To be honest, people are deceived by charlatans due to their OWN flimsy beliefs coupled with hedonistic desires which, when combined, make them susceptible to being led astray. Alhamdulillah, after listening to your arguments and refutations, It's clear to me now, how an uninformed layman could fall into their misguidance. One of the problems I have with Zaid Shakir and other "celebrity Imams" is their persistent attempt at mixing their own personal political ideologies with their understanding of the Deen of Allah, and then presenting it as "THIS IS the correct view" of Islam. The sad reality is that many of us, whether we are converts(like myself) or born into Muslim families, have a tendency to bring a lot of our own "baggage", world views, and preconceived notions about things with us on our journey. We then try to make Islam conform to our own understandings and nafs, instead of making our nafs conform to the Deen. The truly dangerous part is when these people appoint themselves as Muslim leaders or allow themselves to be "anointed" as such by certain agenda driven groups, thus leading others astray. May Allah guide and protect us!

As a Muslim, I believe we must only stand for Islam. Any other ideologies are just for our observation and not participation. All of us need to understand Islam and what Allah swt requires of us, not the other way round. A lot of people are using Islam as a label or a tag but not actually practicing or have proper understanding of the deen. These are the liberal muslims or the "cultural" muslims. Anyone with a proper understanding of Islam will not even bother to be part of any other ideology nor would they try to use Islam to justify their own beliefs and nafs. Point to note, I've seen a fair share of cases where someone would carry out a sin or a shirk, announce what they did publicly then mentioned that Allah swt is all forgiving. We are almost at the end of times, if there are those who stil can't see it or try to deny it, better start learning.
I'm seeing that the main type of opposition in the comments and responses to these types of videos go something along the lines of "this is not OUR land" or better yet, "If you don't like it, LEAVE". Subhannallah! The irony of these statements never cease to amuse yet disappoint me. To use that same logic: do we as Muslims, a group with constitutional rights just as other fellow citizens, not have the right to voice our religous beliefs, even when it goes against the belief of others? What gives gay rights advocates any more of an opportunity to publicly vocalize support for their movement than our opportunity to do the opposite? It's a shame seeing these so called "ulamah" take sides with and quietly stand alongside the misguided instead of using their platforms to shame and discourage such haram and immoral behavior. They are afraid to do so, fearing a substantial loss of support from the sheep more than the punishment of their creator. I think the main problem is the lack of trust in Allah. Some believe they have to support fitnah to make the country a better place for Muslim. I'm assuming they just want to "adjust" Islam with the western culture or what they call "civil rights" to minimise the conflict between Islam and The West, hope that people will giving more sympathy for Islam. But guess what? Sounds good, doesn't work. In Indonesia and Malaysia for example, for couple of century many masyaikh and ulama in those two countries have also practicing the same behavior: compromising Islam with pre-islamic-hinduism culture/rituals (which are full of inovations and shirk), expecting more people will accepting Islam with those kind of strategies.. Yes, in fact the Muslim population are became enormous in those two countries. But it was just a quantity.. Now some "proper" ulama having a hard time recovering the corrupted aqidah of the ummah. Consequences.
As someone from one those countries, I can attest. There are shirk that contain in some of our traditional practices that still exists today like bomoh and false prophecies. But Alhamdulillah, after the 70s and 80s more Muslims from the Nusantara became more Islamically conscious and more orthodox than before. Even if a little bit. Now, not only we have to deal with the old bida'ah practices but now with modern liberal infested ones as well.
Same in South Asia. Lots of Bid'ah and Shirk and people deviating. Alhamdulillah the Tablighi Jamaat has played a pivotal role in showing people the Bid'ah and Shirk of these practices and calling them towards Tawheed.

They all seem to be defending that one comment Iman Zaid Shakir made, as to a certain extent it could be down to a very poor choice of words and we all slip up sometimes. However, as Daniel eludes to in his criticism, the comment when corroborated with Imam Zaid Shakir explicit association and endorsement of these haram so called rights actually points towards the fact that it wasn’t a poor choice or words and was intended to say exactly what it did in the spirit it was said. Also I think the actions and public messages on his feeds in supporting Muslims who are advocating for LMNOH+, or whatever they’re called today, rights are actually worse than said comment. I wonder how these ‘allies’ of his would defend the above, oh wait….they do so by not addressing it.

The reason why our classical Imams are such legends is not only because of knowledge or wisdom. They are also legends because they got balls to speak the truth and fight injustice even if it meant to go against the popular opinion or against the rulers even with disregard to their own safety. Imam Abu Hanifa died by torture in prison, because he refused to obey the leader. Ahmad bin hanbal was imprisoned and tortured because he refused to acknowledge the wrong opinions of the rulers. Imam Sarachsi was imprisoned because he criticised the rulers. I don't even understand these modern Imams. They will NEVER be accepted by those of the west and they are alienating them from the ummah. In the end they will die alone by being hated of the people they left and despised by the people they tried to pander.

