Mewtwo being a lightweight character is due to its telekinetically induced anti-gravity, meaning Mewtwo uses its psychic powers to move around. Ironically, it's the heaviest playable Pokemon
I still think he should be a heavy or superheavy like his canonical weight would suggest. He can still be floaty despite the weight, and I feel like he wouldn't want to telekinetically control his own gravity to make him easier to blast away.
As Mewtwo being my low tier main, love that he is getting some love and recognition, very unique character and fun to play when you get to know the intricacies of him
Melee Mewtwo to me is one of those characters I think is very cool, both design and gameplay but everytime I try them I remember why I wouldn't main them.
Honestly I think it takes just one person who is cracked at Mewtwo to shift him up the tier list, just like what happened with Yoshi and Pikachu. I truly don't think he deserves 20th.
@@IrreleventIcarus Even before Leffen it was Taj amongst others back in the day. M2 just has a lot of unique gameplay elements that don't translate well from the upper tier's meta style. He requires a read heavy play style that flows into combos rather than confirms into them. I don't think he requires any tweaking to be a decent pocket counter mix-up in tournament.
If I could choose one character to be viable in Melee, it would undoubtedly be Mewtwo. He has such a cool moveset and I would love to see it actually put to use at top level. If only his hitboxes, hurboxes, and attributes weren’t made by the HAL janitor on his break.
It's funny because if you fix his two major issues being his tail having a hurtbox, as well as him not having a side-b (literally only useable on Battlefield as the iconic cheese), then he'd actually be a top 10 character in the game around Pikachu. He has sooo much shit going for him, but at the end of the day, he's still the true glass cannon of Melee. Combo or get comboed.
What's so weird is that Mewtwo in the Pokémon games is RIDICULOUSLY FAST. 130 speed is no joke, specially in gen 1. Luckily that got fixed in Smash 4 patches. That being said, he's also a glass cannon relatively speaking.
Hey. Just so you know, M2 being ranked last was due to the influence of one person on the smashboards by the name of UmbreonMow. He played M2 and Zelda and talked shit about M2 and convinced the Melee backroom that he was the worst when it absolutely was not true.
Some of the animations can be altered where his tail is in the z axis instead so it can't get hit. Maybe his shield and idle animations? It wouldn't look natural for his run animation though unless they can make it not stick out too much by curling it up.
Leffen has some wack Melee takes, but I'm on that hopium when he says that Mewtwo is mid tier. I'm waiting for slippi ranked to come out so he can prove it.
I mean...Yoshi was E tier before aMSa proved he was actually mid tier. Imagine telling someone in 2006 that a Yoshi would beat four Foxes, two Marths, and a Jigglypuff to win a supermajor.
For the tail hurtbox it could even be so far as making the mid and end hitboxes smaller (or remove the end one entirely) and then make either one or both fully intangible during stand, walk, run, etc. That way his attacks have a disjoint that can still be challenged, but he isn’t punished for his hurtboxes while just existing in space He is also canonically 289 lbs. Mario has a weight value of 100 and I don’t see him as that light. Maybe a weight value around 104 (no change to float) would be ideal
in my opinion, in melee bad characters don't exist, there's only underrated characters that are just underepresented because they're harder to use, thus scaring off many players, and there are the bottom 5 characters that straight up don't work
Mewtwo does not have upthrow chaingrabs on spacies, or any character. Forward throw is not good for racking up damage, people typically DI out of it for free
Funny enough, Leffen thinks MewTwo is Dr. Mario level in terms of viability currently and that MewTwo has potential to win a major but it would be very hard and involve developing the character alot more. maybe that could be a new video by you
Mewtwo was sadly wasted potential because if he did not had a hurt box as a tail and was more faster he could of been viable heck! maybe good but sadly time got him but hey there's always PM to remind us why we should not buff him to much lol love da vid keep up honest work :) .
Mewtwo is a formidable force in the Pokémon world, possessing remarkable weight, speed that rivals Rapidash and Alakazam, and formidable strength surpassing that of Gengar and Alakazam. Its power even outshines many legendary Pokémon. However, surprisingly, in the realm of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mewtwo has been relegated to a lower tier. 😅
Kinda disappointed on how Mewtwo is included in this game, given that this is a 2001 game, there's not much to really to take after resulting in his moveset being pretty dull, especially after playing pokken. Maybe if melee had a couple more months he could also make for a sick ass boss character akin to Sf3 Third Strike's Gill, and the unlocking method is to defeat him with every other character prior rather than that disaster of a method we got. 😂
I main m2 in p+ but play them in melee as my go to, tbh if mewtwo had better air mobility then fair could be used to just 0 to death most fast fallers since it's insanely good aside being on mewtwo. Also side b is useless even on battlefield unless you are playing someone who has no clue about it, if you go for it against anyone who knows it will not get them and it is not viable for camping ledge either as it's too laggy and long of an animation so your opponent will just jump over and hit you with what is likely a spike or meteor that will kill you, it's also negative on hit so like don't even bother using it because it's just deciding to use an ungodly slow move that gets you combo'd by them if you land it, it is unironically worse than falcon punch as an offensive option, the only use is the tiny boost it gives in the air
I always thought mewtwos tail should be his strength and weakness I know it’s not really cannon to his game but when you hit mewtwo his tail should break off and regrow over time
Bad kill confirms..? Dude.. the character has dtilt > fair as a guaranteed kill confirm on every member of the cast at some percent and if it DOESNT KO, then Back throw or upthrow would kill. Dtilt sets up for tech chases too which makes upthrow better
I was semi-invested into this video until you showed kill confirms on banned stages and brought up PM as a talking point. I'm convinced you have no idea what you're even talking about.

