      dlrarmy welll.... I haven’t seen the video your referencing ... but I have a 500exc....and it did flame out bad until I put a programmer on it drilled out the screen on the muffler endcap and deleted the emissions.... got even better when I took the silly reeds out of the intake ... and changed the fuel filter out... stock ... I was kinda disappointed with the 500... but after I did what I did... it is now the bike I believed I was buying.

      @dlrarmy Yeah he does stall a shit load of times its was pretty bad. I don't believe a good rider on a 4 stroke would stall that many times. He was boggin the shit out of it

    He used a 16 350xcf, and a 17 300. The 17 ktms have much better forks. Would like to see the 17s compared, I think it would flip a couple of the riders to the other side.

    the nod for me is the 350 fuel injection is always spot on no need to re jet or fouled plugs better ride quality does not deflect over roots and rocks perfect power delivery

    Not surprised but some folks are saying last years carb setup was better word is that the Mikuni carb has issues also a bad reed cage! Electron carb and force v reeds are in order

    Wish you did some Videos of test riding back East. steep hills and slick roots, I was really wanting to step into the 4 stroke game, the more videos I watch has me leaning to the 300 xc-w tpi. I like the idea of the oil injection. my question is, well two questions, the best fuel to use (pump gas or race gas) and the best oil for the injection system? I know Maxima makes some as does Klotz.

    I noticed a lot of your riders making the front suspension a main focal point when explaining they preferred the 300. Of course the 300 has the new WP 48 AER where as the 350 has the 4cs fork. It would have been a lot better if you had actually compared both 2017 models so the poor fork of the 2016 350 wouldn't have been an issue. Nice video none the less.

    Cool video, thank you.
    Both are great bikes, but if the trail is truly gnarly, the 2T wins hands down. 2Ts don't boil over easily, and the 300 grunts off idle like crazy, and the engine's smoothness is eerie. It is truly strange to ride a 2T and not have my hands go numb.
    The 350 has a never ending holy sh%t top end, but I am not good enough to use that. The 300 is plenty fast when it is on the pipe. The 300 is cake to maintain too compared to a 4 stroke. I like that the XC still has a carb and I did choose - just bought an '18 300 XC!
    What, no video comment on the crazed Bambi at 3:15? :P

    The 17 models were a major revamp in both 2 stroke and 4 stroke, new engines, less weight and different suspension. Be good to see a 17 350 up against the 300, apples vs apples. The 2 stroke is always going to be lighter and better in the really gnarly stuff, I'm just curious if the changes to the 17 350 closed the gap a bit more.

    I wish modern two-strokes had an oil reservoir. I often go on 2-6 day off-road rides, and for that reason a 2-stroke isn't useful. I used to have a KDX but carrying a bunch of oil bottles adds a lot of weight to a rider's backpack and takes up limited space. I know they're not designed for multi-day events with far away gas stops, but having a reservoir would be pretty nice.

I'm now on a Husky 501 which is a great bike but for more open terrain. Next time the budget allows for a change out the 300 KTM or Husky it top on my list.

    I realize this video is a bit dated but I have the same question for all of these 300XC vs. 350XCF comparisons - Why not compare to the 350XCF-W?? Most complaints about the thumper relates to stall outs which you really don't have with the wide ratio transmission.

    Nice. Would like to see a 2017+ 250xcf vs 2017+ 250xc. I don’t want to race open class nor do I want to ride anything over a 250 in the woods. Hay I like my 450’s as much as anyone but the GNCC champ rides a 250xcf for a reason. Russel has his choice of Kim factory bikes and he preferred the 350xcf for a couple years until he was shown the lap times... he was faster on the 250xcf 90% of the time. Anywho, please do the 250 4t vs 2t please.

    This doesnt seem very fair. Most of the complaints about the 350 seemed to stem from the suspension which was changed to AER forks in 2017 (which the 300 in this video has). Both bikes should have been 17's

  • @savagesalvage4957
    @savagesalvage4957 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like if I didn't just buy a Ducati to rebuild, I would get the 350. Not because I'm against 2 strokes I love them, I'm just a heavy rider, and most of my riding is high speeds trails with wider banked turns (wide relatively, my trails are about 4 feet wide vs a single track having basically a 1 foot wide trail) so most of the time I'm in the woods at around 30-45 mph with some jumps I put in with the bulldozer. The more firm suspension sounds like it would be better for those jumps and to not bottom out and stay firm during the high speed banked corners. Too bad I'll have to wait until mid summer or even next spring before I have the funds again for another motorcycle :(
    Great video though, glad to see more than one person riding it both bikes, especially since they are of varying heights and weights. Earned yourself a subscriber just for that.

    I get a kick out of the new riders who grew up on 4 strokes thinking they are faster than 2 strokes, as a former AMA Expert License holder in both 125cc and 250cc Motocross back when 2 strokes were the standard in motocross, when the AMA decided they wanted to go to 4 strokes they made the 2 strokes run in the up class, so 125cc 2 strokes had to run in the 250cc class and the 250cc 2 strokes had to run in the 450cc class...and even then for the first few years the 2 strokes were still competitive.

  • @johnpaulstez

    Haha....well. I have a 300xc on order, but the dealer has NO CLUE when it might arrive. With some of the jetting issues with the 300, I went in this past Tuesday intent on walking out with one of the floor model 350's. I got convinced to wait for the 300.

      put jd jetting kit on mine worked like a charm might do lectron next year

    • @johnpaulstez
      @johnpaulstez 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! People are just all over the place with the jetting. Some people say that the stock jetting works fine, other people say the JD kit fixed it, other people say the JD kit made it worse. Some people are saying lectron solved, it but had to be tuned a little richer, Jeff slavens doesn't quite have his lectron dialed yet. Another guy said that the problem is that the Reeds don't seal so he replaced them with aftermarket, the air box is too closed up, so he drilled holes in his plastic, then he filed the little slot in the bottom of the carburetor slide so that it would transition better off of idle. He then said once that was all done that the stock jetting chart worked much better and the bike pulled very strongly similar to last year's model. INSANITY! I'm glad yours is straightened out though man.

    Just look to which platform the pros ride in hard enduro or enduro x racing. The 2t cant be beat when the going gets ugly, if that is your thing. I know alot of guys that have had top end issues with the 350f. Big money and they were not ridden hard by average trail riders.

Do you want a weekend warrior that is out of shape but can still ride pumping a full out four stroke 450 going through single tracks and going over crazy obstacles? Hell no. So situate you test in a much better manner.

    what a fucked comparison, 16 350 V's 17 300 is a no brainer. For trail riding the 350 is not that great but racing is another story. All the 17 bikes are lighter than their previous models so they already put the 350 on the back foot. I would possibly consider the 300 now it has a balance shaft but if I was looking at a 16 model it would be a 450 or 500exc

    Kick ass review. you nailed it. I wish they'd stay allowing 300cc and 350cc 2T to race the 450F class. such a punk assed move by the AMA to basically try and kill off the 2T.
    I'm glad you guys see the light.
    4T are for novices and less athletically inclined.
