No, in those times people did not think it was gay, people cried for their friends, because let's face it, we don't have what we have today, social media (which is cancer), the internet, matchmaking sites, cellphones to call our friends over the ocean, ton of friends, entertainment at our fingertips such as we have now, family which Charles did not have, his family was Kenway. Back then people valued friendship much more than now.

I didn't like AC3 that much. Except for Charles Lee. The voice actor really did a great job. The ones who wrote his lines as well. A great character and the best bad guy in a Assassin's Creed game to me.
Is scene hits so much harder after playing rogue. Assassins have been purged for quite a few years. And the Templars had full control of the colonies Connor single-handedly in one revolution, took it from them

Looking back when people said connor lacked humor or he was too serious looking at it now it makes sense why connor would be serious all the time. How could a man who has so much to lose even manage a small joke here and there? He simply can't. Connor is a tragic character since no matter what he does not matter how righteous his choices are in the end his people are driven away. I think what could of helped was to have his more of his younger version be more naive and gullible. He gets cheated and doesn't realize it until told then he could do some silly stuff like maybe idk tell the robber that what he did was wrong and have Sam, Achilles or any other just face palm. Then when he growns he becomes the serious connor
It's weird how Shay never returned to the Colonies. When the pre-cursor box was recovered, The Templars still had the leverage.
Shay wasn’t even a thought yet when they made assassin’s creed three. But they definitely lined it out for a potential sequel. I hope in infinity will be able to see that maybe the war of 1812 or the Napoleon crusades. Like I said, I’m holding my fingers on infinity to see what future games they have in store because they said they’re going to connect all the games so
While it's true that Charles didn't destroy Connor's village, I still didn't like him. From the moment I met him in the game and throughout the game in fact, it seemed like just a kiss ass. Like a boy trying to impress his daddy. Overall, the way he talks, his demeanor, and his behavior still shows that there's a seething monster inside.
I think that's the overall idea, the way you point out Charles Lee being a suckup to Haytham. He was pretty much like the son Haytham always wanted, a loyal to the bone templar, but instead he merely had a rebellious assassin for a son which is why he still chose to protect Charles even to the death, not only because of their matching agendas but because of their history and working relationship together
This is why we neurotypicals are scary. Men with strong emotions are the most highly effective and unstoppably efficient thing on the planet. Not sociopaths. Not psychopaths. But *THIS*.

Edward would have loved Connor since Connor was a Kenway, ship captain and master assassin, all of which Edward are too.
Edward would've stopped Haytham from joining the Templar Order and would be very proud of Connor due to him joining the Assassin Brotherhood. However, should Connor have already killed Haytham, Edward would be extremely disappointed in him yet would understand why Connor had to do so as his father / Edward's son had to join the allegiance all of their shared enemies the Templars.
