- Cats feel insecure when you pick them up and being hugged is like being trapped to them. It can easily cause stress or aggression, so think twice before expressing love the human way!
- If you don’t give your little one the attention or food they want when they want it, be prepared for constant meowing or pawing at your leg. Cats have their own schedule that you’ll never really understand, and they like to be the one to decide when it’s “play with human” time.
- Some cats are okay with their human clipping their nails, but most won’t have any of it! It’s an incredibly risky procedure, and their post-surgery wounds can easily get infected.
- It’s a universal truth that cats, with maybe a few rare exceptions, despise water. You see, your house cat’s ancestors lived in Europe, Africa, and China, where they weren’t exposed to much water. So, they didn’t have to learn how to deal with it.
- Cats are extremely territorial, and “your” home is actually your cat’s. And cats don’t like to leave their little kingdom, so a car ride can be emotionally stressful as well.
- You might love 4th of July fireworks, but your cat - not so much. They don't like any loud noises, whether it be honking cars, the vacuum, hair dryer, and so on.
- Cats are way more like their ancestors that lived in the wild. Those kitties clearly didn’t like feeling something against their fur, restricting their freedom of movement.
- If you see knots or mats in your kitty’s hair, definitely get rid of those. You’ll save your cat from the pain and other nasty things that come with knots, such as fleas, ticks, and rashes.
- Even though cats meow at humans and not other cats, they don’t expect you to meow back! But if you try to meow back, your kitty will be really confused.

She is actually a stray that came to my ex partner walked in his house one day ate the dogs food and just lay on the sofa and went to sleep. We had no idea where she came from. I named her Pushkee. Now she lives with me as I looked after her while my ex partner went to work away. When he came for her I couldn’t bear to let her go I fell in love with her. She’s so funny with her own personality I always know what she wants. They say cats pick their owners and I truelly believe she picked me and my daughter we love her so much. I don’t even know how old she is. I love watching your videos.

Well, some cats are different, Carolyn D. Some cats don't like any of these. But however, some people in the comments said the opposite. Cats are different, so they may like/dislike certain things. For example, some cats don't like taking a bath because the can't shake their coat of fur as well as dogs can, while some love the water because they don't get it very much. This video was made to help people treat their cat(s) better.
I used to have a rabbit that was ok with baths (starting from the second time I bathed him, the first time was a nightmare), so they might have to get used to it? I do realize cats and rabbits are not the same, but maybe??

The first cat I ever had, Sooti, had different meows for different things, She taught them to me, I could tell when her water wasn't fresh enough, the litter box smelled to her, her pillow was messed up, and various other things. But she absolutely loved every person that walked in the door. I have another one now, 15 yrs old and she hates every other animal she sees, but she loves every human that walks in the door, even complete strangers.

Ya he is not Jackson Galaxy or the Cat Lady... Different breeds of cats like different things. Some cats surprisingly even like water. Just usually house cats don't like being in water and male cats can learn to be more aggressive from belly rubs. But that doesn't mean 100% of cats are like that. I know my cat loves the brush a LOT.

@@montygreen6228 I'm really sorry :( recently my cousins dog died on us too and we really loved him and still do! He had to be put down because he was having strokes more severe by the week! Large cats absolutely love water and all cats can be taught from a young age to enjoy water; slightly older cats can learn to tolerate it. The same goes for belly rubs or messing with paws and ears (necessary for cleaning). Cats shed nails and it is absolutely okay to trim their nails for them.

Retired groomer/vet assistant here. There's a couple of things wrong here and I'm quite surprised that you'd publish this. You absolutely should trim their nails and brush them if they allow it. Better yet, make it a bonding moment and slowly introduce both to even the non-compliant ones. I've seen enough claws growing back into the pads and massive infections that followed to know some of them need help, scratching posts or not. Also, some of them will get their claws stuck in carpet etc and just pull, causing tearing and again, potential infection. As for brushing, even short coats can benefit from that. It reduces the likelihood of hairballs getting barfed up on your floor and allows you the chance to see and feel any scabbing, bumps, dry skin etc. Obviously, if your kitty turns into a demon when you try to trim nails/brush, you don't want to push the matter, but putting these important things on a list of "never do's" is just not correct. As for spraying water at them to discipline them? The only thing they learn from that is that sometimes you're mean. There are several ways to keep a cat from destroying the house that doesn't involve destroying their trust in you.

