a new band and was about to tour overseas for the first time.Elvis reconciled with that thief the Colonel and immediately cut Elvis off from all those new deals which would have elevated him back to the top playing rock and roll again. Instead the colonel kept Elvis tied to the throne in order to control the $ ,keep getting his 50% and hide the fact that he was an illegal alien. Elvis relinquished all control of his career to the colonel and it basically killed him !! The colonel had to keep Elvis working and robbing him blind to cover his huge gambling losses!! A real shame cause Elvis could sing country,blues, rockabilly, gospel and many other styles with incredible force and skill. His gospel records are heaven sent!! His diversity in musical genres was like Ray Charles who also excelled in every style he attempted

I remember the exact day, the exact time, when I heard Elvis died. I was 15. When I found out I fell to my knees and cried for days. He was a great man. His loss went global and I can guarantee about 90% of the people remember the exact day, the exact time they found out. It's like a CD burning this into our memory. The people on this planet screamed in pain and cried when he died. The best way to describe his lost on a global scale, if anybody lived on moon they would heard the screams and pain from billions and billions of ppl on Earth. I have never seen any person on this Earth, that can affect an entire planet. Elvis was that person. The people that lived during his time loved and respect him. He was adored!! His loss changed the world. To this day I don't think people ever got over it. He was hard to forget. I was blessed to be born during the time of Elvis Presley. He was a kind and humbled man. He loved everybody and treated everybody equally. I love Elvis and miss him.

I was sitting in my parent's blue station wagon with my sister while our parents were inside the store when the announcement came over the radio. I was 8 years old at that time and still remember how upsetting it was.

But, I'm loving watching, not only these guys, but other TH-cam channels I've been getting into. Experiencing music they didn't grow up with. Hell, Elvis started his career way before my time, and I wasn't even born yet. Plus, many other artists I could mention as well. I just happened to hear and listen to them, from a young age, or in my teens etc. Through Family growing up, people I knew who might have been older than me, etcetc. I love hearing all types of music and always have. That's just how it was and I hope the younger generations and those to come, do the same!

I agree. And late 60s early 70s he hit his prime. His voice range just got better and more broad as he got older. His voice was amazing live.
Suspicious Minds is a great Elvis song,but he recorded that in 1969, late in his career. If you want to hear the true Elvis, you gotta listen to his musical output from 1956-1958: Heartbreak Hotel, Don't Be Curel, Teddy Bear, Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, All Shook Up, to name a few. We were devastated , everyone was crying the whole world stood still for a moment, every tv station had the news that he had died!! You had to be there to truly understand it!

Elvis was born January 8, 1935. He was be 88 if he were still alive today. I fell in love with Elvis when I was 10; he was my first love. That love will never die.
Elvis came from a very poor background, and as a result, he was always kind to people, especially of lower classes. He made himself available to fans, and he was generous to a fault. He was known for gifting personal items to people and fans that complimented him on them, like jewelry, etc, even giving away vehicles to common folk. Elvis was the first entertainment superstar, especially when it came over to crossover talent. And he even went away to Korea drafted to fight for the country at the peak of his fame.
Elvis was “sexual” because of his hip-thrusting while dancing, he sometimes was recorded for live TV only waist up. This performance is late in his career, and if you really want to see why he was “sexual”, do something from when he was younger, or the 1968 comeback special.
He didn't go to Korea, when he was in the Army; he went to Germany.

I was at that concert in Honolulu, Hawaii. To this day, and I’ve seen most of the greats, Elvis was the best of the best. I am still in touch with the other three people who went with him. After the concert Elvis made a huge contribution to the Pearl Harbor fund.

There is a version of him where he's singing this song live in Vegas (it's not an edited video). It is amazing! I highly recommend it. You can see how skilled he was at working the audience.

Michael Jackson loved Elvis. Married his daughter, created never land similar to Elvis in Graceland, the early white socks showing with black pants came from Elvis and frank sinatra. Going on his toes was a similar Elvis move. They were both incredibly into image and mystery. He started out so young that his influences went way back. He used it and created his own style forming a new pop sound.

His earlier songs were so awesome too. In the Ghetto was one of his best as well as the one written for Martin Luther King Jr. If you haven’t heard them you should listen. I feel like the impersonators are a bit on the gimmicky side, but Elvis has a very pure voice that came from inside him and his upbringing. Hugs to all.

