    I am so happy and excited for you on your book! I'm so anxious to see it! I love the new cover page! It would be brilliant if you sold prints of your Gorey children, I would hang them all over the house. How did you like Howl's Moving Castle? My daughter and I love the Ghibli movies! Howl's, Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service are my favorites. It's almost time for me to rewatch your last year's Gorey project! It's lovely to see you, you always make me smile. I hope you have a great time at your lakeside vacay!

      Thank you! I'm excited to see the books done and in my hands (learning the paperback and hardback process was kind of hard!) I do plan to sell prints and the originals, but first I need to figure out my poor, dusty scanner I got a few years ago. Probably not a project for this Halloween. :) I love Howl's Moving Castle! What crazy and imaginative animation! It was interesting how Sophie kept changing - old, young, not so old, dark hair, silver hair... Also, so happy you want to rewatch Goreytober! If you want one a day til Halloween (and you start with Amy) I think the day to start would be October 7. Since O and P are best friends and a double feature video.

    Congratulations on having your book "26 Tiny Tombstones" published! I also had two of my children's books published, a long long time ago. It is exciting, isn't it? I love your drawings, and enjoy watching your videos, although, I have not watched any for a while. You are so clever at your illustrations, and I envy you! Goodluck with selling your book, Rachel! ~Janet in Canada

      Thanks, Janet! What a nice comment! I'm going through Amazon Kindle self-publishing, which is a great option these days. And a bit of a learning curve, too. That's wonderful, that you're published! What were they about? Hope you are doing well.

    Well, y'all all got me, I never heard of Howl's Moving Castle. Love the drawings, keep us posted on the progress. I am looking forward to it being published. Have fun at the lake, and happy birthday a little early. Remember, to many people, your still just a young whipper snapper.

      Whipper snapper! :) Thank you for your nice comment! Howl's Moving Castle is one of several Studio Ghibli films that have a cult following. People adore them. Nice, Japanese animated movies with beautiful music.

    Happy twentyfifth times two plus two birthday. Many more creative years to come.
    Just saw the cover on Amazo and it looks amazing. The hair falling out if the cameo and turning into roots is perfection.

      Thank you! And yay! You saw it. I was going to announce when the hardcover was available too. I should get that proof today. 🙂

    I already loved the previous drawings you did of the tinies so much, but the small revisions make them even better! ❤
    And don't worry, you're not the only one who hasn't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet. I've had it on my to watch list for ages, but it's not on any of my streaming services and I have no idea where to watch it.
    I've seen all the cool craft videos about it though! Besides Mechanical Fiend I also really enjoyed Studson Studio's creation of the entire castle, and Miss Mini Life's creation of Howl's (extremely maximalist) bedroom.
    Huge fan of WWDITS! (Not you, Guillermo! 😂) Enjoy watching, I won't give anything away.
    Also, congrats on the upcoming book publishing, so cool! And happy 25st birthday! 🎉

      Thank you for the comments about the drawings. :) As far as Howl's Moving Castle, we rented it on Amazon Prime for $3.99 HD so not bad. I've also seen Studson Studios and Miss Mini Life's Howl builds. Both are amazing. Funnily, in the Howl book, his bedroom isn't so maximalist. It's just dirty and full of spiders, which he orders Sophie not to kill. (She is not allowed to clean in his room or even enter it.) I prefer the insane movie version. Hope you are doing well. Any fun plans or projects for spooky season?

    I first knew Edward Gorey from his animations for the intro to “Mystery!” on PBS, & The Gashlycrumb Tinies was the first of his books I heard about.

    good luck with hiting your deadline, personally I stay away from deadline. they don't like me and I despise them.

    • @rachealgetscreative
      @rachealgetscreative  ปีที่แล้ว

      Deadlines are strange, slippery things - like frogs. I will break a deadline I make secretly all day long, but if I tell someone else - especially online - I am somehow more motivated. :)

  • @rufferstuff9148

    Some of the differences between the originals and the revisions are small, but they really polish the images. Hope to see you on the best seller page.
    What about a drawing of the cloche for the cover? The details might be too small though.
    The information on all of the steps is interesting. I doubt I will ever publish anything, but still good to hear.
    If your car gets messy again and you need another detailing just look at it as keeping someone employed.
    There are only a billion movies how can you not have seen all.of them? You should enjoy this one.
    Age like a fine wine so you don't turn into vinegar.
    Thanks for the episode.

      Well, it was a big learning process for the paperback and hardback (much harder than ebook formatting) but I am awaiting proofs from Amazon now. We'll see how I did. I had thought of, not the cloche, but the hill with the gravestones and some long shadows for the cover. In the end, I went a different direction - and in the process, fell down a webby-net rabbit hole of vintage (Victorian/Edwardian) book covers, which are amazing. I borrowed part of Jules Verne cover, now in the public domatin, as my cover background.
      As far as the clean car, I should be able to keep it clean when I think about how hard the guy worked on it. He's a perfectionst, and we tipped accordingly. :)

    Awesome work on the book so far! Glad to see you looking forward to Howl's Moving Castle. If you enjoyed the book, please read everything you can find of Diana Wynne Jones. You will not be disappointed. Archer's Goon is my absolute favorite of hers!

    • @rachealgetscreative
      @rachealgetscreative  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did like her writing, and it was interesting to see how to book and movie were different and the same. Loved both. I think my next Ghibli movie will be My Neighbor, Totoro (one my husband likes and recommended.) I will definitely read Archer's Goon. Thanks for the recommendation. How did your recent market go?

    So much talent! I love every single drawing! I've been working on a book that I wrote for my daughter, and I've been procrastinating on illustrating the last two pages for MONTHS. You've inspired me to get back into gear! Thank you for the much needed inspiration and motivation! I can't wait until your book is published. :)

      @rachealgetscreative  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, thanks! Do it! Finish that art! What is your book about? If you plan to self-publish on Amazon, I now know lots of do's and don'ts so feel free to message on Instagram @RachealGetsCreative

      @@rachealgetscreative My book is about a candy obsessed monster. It all started as a plot to get my daughter to eat healthier. I'll try anything (not that it works!). I would be so grateful for any advice you have on self publishing! I did finally finish my illustrations, but I have literally no clue how to get set up on Amazon. Thank you so much for the offer!

      @@ArtOfTheUnquietGrave What a great idea for a book! And yay for finishing the illustrations!! You did it! I'll message you on Instagram by this weekend with some basic "lessons learned" about self-publishing on Amazon. They really do have some great instructions online at kdp.amazon.com/en_US/bookshelf Step 1 is to have an Amazon account (it doesn't need to be on Prime).
      Oddly enough, I have a video about a candy obsessed "monster" from last Christmas - the sugarplum fairy. :)

      @@rachealgetscreative Oh, thank you so much! I started reading through that Amazon link and it is really helpful, but I'm sure hearing your personal experience would be even better! I'm really not very tech savvy at all, but I'll have to muddle my way through. :) Ah, sugarplum fairy "monster"! That's such a fun idea! I'm working my way back through all your videos, so I can't wait to get to that one!

      @@ArtOfTheUnquietGrave :) Quick question that would be helpful before giving advice. Is your book a chapter book or more of picture book (I know it was for your kiddo)? I ask because there is a minimum number of pages to create paperbacks and hardbacks like I did. But then - I know there are self-published picture books out there, too.