My cat likes strange people, not animals. She likes belly rubs and she gets annoyed if I don't meow back. I have to speak her language or no go. Shes very bossy. He is right about this being her home. I just live here. I once had a cat that loved car rides. She would get excited and loved to watch people in different cars. She was a outdoor cat. The cat I have now doesn't. She's a inside cat. She thinks I'm crazy if I even suggest going out onto the porch for fresh air. The window is good enough for her. After reading and watchin thousands of cat videos and tips, I really realized that our knowledge about cats are extremely low, like everyone give tips and explain cat behavior on his own way and his pet.
These videos and articles telling many contradictory things, one say do that and other say don't ever do it. So just do what you and your cat enjoy, no one will knows your cat as you know it.
I know and have cats that just love strangers. Human that is. My cat Eli loves his tummy rubbed. I meow at my cats all the time and no one gets upset especially my Lilly. Maybe it's because I raised her as an one day old kitten, but we always have meow time and it makes her run to me, sit on my lap, and purr.
I have had cats for 71 years. All cats are different , no two behave alike. I've read many books on cats , but 99% of knowledge comes from day to day experience
New to cats but I agree with you. All the dogs I've had have been unique with different temperaments and intelligence.

My cat doesn't care about scratching posts. I flip her nails often. My cat loves belly rubs. If a cat let's you rub its belly it means it trusts you. My kitty doesn't mind that I meow at her too. She is a sweet loveable cat. But I do speak her language and I understand her very well.

About belly rubs...I walk my cats and have noticed that they roll over for a belly rub when they first meet me in the street, and when we get to certain places they once considered dangerous, to show me they are comfortable there.
If my cat doesn't get her belly rubbed daily she is not happy.

If you would like to look at my channel, you'll see three videos of me walking my cats. One of them is just 'Biscuit' one of my cats, and I've had her since she was 2 after her owner died. She had never been out before but from her first night with me I taught her the streets and she listens to everything I tell her to.
The second video is also mainly Biscuit, but my other cat Baby can be seen near the end, they are brother and sister but I've had him since he was 3 months old.
He understands me perfectly as you'll notice in that video.
But most surprisingly is my third video of Bungle. He's a fully grown stray cat, probably around 10 years old. He is surprising because he just appeared one day, followed me to a friends house, then came back to that house every night where he would sit staring at the front door just waiting for me to come.
Other people in the house would feed him but he still sat and waited for me.
Eventually, I let him know where I live and I took him in about a month or so ago.
For a cat that I didn't train and which never grew up with me, he is easier to walk than my own two. They like to play games, run and hide from me etc, but Bungle just plods along steadily, wherever I go.
I've taken him on very long walks, even to the high street where he sits outside the shop door waiting for me to come out.
He listens to me perfectly.
I tell him to wait, he waits, I tell him to hurry he runs, I tell him to sit, he sits.
At home, I tell him to eat his food, he eats, I tell him to lay down, he lays down.
My own cats do the same, but they grew up with me, how does this stray cat understand me so well?
I think every cat is different. My maisy loves belly rubs, getting brushed, meeting new humans who she can befriend and meowing back and forth with me. 😍

My cat Zoe hates some loud noises, but she is attracted to others. She hates the usual ones like the vacuum cleaner or thunder, but she loves music. Whenever I start singing or playing the piano, she gets really excited. She jumps up on the bench next me and starts purring and rubbing face on my arms. If I start singing, she'll actually try to rub her face on mine! I've never had cat do that before I got her.

I had a black cat named Zoot. He LOVED going for rides and road trips. I used to also take him to the supermarket. I would put him in a large bag and I would put him in the child seat. He would stick his head out the bag and look out the bag. He was so excited and happy to go out.

Wrong! Removing their claws is good for them, cuz if u don't, their claws get longer and they start scratching things and their claws might get stuck and might start bleeding when they pull.

It's called trimming them not removing them the only reason why vet doctors would remove them is because of infection or there is something wrong with the claw, trimming them is different if you don't trim it could cause potential infection making the cat sick.

Long hair cats definitely DO need brushing. Clumps often gather and can cause skin sores if not! Don’t do that to your long haired kitty!
Kelli Votel agreed! Even medium length coat cats need an assist in the grooming department. I foster cats and have one foster failure of my own and some need help while short hairs mostly need none. My forever foster is chunky and lazy and unfortunately also has a semi long coat. If I don’t brush him, and even when I do, he gets terrible mats. The only way to remove them is to get them shaved off at the vet. And I think we all know how much his royal chubbiness likes that!
My two kitties are polar opposites. Amber loves being the shoulder cat, welcomes strangers, loves belly rubs, is extremely vocal and prefers to sit on the car seat than in a carrier. He's a lovebug and my little spoon every night. Iris on the other hand hates being carried, trusts only me and my boyfriend. She hides everytime we have guests over. Belly rubs aren't her favourite but she tolerates them. She's very quiet except during dinner time and likes to sit in her carrier if we're going on a drive. She prefers to sleep on my pillow near my head at night.