Was EU Leffen not enough to show his potential?

I always forget that mewtwo is in melee, DK as well
I NEVER see either character so it’s always surprising to see gameplay
Funnily enough both of those characters have data in the Melee Cookbook site whereas Falco doesn’t
Hello Sliced.
Dk is kinda sick in melee. Hes got a crazy punish game in melee just kinda struggles in neutral.
Guess what lol :D

Not to mention he’s canonically the heaviest Pokémon in Smash lol
Mewtwo is underrated in Melee.
He has one of the best recoveries in the game

i click for the honesty and i stay for the content
Imagine being the most time consuming character to unlock but your like very mid 💀
Some of the animations can be altered where his tail is in the z axis instead so it can't get hit. Maybe his shield and idle animations? It wouldn't look natural for his run animation though unless they can make it not stick out too much by curling it up.
As a Mewtwo main myself, this is pretty sick. I am a low tier main and I don’t care.

Despite the flaws I still enjoy playing Mewtwo in Melee and Project M just takes Mewtwo to another level.
Great video dude! The ending seemed a bit abrupt but the quality is super high. Keep it comin!
Mark my words...someone will come out of the woodwork with new techs and mewtew will climb the ranks...like amsa with yosh
Your videos are done so well, definitely deserve more viewership

Mewtwo: I can't even be touched in my movie, but in melee I am bad. 😢
Make a video about big link pls... He's my mid-tier boy
It's crazy that a character like Mewtwo goes from being a lightweight in Melee to a medium weight in Project M/Project+
I love Mewtwo and I am glad he gets respect and recognition! 💜
I will try my best to bring this character to relevance :)
do it my guy!
I think mewtwo should be a heavy weight but is floaty when it comes to fall speed, jumps, but if you hit it it's not gonna fly very far
Every character is viable
Right!
Yeah just depends on player
in my opinion, in melee bad characters don't exist, there's only underrated characters that are just underepresented because they're harder to use, thus scaring off many players, and there are the bottom 5 characters that straight up don't work

Mewtwo's ranking went up because someone was dedicated enough to a character they liked in order to figure out how to work around its weaknesses.
This reminds me of a story I heard awhile ago of someone named aMsa, something I suppose you could call a Yoshi story
Does Mewtwo still have his tail hurtbox in Project M/Project+?
Mewtwo was sadly wasted potential because if he did not had a hurt box as a tail and was more faster he could of been viable heck! maybe good but sadly time got him but hey there's always PM to remind us why we should not buff him to much lol love da vid keep up honest work :) .

He lowkey has potential because of his difficulty. I think he has an aMSa out there somewhere
What is This Stage ? 2:51???
I always show love for Mewtwo back Melee, and when PM 3.0 came out I played a hell lot with! He will always stand as my favorite along with Pikachu!
Also reflecting projectiles doesn’t hurt the other character
every character can combo spacies lol
Mewtwo is effing sick. Period.

Awesome video.
Great video! honest!
crazy how you made this right before leffen proved how good mewtwo can be on ranked.
Puff yoshi and falcon all have better aerial mobility than mewtwo

Mewtwo content let's go
