This bike is brilliant I have one in South Africa. All terrain, and long long road trips. In comfort. The weight is not a problem. Even in really rugged off-road terrain in all weather conditions. Excellent bike
Excellent review! Best I have ever seen. Congratulations for it and for the bike, of course. It seems perfect. I have the NCx and I know how Honda can build a crosstourer. Geniune pleasure to go on long or tough rides. And the city commute is a pice of cake. Thank you and ride safe!
many thanks! I am happy you enjoyed! I must say that I have ridden many and to this day I am still happy with my choice, it does not cease to surprise me.
Nice review boet. I test rode the non DCT version on Saturday and liked it a lot. Only thing for me is it doesn't come with cruise which I need on long rides but I could mount a throttle lock like I have on my BMW R1200R now. Also here in the US Honda accessories are very pricey. The cases for the Honda are 50% more than my BMW cases and I thought they were pricey. Safe riding man!
+fleuger99 thanks boet...you should try the DCT as well it works well. I have see crosstourer with aftermarket cases so always an option...I agree that there are things that could be improved like cruise control...should be standard, maybe in later models they will introduce. Cheers and ride safe.
Thanks. Good review. The DCT and shaft drive are especially appealing to me. I have the much smaller (engine) 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650, and if I could magically change it to have DCT and belt or shaft drive, I think I could happily keep it for ever and ever.
Thanks for this excellent review even without it I allready decide to order new Crosstourer DCT 2016. But delivery time at this moment seems very long for me...hope end of May I be new owner of this nice bike. Regards from Split, Croatia

+mar1video first bike and you are thinking of getting the 1200x?? Hmm, I'd suggest you ride something like the XT660, cb500x, NC750X or an older transalp would be ideal. Or, if you are the type that wants to have fun all the time then a supermoto.
+Liviu Pavel - actually, I was thinking about VTX 1800 or a Valkyrie as a first bike, but from a practical point of view, I may end up buying AfricaTwin, or a VFR1200X, as a daily commuter. I drive about 30 miles each way, to and from work, and I need a storage space for my books and miscellaneous items for work and school. Another feature I'm interested in is the DCT - still don't know what to think about it... I would love to ride a Gold Wing, but for now, that's out of the question...

Good review, thanks for posting it. One thing however, what are the servicing intervals and how much do the servicing charges cost? Is it possible to do them youself or is it for a Honda dealer only?
One concern I have is whether the height of the seat to the ground will be too much for me. You said you were not tall. How tall are you? I'm 5'10", or 178 cm.
This is probably an embarrassing question for a shorty to answer, but I'm also struck on this issue. I'm 170, which will probably put me on a NC750 again. Maybe just an indication on if we'll be fine on this horse? Thanks for the review.
That was a great overview of a bike that has just arrived here in the U.S. I currently ride an '01 BMW GS and I am thinking of trying this Honda next. I love torque more than HP, and wondering if the V-4 can deliver- Excited to demo if the opportunity exists at the dealership- Cheers (Proost)
Great review matey. Been a while since publishing the video...do you still have this bike? Was wondering if you have had any mechanical issues with the DCT? I’m looking at a used model - good to know any insights into DCT reliability, which is probably very high, being Honda :). Many thanks.
Tony Edwards I have had the bike now 3years and have done 42000km and no issues what so ever. Besides the regular standard service, oil change, brake pads etc I have done nothing else to the bike except change the battery. It is running like the day a bought it. I am very happy with the DCT it is great!
Thanks again for your video and feedback - helped me make the decision to buy a Crosstourer DCT! Only been on a couple of short rides, but the bike is amazing. Would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about a VFR1200X. Cheers!
Yes, I am very happy, I did 1500 km last weekend, the bike is an excellent tourer. It eats up the miles liike no bodies business.i have ridden many bikes and must say this one makes it that much easier. The other thing I love so much is that the DCT is so fast of the.mark, never ceases to amaze me. Enjoy your new rode and stay safe! Cheers
Really fail to comprehend the rationale behind not having cruise control from the factory on such a machine. What where they thinking? Or were they not? And an ABS disengage switch would be lovely. Shame.
I am also looking at the Africa Twin. However this might be a good choice too. I not much of a off road rider but I do live in the farmland area west of Chicago aprox 50 miles west. Nice overview, thank you. How much are these compared to the AT??
I don't know the prices in the US but here in Poland it is approx 2500USD more for the CT. IMHO the AT is more focused on off road while CT is touring, and it really does that well. Cheers and thanks for watching.
Hii bro.. I'm getting it by today.. And it is 5 years bike but still good condition.. But only is that may be I'm not used to dct control.. Is it good and easy to ride cause I'm riding and used using clutch mode..
I also own this bike and so far my biggest complaint is that I have one key for ignition and top box then another key for the side panniers. This is cheap and nasty. Honda should be ashamed when you consider other companies are installing central keyless locking and they think two keys is acceptable.
I have the stock cases with only one key for ignition and all cases. I do understand that if you get 3rd party cases you will require additional keys but this is the case with most bikes. I do agree though that Honda could step up their game a little and introduce, as optional some extras like Electronic suspension or wireless keys. The upside of course is that electronics tend to be less reliable which Honda motorcycle are very reliable and have this in abundance.
Hello 0 -100. I know this is an old posting. Buying this or Africa Twin Crf 1000 soon. Any issues with overheating in traffic or city robots? My previous bike was the 08 Honda Varadero XL1000 V. V -Twin, great bike but did not like heat and used to ''heat seize'' in slow moving or city at 30* = temps. (Capetown). After fan came on, misfire and die!

I like everything about this bike but they need to add cruise control for me to be able to buy this bike. So many people will say that they don't need cc and I don't need it either to control my speed but rather it's for controlling my hand numbness that happens for most of any ride.

I see that you use the same phone grip as I used before I changed to X-Grip.
I though about CT too :) Loved it so much that I took it out twice.
You mentioned wheelies a great deal when talking about the TC. Rather than anti wheelie I think it's for trimming rear wheel spin when off road.
exactly the only way to get the front wheel off the ground is with the TC completely off.
