      Glad to hear it, though it's a little outdated now.

      @@mccoydtromb I just checked that the MIDI Import Panel is absent in MuseScore 4. Do you have any suggestions on how to clean up a MIDI file like this? Is there something similar here to the function of Renotate performance in Sibelius?

      @@YevheniiDubovyk In MuseScore 4 you can go to Edit>Preferences, Import tab, then scroll down to MIDI and choose the shortest note, which performs a similar function to Sibelius's renotate performance, but doesn't include the no triplets option, unfortunately.

    Am I correct to understand that this feature is missing in MuseScore 4.1 and might be a reason to keep version 3 alongside 4?

    • @mccoydtromb

      The dialogue is no longer there (not that it worked too well in 3, which may be why it was removed). If you're looking for import quantizing settings, you can now do this in Edit>Preferences>Import. At the bottom is the MIDI section where you can select the shortest note to allow. All of the other renaming of instruments and changing the sound used can be done just as easily in the score view in MU 4, in my opinion.

    excellent video! very useful. Do you have more examples for us to learn how to clean other midis with musescore? is version 4.0 better for cleaning midis?

    Hi David, thanks for this! But... when i load a midi file into musescore, the midi import panel doesn't appear and I can't seem to find it anywhere in the settings to call it up. Which shortcut opens the midi editor panel?

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. That is very odd. On mine there is a button at the bottom of the MuseScore window that says "Show MIDI import panel" if I close the panel. If that's not showing, check that you are using the latest version. Mine is 3.6.2

    • @shookmusic
      @shookmusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not showing up at mine as well, latest version

    • @mccoydtromb

      In MuseScore 4 they seem to have done away with this panel (fair enough, it didn't do much by the end!). Now you can go to Edit>Preferences>Import. Under MIDI, you can select the minimum note duration that MuseScore will use, which is pretty useful.
      As far as I know you can still access the panel in 3.6.2

    I can import my midi into muse score fine, but when I do, I do not see an import window at the bottom of the screen like you have.

      Because this video was made with musescore 3. I guess it's time for an update video!
      I think someone else in the comments found some of the similar settings for midi import in musescore 4.

    Sadly the new MuseScore 4 adds everything as Piano without any import settings panel.

    • @mccoydtromb

      You're right, there's no panel, but I just tried importing MIDI in MuseScore 4 and it found General MIDI instruments, so it might just be that particular MIDI file you imported. Perhaps it's not a GM file. Also, you can go to Edit>Preferences>Import and select the minimum note value when importing MIDI, so there's some hope for quantizing.

    So I have a big problem. If I import all my individual MIDI files, it creates a separate tab/document/piece of paper for each voice. And if I import my master MIDI file, it puts all the voicing on one single staff. Unworkable mess either way. Do you know a workaround by any chance? Tnx for the video though

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's very unusual! Have you exported the MIDI files from other software? Perhaps it's a setting in there. I've just tried importing a MIDI file from the internet and all of the instruments import fine.
      I guess you could import the individual files and one at a time copy them over to corresponding empty instruments in a master score... but depending on the size of the file that's going to take really long.
      Would you like to send me a MIDI file to have a look?

    Can the "MIDI Import Panel" appear again after pressing SAVE?

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you can, but it would reimport the midi file and overwrite any changes you'd made since then. If you've discovered some sections that need fixing but don't want to lose what you've worked on then you're probably better off saving what you've got, reimporting the midi file and copy and pasting those sections into your saved file.

  • @bruceboome
    @bruceboome ปีที่แล้ว

    My frustration is that, as far as I can tell, you can't export the midi file you've edited,

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luckily you can! Just save the musescore file (not even sure if you need to do this, but good practice), then file, export, MIDI file.

      I'm afraid I can't remember where I got these MIDI files from. A Google search on the titles + "MIDI free download" should do it!
