This one of the most ambitious metal compositions I've ever heard, the degree of changes that actually work; plus the vocal and guitar work is top tier. The staccato vocals and drums with "sitting in the corner you feel naked and alone" is just perfection.
Nice to see the Canadian thrash legends get some love. Jeff waters is an absolutely unreal guitar player. You should show him protest the hero next and play him the song blindfolds aside
Nice reaction!Glad that a true Metalhead hosts this channel so we don't miss out on classics like this! AAA lice in Hell always reminds me on EEE limination by Overkill wich are still missing on this channel..!🤘
That was really fun to watch. First time Judson hears things on the more techno-thrash side of thrash? Play him that Toxik next! Watchtower! Coroner! Open that brain up even more :D
I didn't know Randy died. (RIP Randy) This entire album is one of my all time favorite Thrash albums. Had this on cassette in 89 and wore it out. Jeff Waters is one of the greatest guitarists I've ever heard, too. Good one, Richard.
Thanks for including the intro! I personally like the unhinged vocals with a slight attitude, goes well in contrast with the classical guitar work. Next you could do Annihilator's spiritual sibling, Artillery from Denmark - double song as well "7:00 from Tashkent" & "Khomaniac". (I am sure you're familiar, definitely would have been on those top lists :)))
14:38 actually Jeff IS the one that does the high screams in the chorus. Or so I have been told. Randy Rampage was my favorite singer in Annihilator, I just love his voice and the attitude. Bought this album on vinyl when it came out and still listen to it regularly.
I f'n love Annihilator & this album. I feel like I'm the only one in Australia who knows them HAHA This was a rad video for Judson's facial expressions & body language. He had no idea what was going on.
That was some heavy piano playing there bro! Awesome! I do that whenever I see a piano in public or at someone's house, I sit down and start playing dark gothic classical stuff... Start out with Bach then dive deep with some improvisational darkness!! Perfect intro to this awesome Annihilator song as well!! "I trust you, I just don't believe anything you say...." Hahaha fair enough!
Damn that piano intro from Judson sounds exactly like a piano version of the bones of the babydoll by acid bath i actually thought that was intentional haha
I can't wait to see and listen Judson try some VOIVOD stuff soon The chaotic order dissonant atmosphere of voivod songs are a good option for him 😌 Great video guys! Keep it going!
I've been listening to rock/metal music for a very long time, I've heard tons of bands and records over the years but I would still put Crystal Ann in the top 5 openers/intros of all time in this style. The song Alison Hell is also excellent.
@@TuomoSjonberg Oh, true. It seems my brain deleted that one because I remember listening to it once and not liking the songs that much. He also appears on a live album.
Another great pic, these guys are local to me, Jeff Waters is such a fantastic guitarist/composer! Credit to the whole band though! RIP Randy Rampage(vocalist), he was also a local fixture, going back to the great punk band DOA
Dave Mustaine wanted Jeff Waters to be his lead guitarist in Megadeth, but Jeff refused twice! "Hi Dave" video: th-cam.com/video/XadnzskkNRs/w-d-xo.html Very talented and great guy all around, you can see his charisma and good character in all his live performances
Guys, I wanna recomend you an Argentinian band named Frater. Very professional guys and they just released their 3rd album in which I worked as Drum Tech. And they have two singers. One baritone/tenor (gutural and clean) and another baritone (clean only). The album's name is Sangre y Viento (Blood and Wind), and there's two songs wich are my favourite: Persiguiendo al Sol (Chasing the sun, as reference of Icarus) and the other one is Dias (Days) which has an incredible drum intro and doomy atmosphere. I hope that you can check them out (also, their first album is in english).
This is great, great, song. The two first Annihilator albums are every metalheads must have gems. There are a lot good stuff after them also like the albums King of the Kill, Carnival Diablos and Schizo Deluxe.
Annual prediction. I have no freaking clue. It's musically interesting enough I could see him appreciating it more than average but not sure how he's going to feel about them vocals. Another kind of tough one to hear for the first time
You guys should check out Annihilator's Phantasmagoria and The Fun Palace for more mind-bending stuff from this legend of what could be called psychedelic thrash!!