@@alameas6358 "Official" means it has been approved for release by the controlling trademark entity. for which in the case of Elvis THAT controlling entity is EPE, whom of which does not release or approve the release of videos on You Tube with Elvis's likeness. THAT is why reactors have so many copy right problems with Elvis videos. In regard to the segmented clip of Elvis's performances from "That's the way it is". those segments (any of them) have not been purposely segmented by the owners of the documentary copyrights. The segments have been Cut and edited out by entities OTHER than the copyright owners. Again there are no Official Elvis videos on TH-cam. (with the exception of the Elvis movie, for which "Warner Brothers" is the official copyright owners)

My Mom sang in a gospel group back in 1940. They had big tent revivals, and she saw Elvis sing when he was only 5 years old. They all remarked that he could sing and would be a star.

@@sarzik2896 Later my family and I moved out to Las Vegas in the late 50's. We saw Elvis film 'Viva Las Vegas', on a sound stage out in front of the Sahara Hotel. We used to see him around town a lot. Once he walked up to my girlfriend while we were in the Aladdin Hotel. We were out having dinner with her mom, and we were only 14 years old at the time. My friend Barbara, was just his type. My friend's mom was all a flutter. We just laughed. Thought it was silly.

It's hard to have 'a favorite' Elvis song, but American Trilogy would be somewhere at the top! Some of my older faves are Bossa Nova Baby and King Creole.

I had the pleasure of seeing Elvis in concert when I was in 1st grade, the year before he died. I still have my ticket stub thanks to my mom for putting it up for me all these years. It’s amazing the impact he had on my life at such a young age. I will never forget the day he died 😢

There’s a documentary about Elvis that you should also watch and it’ll help you know the person. And, if you have not played, if I can dream, then you need to put that video on. It was made two months after MLK’s death here in Memphis, Tennessee, and Elvis was so bothered by it all, he wanted to sing something special for those times (1968). And his lyrics still resonate today. I really think if you knew more about the person himself, y’all would love him as much as we do here in Memphis.

Elvis set the bar! He will always be an icon. He was born in Tupelo Mississippi and started out singing gospel. Very humble, extremely generous and genuine and a heart bigger than Texas. My mom saw Elvis in concert February 1977 in Charlotte. His health was already deteriorating and because of his health he was over an hour late going on stage and could only perform 30 minutes. My mom still says that's the greatest concert she's ever been to. She's still got her ticket and photos she took all in a photo album. Elvis died just a few months after that concert. I actually remember hearing about his death and I was only 5 1/2 then. I was watching TV when the news broke into what i was watching to announce his death. My mom cried. RIP Elvis

I grew up in the 60s and was/am a Beatlemaniac. BUT, my older sisters grew up in the 50s & were Elvis fans through & through. So, I got exposed to Elvis at an early age. Mothers and Grandmothers loved him - because he was loving & good to his mama. He came from dirt poor folks & was generous beyond belief - gifting Cadillacs to strangers. He sang gospel, rock, blues, pop. easy listening, you name it. You need to hear his early hits from the 50s - but my favorite is "If I Can Dream". He is the King of Rock 'n Roll.

Elvis was also in the movies and he would sing in movies as well. He was actually blonde but he dyed his hair black because of a singer that he really looked up to had dark hair, I forget his name at the moment. Check out some videos of him singing in his younger days. He was a beautiful looking man and his voice was amazing, very very unique that’s why so many people still love him today. The video Shown of him this time around is when he is older, has put on some weight and when he was really bad he would forget the words to songs on stage. Due to the drugs he took at the end and could not stop taking. When he was young and first started singing and moving his hips around it was unheard of and they called him Elvis the pelvis. RIP

Y'all need to research Elvis there's so much to this man that it would blow your minds. I was a little girl in the sixties and my dad adored him. He would play his records and record himself singing because my dad had a fantastic voice as well. I got to see him December of 1976 in concert in Denver Colorado just months before he passed.
There is a song by him called "and the grass won't pay no mind." I believe it's under country but as Elvis always said rock and roll, country, rhythm and blues all started through gospel music.
The promised land is another one of his songs that's absolutely fantastic and I think you would enjoy that. He loved to entertain when he was damn good at it.