One of the problems I have with Zaid Shakir and other "celebrity Imams" is their persistent attempt at mixing their own personal political ideologies with their understanding of the Deen of Allah, and then presenting it as "THIS IS the correct view" of Islam. The sad reality is that many of us, whether we are converts(like myself) or born into Muslim families, have a tendency to bring a lot of our own "baggage", world views, and preconceived notions about things with us on our journey. We then try to make Islam conform to our own understandings and nafs, instead of making our nafs conform to the Deen. The truly dangerous part is when these people appoint themselves as Muslim leaders or allow themselves to be "anointed" as such by certain agenda driven groups, thus leading others astray. May Allah guide and protect us!

As a Muslim, I believe we must only stand for Islam. Any other ideologies are just for our observation and not participation. All of us need to understand Islam and what Allah swt requires of us, not the other way round. A lot of people are using Islam as a label or a tag but not actually practicing or have proper understanding of the deen. These are the liberal muslims or the "cultural" muslims. Anyone with a proper understanding of Islam will not even bother to be part of any other ideology nor would they try to use Islam to justify their own beliefs and nafs.
Point to note, I've seen a fair share of cases where someone would carry out a sin or a shirk, announce what they did publicly then mentioned that Allah swt is all forgiving.

Subhannallah! The irony of these statements never cease to amuse yet disappoint me. To use that same logic: do we as Muslims, a group with constitutional rights just as other fellow citizens, not have the right to voice our religous beliefs, even when it goes against the belief of others? What gives gay rights advocates any more of an opportunity to publicly vocalize support for their movement than our opportunity to do the opposite? It's a shame seeing these so called "ulamah" take sides with and quietly stand alongside the misguided instead of using their platforms to shame and discourage such haram and immoral behavior. They are afraid to do so, fearing a substantial loss of support from the sheep more than the punishment of their creator. Just as Allah sent angels to punish the people of Lut AND his wife for supporting them, Allah will punish any who refuse to learn from the example set from those before them.

I'm assuming they just want to "adjust" Islam with the western culture or what they call "civil rights" to minimise the conflict between Islam and The West, hope that people will giving more sympathy for Islam. But guess what? Sounds good, doesn't work.
In Indonesia and Malaysia for example, for couple of century many masyaikh and ulama in those two countries have also practicing the same behavior: compromising Islam with pre-islamic-hinduism culture/rituals (which are full of inovations and shirk), expecting more people will accepting Islam with those kind of strategies.. Yes, in fact the Muslim population are became enormous in those two countries. But it was just a quantity.. Now some "proper" ulama having a hard time recovering the corrupted aqidah of the ummah. Consequences.
As someone from one those countries, I can attest. There are shirk that contain in some of our traditional practices that still exists today like bomoh and false prophecies. But Alhamdulillah, after the 70s and 80s more Muslims from the Nusantara became more Islamically conscious and more orthodox than before. Even if a little bit.
Now, not only we have to deal with the old bida'ah practices but now with modern liberal infested ones as well.
Same in South Asia. Lots of Bid'ah and Shirk and people deviating.
Alhamdulillah the Tablighi Jamaat has played a pivotal role in showing people the Bid'ah and Shirk of these practices and calling them towards Tawheed.

They all seem to be defending that one comment Iman Zaid Shakir made, as to a certain extent it could be down to a very poor choice of words and we all slip up sometimes. However, as Daniel eludes to in his criticism, the comment when corroborated with Imam Zaid Shakir explicit association and endorsement of these haram so called rights actually points towards the fact that it wasn’t a poor choice or words and was intended to say exactly what it did in the spirit it was said. Also I think the actions and public messages on his feeds in supporting Muslims who are advocating for LMNOH+, or whatever they’re called today, rights are actually worse than said comment. I wonder how these ‘allies’ of his would defend the above, oh wait….they do so by not addressing it.
Precisely...if it had been a one off comment, maybe we could give the benefit of the doubt but when you look at the full context of his past and present actions, it makes sense to put his words in scrutiny regarding to matters to the deen.

The reason why our classical Imams are such legends is not only because of knowledge or wisdom. They are also legends because they got balls to speak the truth and fight injustice even if it meant to go against the popular opinion or against the rulers even with disregard to their own safety.
Imam Abu Hanifa died by torture in prison, because he refused to obey the leader.
Ahmad bin hanbal was imprisoned and tortured because he refused to acknowledge the wrong opinions of the rulers.
Imam Sarachsi was imprisoned because he criticised the rulers.
I don't even understand these modern Imams. They will NEVER be accepted by those of the west and they are alienating them from the ummah. In the end they will die alone by being hated of the people they left and despised by the people they tried to pander.

"And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?""
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said:
لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمٰنِكُمْ ۚ إِنْ نَّعْفُ عَنْ طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنْكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَآئِفَةًۢ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ
"Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals." 66
الْمُنٰفِقُونَ وَالْمُنٰفِقٰتُ بَعْضُهُمْ مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمُنْكَرِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ۚ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ الْمُنٰفِقِينَ هُمُ الْفٰسِقُونَ
"The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient."
(QS. At-Tawba 9: Verse 67)

The Prophet said, "Near the establishment of the Hour, there will be the days of Al-Harj, and the religious knowledge will be taken away (vanish i.e. by the death of Religious scholars) and general ignorance will spread."
