  • Rarely does a motorcycle come fully equipped for touring or adventuring and there are always going to be things that could be done differently or even better. Thanks to the previous owners, our bike came with a lot of the options, extras and accessories we needed. We’ve added a few more to ‘make it our own’. In this video we share what we’ve done. You might be watching to get more of an insight to our adventures or you might be considering doing the same yourself. Whatever the reason, we hope you enjoy this bonus episode. Thanks for watching.

    Very nice detailed review.
    I can recommend two upgrades I have done to mine here in New Zealand.
    1) MC Cruise control, which is a full electronic system keeping set speed on hills and inclines.
    2) Nitron TVT fork cartridges and the Nitron R3 adventure rear shock with hydraulic preload, will transform the handling of the bike.

    • @greatbritishbikingadventures
      @greatbritishbikingadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks PL, I'll look into both of those.
      The stock Honda suspension isn't bad (once dialed in - see below) but could be improved. I was struggling to set it up then found the following advice and it worked a treat -
      Front suspension - over sprung and under damped -
      Solution, back pre-load off to the stop (minimum 14mm black nut) and wind rebound damping up to max then back off 2 clicks (increasing rebound damping does not make the suspension harder - it merely slows the recoil of the spring).
      Rear Suspension - under sprung and under damped.
      Solution Wind Pre-load adjuster to max and back of 5 clicks (solo) or 3 clicks (pillion + luggage).
      Rebound damping 3/4 of a turn anticlockwise from fully clockwise.
      Still not as good as a decent aftermarket replacement but has made the bike feel much better planted and more comfortable.

      @@splice247 Thanks, I am very tempted with one reservation that is NOT a criticism of mccruise. I'm not sure what we use the CT for justifies getting it. In the last year we've done 10,000 miles but about 500 (at best 1,000) of that would have been on cruise. We really don't spend enough time on open roads to miss it. I have the crude (but best of the pack) Kaoko throttle lock and rarely need it. That said, I think I would like decent cruise and still believe had Honda fitted it as standard they would have avoided half the the criticism aimed at the CT.

    Your display option and mounts looked really good. The only thing I have concern with is the size of the tablet. It seems to take away quite a bit of see-through vision between you and the road. Do you have to bend sideways to see what's ahead or is your line of sight way over the top of the windshield?

      Hi, thanks for your comment and subscribing. The pannier cases open easily, no problem with the 58l top case. Also, we've put these cases to the test, 12,000 miles and counting. The bike has been on the deck a couple of times and the cases just got a few scratches. We've probably carried way more weight then you're supposed to but the cases and the frames have handled it all with ease.

      The details for all the things I mention are in the video description but here's the items you mention -

      Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro 10.1 - Currys, Amazon, direct fromSamsung etc.
      But, technology being what it is that now might be an old model. You might need to take a look at the latest offerings for rugged and waterproof tablets. In which case, the RAM holder will probably be different (if they do one for whatever tablet you go for)

      The tablet is quite an expensive one and bigger than I was first looking at (which was an 8"). The reason I went for the 10" was it was on an amazing deal at the time (last year Black Friday) - £350. I've just checked and it's still available here - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0845VDSPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was intending to do so and did some research that I’d have to do again now. Honda aren’t as easy as other manufacturers but there is an OBD you can get. As for the app, I think that’s all in the video description. We’ve actually found we don’t use it but instead stick with Google maps. It’s very handy having the tablet for the usual internet uses as well, especially when we’re staying somewhere overnight and need to catch up with things.

    • @greatbritishbikingadventures
      @greatbritishbikingadventures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Paul, I have one of the last and it's the same as the one you're getting. Until recently, I hadn't heard of the 3 sports levels model, are you sure they exist 🤔
      As for riding, just get out and explore all the options. You will quickly get the basics but remember you don't throttle off for upshifts or blip the throttle for downshifts.
      I fitted the Honda foot shifter and love it. It's obviously not essential but much more intuitive and replicates proper gear changes much better than the switches. I cover it in the Options and extras video.
      Lastly, give 'drive' a good few hundred miles before dismissing it in preference to sport like a lot of riders do. Maybe it's just the type of riding we do and our age 😀 but I use drive 90% of the time now. Despite what you might think, the engine is not struggling in drive. Yes, it shifts up at very low revs but it can easily handle it. Hope this helped a bit. Enjoy.

      Removing that panel is a bit of a pain especially with crash bars. Although it's just about possible to get it off with the crash bars on it's much better to remove them. Once the bars are off, you've got to remove all the panel fixings. From memory, as well as the obvious allen screws, there are 5 clips. They are the ones that you need to push centre in and the clip releases. The last and most important bit is you have to release the panel by shifting forwards or else you'll break the lugs off the back. I think there's a video on TH-cam that's worth watching before you attempt it.
