My family and got it last year I agree with all of your points. Hoping to fit four people in but of course only three with the Nemo air mattresses. Taking it to Colorado in July for white water rafting trip. Oh we add a tarp to the bottom of the tent the first time we took it out the dew came the ground.
Wow, great review. You went into much detail and I appreciate that. You are right it is not a 4 season tent, but I was thinking about buying it and using it during the Fall but don't like the fact that the floor is flemsy. Thank you for all the information.
I have two japanese version of this tent. The model is the v300 tough wide. It doesn't have a full mesh roof like this one and the mesh it does have you have the option to close it off. Also the colors are neutral.
Yeah! The North Face Wowana is a good alternative. It will fit a couple and 2 kids depending on how much room you want to have. If you want extra space/ space for things in the tent like bags I’d opt for the 6 person version, that goes for this or any tent. Most 4 person tents CAN fit 4 but it’s tight.
It’s been on sale a lot recently. I’d pick it up again on sale for sure. The thing is very solid/stable compared to similar tents its size and especially its weight. As far as the floor goes, I wouldn’t use it without the footprint. I haven’t had any issues with tearing or holes but I’ve used it with the footprint every time.
So far so good, I've taken it out on a handful of camping trips across Colorado and its done pretty well in all circumstances. Had it out in below freezing temps, fully zipped and closed up it did well. Held up extremely well in high wind, surprisingly better than buddies tents that were flapping and making a lot of noise. Also took it out to Moab in the heat and the full mesh construction did great. The only down side I've noticed is that the vestibule zipper gets caught on the fabric more often than I'd like if you don't stake the front down.
Depends what you need, like using this with a family I could see the basecamps 2 doors being more important or if you're going to be camping in winter conditions the basecamp would be better. The coleman would have better airflow, easier to set up/take down, lighter. I think the biggest difference is the vestibule size, 2 doors, and airflow.
@@MidWestMTB Thanks for the response. Yeah, it'll be a family tent - me, my wife, and a 5 year old, (and our dog). Most of our camping will be spring, summer, and fall in Ohio/KY areas. So, I feel the airflow of the Coleman and the ease of setup/duffle style packaging might have me sold. I do worry about the floor of the Coleman with my dogs paws.. but otherwise I do think the Peak1 looks a bit cooler. I love the giant open front door and ability to roll up the rain fly. Wish the vestibule was a bit bigger for outer tent storage.
The cut out on the back of the fly is problematic in the wind. I wish the fly came to the bottom all the way around. This opening lets in a current and is loud and annoying when it is windy.
Yeah, I was thinking about throwing a tight line under the tent to snug it up when it is really cold. I personally don’t have problems with the wind but I usually guy it out pretty tight when it’s windy
I’m Surprised they didn’t make this with their bathtub tarp floor like they have on most of hot all Other of thier tents. I’m love Coleman tents and LOVE THE TUB floor. This tent would Be a home Run for me if it had that tarp/tub floor
Yeah I think the goal was to keep the weight down and the tarp would be heavy even if it is more durable. If you used it with the footprint it’s great, I’ll be posting an updated review here soon!
Not even close to the same type of tent. The 4 person peak 1 has a lot more standing room, has much better poles and guy line system for wind and bad weather, doesn't have the poles attached to the tent itself, significantly better ventilation, packs down smaller, much lighter, and has better taping and sealing. Whether any of that is worth the increased price is subjective though, I went years with a $30 tent from walmart that never gave me any trouble.
They're very close in terms of style! The Wawona 6 is such a solid tent and you can't beat that additional vestibule add-on thing. I think the Wawona has Coleman beat on the price for sure. Quality of materials I think is really close but North Face might win in terms of durability (haven't had the Coleman long enough). I really like the full mesh construction of the Coleman though, took it out to Moab over Memorial Day weekend and it did really well in the heat.
I like your review, very detailed and no bullshit, all good information.
Thank you!
Very extensive review, you covered this tent from many angles. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm planning on doing an update soon since I've gotten a whole lot of use out of it in the last few months.
Have had the Colman Halligan for many years. Time to get a new one. Thank you for the review
the vestibule / door on tents with this type of design are made so you can use 2 extra poles in front, tied out, so the door becomes a canopy.
I've seen that for smaller tents, I didn't think that was the intention with this thing being so tall but that definitely makes sense!

Thanks man! I think this tent would be good for fall but if you're dealing with wind chill you might be in trouble.
I’m between this and the North Face Wawona 6…. Is there any room for a ceiling fan mount if you remove the mesh pouch on the top???

Is there another tent similar to this tent you might recommend. Also do you think this tent will fit a couple and 3 and 5 year old? Thanks

What's Ur review of the tent after one year. Would u still buy it, is the floor really delicate?

So any update on how this was?

Thanks for the helpful review! Did you find any poles to hold the vestibule flap up? @@MidWestMTB
Would you prefer this tent or the REI Base Camp 6 ?

It seems like Coleman skydome full fly vestibule 6 person tent which cost about 200 dollars.

Great review Seems like a decent tent a bit overpriced though mines well get the north face wawona 6 instead

Don't say "What's up" when your audience can't answer, you don't care to hear the answer and only mean to say "Hello". It's asinine and an offense.
Good review otherwise. 🙂
thanks Santa!
