I think he has earned his “Metalhead” title after all the years of amazing content he has brought us. And I know he’s been to a fair share of live metal shows since all his exposure ✊🏻
@@liammark96 I wouldn’t say it’s messy. Everything structurally makes sense and is done with intent. They aim for a more chaotic sound. From a technical perspective, Periphery is one of the greatest.
Definitely one of THE MOST well thought out album ever. The fact they start out the album with their most well thought out song, is straight up BEAUTIFUL!
The best part about this is that normally these longer songs close off the album, but in this case, it's the opener to the album so you get hit with this masterpiece right off the bat
When I was in music school, and we were preparing for musical performances and stuff like that, they said that typically, the only songs that people remember are the first song in the set, and the last one. I think it's very important for any musician building an album to keep this in mind.
The whole album is like an hour and 6mins. I used to work as an order picker in a food distribution warehouse and I would use this album as a timer on big orders. The whole thing is awesome. My favorite song is Garden In The Bones.
This track along with Marigold and Habitual Line Stepper are my all time favorite Periphery songs. Rainbow Gravity, Hell Below, Bad Thing are also great.
I'm going to their concert in April and I'm so excited! I literally almost screamed when I saw this video in my notifications. Periphery is my absolute favorite band (and I Prevail, of course) and I'm so happy you're getting into them. They're truly masters of their work.
The deep voice doing the poetic style bit, is Mikey from Sikth. They really started all this type of melodic, almost theatrical metal music. Using multiple music styles and dissonance to create epic music. Periphery's guitarists said they were inspired by Sikth, and many others also. Periphery is my favourite band, but defo check out Sikth.
This was the first song I heard from Periphery, and has been favorite band ever since.... I listened to this album for 3 months straight! Every day. Then, I bought some of their previous albums, and have been very satisfied.
9:45 Just so you know, sway, what you're calling an "octave" is actually called a "key change" and Periphery use them all the time. So happy to see your progression over the years listening to more music, and seeing you recognize things like that in songs!
@@definitelynottigerwhitten5865 basically Misha writes weird chord progressions and Spencer tries to write a melody that fits to make it tie together and sound good
@@definitelynottigerwhitten5865 Well a key change IS a chord change, but it's changing to a chord that isn't in the original key. So if the guitars played a chord that the vocals don't harmonize with, it would sound off. But since the guitars AND vocals change to the same, new key, it sounds "right".
I don't often watch reaction channels, but when I do I love nothing more than seeing someone listening to uncomfortably nasty parts, and watching the face from from shocked to stank to grooving xD

Love this song and the album. Only song of this length I’ve ever heard that is just so utterly compelling and full of hooks from start to finish - whilst also being complex and heavy at the same time
Real talk, now that Chester's gone, I truly think that Spencer is the best thing we have in terms of being able to scream in key and flit back and forth from fry to throat singing, he's fantastic. And for the OGs, we've watched it happen over the years, he's improved so much.