Cats do talk to other cats. At least our two do. Not sure if they are sibs because we got them at an adoption event, but early on they bonded and sleep and cuddle together. But I most definitely hear them chirping and talking.
Sometimes one will make a certain meow if he doesn't know where the girl is and will continue til he finds her. And they talk together at different times about who knows what. They talk to me as well, but definitely communicate with each other.

Not always true, I got my wee rescue girl when she was around three and once she started to trust me insisted on throwing herself on her back for tummy rubs. It took 6 months or so but it seems to be all about the trust between you and the cat as opposed to when you got the cat.

Each animal is an individual, like we humans, you can't generalise, as training helps to get them used to many new things.
For example, saying that trips make them sick; I travelled by bus, car, train and plane, he never felt sick.
He likes tummy rubs and has no problem with me taking pictures (I agree that a flash can bother though).
He loves to be picked up and even jumps on my shoulder to get his hugs.
Finally, I have always bathed all my cats once a year, to get all the dust and dirt out of their undercoat, and regularly trimmed their nails.

My Cheepers doesn't know a stranger. She goes up to anyone to greet them. I have never seen her shy from meeting anyone.
My cat Trent insisted on me picking him up and giving him a kiss and holding him like a baby as soon as I would walk in the door. He also expected me to take him for a walk every day and yes he walked on a leash like a pro! He was very vocal and I would talk to him because if I didn't he wouldn't stop.
Meowing and he could get very loud ! And yes he always had to get the last word in! We were very close. I didn't know they got car sick. I also found out this morning on dr. Oz Show. Essential oils are toxic to cats. He didn't like the top of his ears touched or his tail but that's because when I found him as a kitten he had a broken tail and he had burns on his ears so they were both quite sensitive. Other than that he pretty much tolerated everything else except for another cat. He would get very jealous! We had him for 22 years before he passed away. Lord I miss my sweet Trent! 🙀

My kitty Boots loves attention, loves to snuggle, and will actually meow back at me. True he hates baths and isn't too fond of the belly rub alot he does enjoy them now and again. He loves to get brushed with a kitty detangling brush. And he actually likes being scratched under his chin too. If I walk away from him and he wasn't done with loving time he will bat at me say wait I want more plz. When my baby would come home from work boots would jump up on him everyday. He's not fond of alot of loud noises and loves to play with our shadows.

I think an important thing to learn is that each cat is different and has a different personality. Though I have also learned that cats can adapt just like we can, it just takes time and patience.
I've had cats who play, cats who don't play, cats that love water, hate water etc etc. I had a cat who loved the hair dryer even. : )
I approached a local cat charity that supports, spays and neatuers cats from feral colonies. My husband was a very large man, and when he passed he left a pretty massive hole. I figured the hole was just about the right size for a bonded pair. I brought home Walter and Willow, the two cats who had been in foster care the longest, but I chose them with no greater intent than to provide them with a secure home. I pretty much left them to their own devices and allowed them to come to me when they wanted to. I was stunned at how quickly they sought out my attention. Eighteen months later they are very satisfied with their home and Mom. They seek out affection from me whenever they like - and enjoy being left alone when that suits them. These two kids of mine have a quirky shared behaviour. Walter wags his tail like crazy when he is happiest. Willow loves - and I mean LOVES gentle belly rubs (not for long, but she will grab my hand to demand them). Both cats have now earned the nickname "the PuppyCats, and my home is now referred to as PuppyCat Manor. I wish every cat lover and owner a relationship as rewarding as the one I enjoy with my fur babies.

These dont apply to my cats....they get baths, i clip thier nails, they like car rides, they push each other out of the way to get a good brushing and i carry them around like babies....
My kitten is 9 weeks old and his so cute 😻. He enjoys being picked up. He would actually jump up the couch so I can pick him up, so far I see he just loves being cuddled

My cat Buster loves hugs and will ask for them. He loves belly rubs, and people, anyone knocks on my door he will run to the door to greet the person.
I've had cats my entire life so none of these came as any surprise. I have two cats and they have such different personalities as do every other cat. One of mine loves het tummy rubbed but hates her lower back touched. The other will occasionally let you rub her tummy in a soft massage style but she goes nuts for a back scratch.
Cats who have their claws removed continue to feel pain from it.

Interesting how many of these things DON’T apply to my cats. I have 3 cats that love belly rubs...one of them will expose their belly while you pet her. 1 of my cats spent a week in the car and didn’t mind it. She was a rescue (picked up off the road after being hit and taken to the vet. While she recovered, she stayed with my husband in the car while he worked). Part of the reason she stayed with him was to keep her away from the other cats while she recovered from her injuries. Once she was recovered, we slowly introduced her to her new brother and sisters and they get along fine. She fully recovered, runs and plays as if nothing ever happened to her.
I smuggle my cat all the time and she never runs away for me and one time she got caught and she went to a shelter and then we found her again and she loves me! ❤️
