    very nice cold start. a true cold start is when you got problems you got to solve first before it will start.

    The cloud of smoke from a successful diesel cold start is a cloud of awesomeness signifying triumph over the forces there to keep you from your goal.

    yet another neat old engine ,and a great video too ,,i love seeing these antiques brought back to life ,i personally don't have any this old , my favorite of all my oddball engines is a 1945- 1950 era detroit power unit 3-71 it's only 65 horsepower but it sounds cool under a load ,currently set up to run a 20KW generator

  • @ron827

    The roadster coming at the beginning of the video and going at the end is a nice touch. Very symbolic! Sharing fails is just as important as the successes, thanks. Glad you did not paint the Witte up like new because an old engine should look old just like us old pharts. :-) There is beauty in old equipment.

      They saved thousands of men and horses from back breaking work. I imagine this was used fir pumping water fir irrigation, mining and thrashing. The pre heating of the cylinder head is in lieu of an electric glow plug obviously spared the need for an electrical system. Probably more of a hot bulb engine than a true diesel. I imagine the engine ran on a variety of fuels such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene etc.

    I used to have a concrete mixer with a 1 cylinder Petter diesel engine. It didn't need any heat, even below freezing. Bought it to mix up about 20 tons of concrete for a 4-post lift base. It came with half a tank of diesel and still had most of that when I sold it. Very relaxing put put sound, although it didn't break a sweat with a 2 wheelbarrow load in the drum!

    The old hit and miss engines make one of the most relaxing sounds to me, especially some of the bigger ones. I wish I could remember this specific one that just had this perfect cadence. I'd sleep to that sound every night if I could find that again. Someone needs to make a loop recording and put it on one of the sleep sounds apps.

    Back in the 60's when I took auto and diesel mechanics at National Schools in Los Angeles, they had a 5 HP 1905 Witte that we practiced on. It was fun to get it running. Some years later some fool left a wrench inside it, under the cover above the crank and it broke some gears. I heard they sold it for scrap metal.

    We had an old 4 cylinder gardner diesel on our boat. To start it we had to put ether into the air intake!!

  • @alejandromartinez8232
    @alejandromartinez8232 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ese sonido del aire escapando al hacer la compresión que hace que "se pierda el aire"y su posterior endurecimiento del giro en el tiempo de "expansión que no existe" es causado por una fuga en una o ambas válvulas escape o admisión que pueden ser que estén picadas o su asiento lesionado o irregular; te sugiero hacer un asentamiento de válvulas. También revisa que no haya juego o huelgo en las guías de válvulas y los vástagos de éstas. Ese motor sin fuga en sus válvulas y asientos, y sin huelgo en guías de válvulas y sin juego en los vástagos arranca muy fácil.

    Ever see a Bigfoot? A highway demolition tool, or a ground-packer. I could feel one hit the ground from a quarter-mile away, before I saw it being towed by a Cat along Harlem Ave. out near Willow Springs Illinois. It was crushing the roadway to be hauled off. A big tall vertical one-cylinder Diesel hammer much like a pile-driver. I had to stop and ask someone how it worked! A shot of fuel was injected as the weight inside came down. It detonated and sent the weight back up to the top. It imparted an enormous impact on the cement of the road surface!

    We had one of these that turned the generator for electricity. Ran day and night for years on end. Only shut down to change oil, belts and or brushes in the generator. But when it neded to be rebuilt....cost an arm and a leg. Wasn't too easy on fuel either. It could make you think you were never going to get it restarted at times.

    You must get up very early to go to your jobplace with this engine 😊 ( it's not an HDi or dCi model 😁 that's starts with only a key )
    It runs really "round"
