Running Wild is a German heavy metal band formed in Hamburg in 1976. They were part of the German metal scene to emerge in the early to mid-1980s, and are also considered to be one of the country's so-called "big four" of power metal, along with Grave Digger, Helloween and Rage.

Bartholomew Roberts, better known as Black Bart is considered the most successful pirate of the so called Golden Age of Piracy. He also was one of the first to adopt a skull and crossbones flag. This guy was basically the grandfather of the stereotypical rum drinking, daring pirate. Even his pursuers admired is bravery.

Hi Shane.. just stepped over your video wich is some months old now. I have bee listening to Running Wild since the late 80s. MY favorit album of them is "Black hand Inn" from 1994. Those guys have been doing priate metal far bevore this became a genre of its own. Acually the band is most of the time only "the guy" you saw in the Video Rolf Kasparek Who writes all the songs.

Bobby, you always bring it! Interesting and different. My son introduced me to Pirate Metal music, so I have a bit of a tender spot for the genre. This not bad and I could listen to it at face value for being some banging rock, no genre pigeon hole needed.

Funny you should play something from Rock 'n' Rolf's band as I've been revisiting their back catalog in the past few weeks. These guys (its really just Rolf's band nowadays) are the originators of the whole Pirate Metal genre, starting with their 3rd album Under Jolly Roger, which is a great record with one of the best guitar tones ever put to tape (or CD or Vinyl or...) My favorite pick when it comes to albums is 1989's Death or Glory. I'd highly recommend visiting that one, but all their classic material is worth listening to. As far as a top five is concerned...
    1. Marooned (Death or Glory - 1989)
    2. Raw Ride (Under Jolly Roger - 1987) The 1st song of theirs I ever listened to.
    3. Branded and Exiled (Branded and Exiled - 1985)
    4. Diamonds of the Black Chest (Under Jolly Roger - 1987)
    5. Battle of Waterloo (Death or Glory - 1989)

Huh that's a strange coincidence as I was just listening to their first album Gates to Purgatory. I just love the rawness of it over the more polished sound they have today.

Check out Running Wild's older stuff. Gates of Purgatory (1984) is their best album.
    Try Victims of States Power.

The only Jolly Roger song I know is by Adam & The Ants (on the Kings of the Wild Frontier album)..."It's your money that we want and your money we shall have!" I have never heard of this band, let alone this song. I thought it was pretty catchy and fun, although I did think that godforsaken Old English font was a poor choice for a lyric video. "Pimp the merch" indeed... I loved how plugs for their memorabilia kept popping up all during the solos....SUBTEXT: sing our song; buy our shit!! 😹🏴‍☠
