He was massive in Australia at the time and had quite a few hit singles. Sweet Sweet Love, Wings of an Eagle, Rachel, Mr America, were all huge. I was a kid at the time, he was great!
Around the year 2000 we had a intimate corporate function / dinner in our showroom for selected clients. There were around 60-70 people in total and the band for the night was Cotton, Keyes & Morris. My table was at the front and we were treated to some of the finest Australian rock musicians to come out of our country. RIP Darryl Cotton and Jim Keyes. Russell's still rockin ......... one of the best evenings I ever spent "at work" !!!
@@jayjayjase9796 yes, l would believe that, but Molly got the last laugh. He became the springboard and conduit by which Australian music was taken to the world and the lastest world music was showcased to Australia
This video version from 1969 cut out towards the end as there was more visual, not just the photo of him. Now, you need to hear the sequel, "Part 3 Into Paper Walls", which I think is even better in many ways. He has just recently performed about 10 sold-out concerts around Australia with his 10 -piece band & a full 54 piece Symphony orchestra & the recordings went to No. 1 in Australia.. not bad for an old-timer.
The record label wanted to trash the recording when they heard it. Ian meldrum had spent ages recording it phasing sounds of hitler youth marcges. The record co. Wanted a 2 minute am radio song and were annoyed at how much money had gone into this one . Ian known as molly grabbed the master and ran out of the building....screaming no you are not destroying this its a masterpiece.
Of note, Molly was also instrumental in the breaking of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper in Australia. His engineering, production and talent spotting skills are renowned world wide

I remember when this first came out. It was so different.
Russell is one amazing artist still
❤
Russell is still performing and recording...doing some great blues mostly about Oz and history. Getting better with age. Sharkmouth is a great album.
Sharkmouth is excellent.
I've always been shocked this didn't get to be a hit in the States.
It also achieved success in the United States, reaching the top of the charts in Chicago, Houston, and New York City

He also did chilled out folky love songs too. Great singer ❤
Aussie legend!!!!!!!
Reminds me of Shawn Phillips, Barry Ryan and Peter Frampton. Very much of its time!
Russell still preforms to this day
As mentioned by others he has many hits
Melbourne born, went to Richmond Tech
Produced by Ian "Molly" Meldrum giving it, um, everything
Also engineered by Molly
The record company thought Molly had lost his mind ..