John Bates who co-wrote this song was the original singer back in the early 80’s when they were all based in Ottawa. John has his own material out there, but has gone in a totally different direction. His material is along the lines of rockabilly/Americana. Here is the link to his take on the song. th-cam.com/video/txLjWvLiN48/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zA5_B4bROTikiIev
One of the greatest albums and bands in metal world! As far as I know, Jeff Water has an academic education in jazz music and he brings a lot of these things to metal and that's cool! Check out Never,Neverland song next and thank you for videos :).
those 2 songs back to back are just amazing. i would put jeff waters up there with the hetfields and mustains as one of the best guitarists int he genre.
other great canadian thrash sacrifice - torment in fire and soldiers of misfortune are both great albums from end to end razor - pretty much every track - consistent output, all killer no filler exciter - heavy metal maniac fun fact if you were unawares, annihilator/sacrifice/exciter/razor are the four horsement of canadian thrash much like how metallica/megadeth/slayer/anthrax are their US counterparts not canadian (german i think) are a band called Stallion who have a song called Canadian Steele which is a love song to canadian thrash. not only that but Darkthrone has a song called Canadian Metal. the Canadian sound is definitely a thing (thor/anvil/hazzerd) which people who are unaware need to become aware
Razor is killer. Custom Killing and some of the 90s stuff isn’t for me but those first 4 albums are fucking insane. Sheepdog is one of my favorite metal frontmen
You mentioned the second one you should do. King of the Kill. Jeff thinks it´s the best they´ve done and I must agree. Though, Alice In Hell is what got me into Annihilator´s Waters 😁
Best songs on that record are Word Salad and Wicked Mystic Btw, vocalist Randy Rampage wasnt a singer, thats why many people dislike or dont care about his style, he was mainly a bass player in punk/hardcore bands if my memory serves well, and the cat sound "Alison" that Judson points is done by Jeff Waters, who worked a lot with untrained singers for the vocals I guess to have a different sound cos he already had a distinctive guitar tone and sound you can identify in most riffs and solos
The technical thrash metal realm is a world full of intrincate gems I recommend the untouchable era of Sadus Furious, technical in your face technical speed trash metal for Judson 🥰
Day 5 of requesting Diablo Swing Orchestra. Great pick. Annihilator is a very overlooked band. Never, Neverland is a strong album. Maybe do The Fun Palace next?
Hello, I propose the song Tarka and Ocarina by the band Los Jaivas, a group of Chilean origin, and it is a 13-minute instrumental piece that takes you through different styles such as classical folk rock jazz. I sincerely think that it is a piece that a musician will appreciate, in this case there is a lot of piano.
Nice, gettin' into Canadian thrash band, my turf. How long until you go for some Sacrifice or Razor? Sacrifice is a bit techy so that might be a better choice,at least at first, Razor had one techy album and it's so strangely recorded, even the remaster by the masters of remastering old 80's speed/thrash High Roller Records could barely save it, where they have a couple 10 mins+ songs, (album is Custom Killing). BTW, there is one Pantera song I'm sure would surprise Jutson a bit, you've never put on anything from Far Beyond Driven right? Shedding Skin man....that album is overlooked so much yet is my favorite. If only Annihilator kept on that first LP formula for a bit longer, I don't mind their more power/prog metal stuff but this is their best album still to this day.
Never thouhgt of it before but the song really feels like it's heavilly Megadeth and Iron Maiden influenced. Oh, Crystal Ann is probably a wordplay too. Crystalline - Crystal Ann.
The 10-Greatest Songs No One Is Covering... and Great Measures should. I was really digging it until the vocalist kicked in and I don't like the voice, but it's cool to be introduced to this band. Never really listened to them
People now can't imagine how innovative this song was at that time
its still on my smartphone before that on mp3 player before that on on still on the wall...
Jeff Waters was my hero growing up..
Huge Annihilator fan!!
Thanks for this
I stole part of the guitar line from the beginning of Allison Hell for a bass line in one of my band's songs
He now lives in the UK only 30 mins drive from my house.
Jeff waters is a goddamn underrated genius
@@BeaverdamMan you’re thinking of Jeff young

He performed some of the greatest technical solos ever. ****ing awsome guitarist.
There's Mercyful Fate spirit in this song
Underrated gem I'd love to see old In Flames here, maybe Jotun , Zombie Inc or Colony
