Getting this edit completed on time was a collaborative effort. One byproduct of multiple "cooks in the kitchen" is sometimes slight errors are introduced. One I have been made aware is a moment where our hosts video disappears for 4 seconds. Just wanted to let ya'll know that we know. 😂 It was a booboo. Meant to turn the movie full screen for those 4 seconds, but whoopsie. Anyway, hope ya'll enjoy! This is a movie I watched multiple times in a row when it first came out and I was very excited at the opportunity to have Achara and Michael watch it.

Is Achara Single ?
The king kong speach wasnt scripted it was Denzel just having a moment lol
Unk was in the zone in that scene! Just think how many actors he’s created outta that neighborhood watchin a master at work that night;
Has to be hard to argue with your dad if he can come up with something like this on the fly.
@@comedianhaze1619 they were all actors lol.. it's LA, prior to youtube and social media... everyone trying to get screen time to get into SAG.
@@rpnp2background gang members in the film are actual gang members from that area. They filmed in the actual
Neighborhoods, they got permission from the gang members to film there and part of the deal was they were put in the movie. Terry Crews was just watching them film and was put on Screen cuz of how big he was.
I saw him do that in person. Used to work craft service. It was Great Debaters, a different movie. He was directing and was making a point to the other actors. FULL CHILL BUMPS! Like everyone on set. That man can act! Did the actor’s lines for his debate immediately followed by his King Kong ain’t got… lines. Powerful stuff. Only like 15 people in the room, but we were in complete silence after it happened
and that folks is why Denzel got an Oscar for this role !
He had better performances beforehand but yah
@dariusthegr8one81 This performance was different than his other characters, we had never seen him be a villian. This role showed his range and brilliant abilities as an actor. By the way, the writer and producer said in an interview that Denzel improvised some lines that they kept in the movie.
@@Winnib7479shoulda got it for Malcolm X
@@Winnib7479 this is the go to line for ppl that havent seen a lot of Denzel’s catalog. He damn near played 3 different characters in Malcolm x because of the things that happened in his life. He wasn’t a saint in he got game or mo better blues either. But all that’s talked about from him is this role and glory. It’s truly annoying.
@@dariusthegr8one81I have seen every movie that Denzel has done since " Carbon Copy " . I understand your thoughts , however, you cannot negate the fact that THIS ROLE is much different than his others. Denzel , the actor's in the movie , as well as the producer and directors acknowledged this pertinent fact in interviews. I think that their opinion speaks volumes. Have an awesome weekend .😊
Terry Crews actually said this non speaking role is what changed his life, he started getting calls after this, he didn't even audition. He was there with a friend and the director spotted him and asked if he wanted to be in it
He was the one calling the pigeons, but we couldn't see his face. 😊
and then White chicks cemented his legendary status
Both actors killed this. I literally felt every facial expression. As great as the "King Kong" speech was, Denzel's eyes told the true story. From cocky, to arrogant, to anger, and then finally fear. Incredible
One TH-cam commentator mentioned the backseat shot in the car was Denzel lying or hiding something, while the front seat shot was him telling the truth or being forward. Great Acting Regardless.
Another thing a lot of people missed was that Rodger was Alonzo’s training officer, that’s why the first time they went to his house he told Alonzo “you used to be just like him”. Rodger was always a crooked cop but in his case over time he was able to slowly turn Alonzo crooked and it reached a point where Rodger felt he could trust Alonzo, so when Rodger eventually retired from the force THAT’S why Alonzo had knowledge of where he stashed his money from all those years of ill gotten gains from the street. At the restaurant when the “Wiseman” (crooked police captains and a district attorney) asked Alonzo how did he expect to get out of his situation with the Russians he told them he was going to cash in “an old account” meaning Rodger. When Rodger was still on the force he had connections to crooked high ranking officials that HE paid off (remember Rodger was just an “account” to them) and he passed those connections on to Alonzo. The mistake Alonzo made was that he also tried to turn Jake the way Rodger turned him but the difference was Rodger had more than a day for this process and Alonzo was trying to do this in less than 24hrs, remember Alonzo’s original plan WAS NOT to kill Jake, it only changed when Alonzo finally realized he wasn’t going to be able to do it, there’s a lot of layers in this movie and one viewing isn’t gonna do it but bravo to both Ethan and Denzel, Ethan was also nominated for best supporting actor for the Oscar but didn’t win but Denzel won the Best Actor Oscar for this same movie.
Thank you for this. Never realized all these points
Dope break down. Well done
Denzel letting everyone know that he could put the bad guy character actors out of business if he really wanted to. Unreal performance.
One TH-cam commentator mentioned the backseat shot in the car was Denzel lying or hiding something, while the front seat shot was him telling the truth or being forward. Great Acting Regardless.
"You can't intimidate them anymore. You just got shot in the ass!"
lol Achara never fails to make me laugh.
Yes, we all know that kills your street cred, unless you are Forest Gump.
At the end when the Russians first shoot Alonzo, he's struggling to breathe, then they kill him. The director said that Alonzo struggling to breathe was to draw a parallel to when he shot Roger earlier and Roger was struggling to breathe.

Jesus. Denzel looked damn good in this movie. He won an Oscar for this too. Well deserved. Awesome reaction!
You know Denzel had fun with this one. A great actor playing a great actor. LAYERS!
Fun fact: This was Terry Crews first film appearance. He was working as a security guard for the set and they cast him as an extra. It really made his career take off
Fun fact No.2 this is not Terry Crews first role in a movie,in fact his first role was in The 6th Day in 2000 excuse me first appearance
@KenDavis-d2h Oops, lol. My bad. I wasn't aware of that movie. Thanks for educating me ✌️
Fun fact #3 Crews also pair for the SD Chargers.
Hoyt actually doing what a cop is SUPPOSED to do, saved his life with the Vatos.
Reality check here. Hoyt did what we think he's supposed to do.
The ever popular LAPD motto "to protect and serve" is not their duty. They don't even use it anymore. The Supreme Court has ruled on several instances that the police have NO obligation to protect any individual citizen. They could have seen this heinous crime happening and kept going if without any legal recourse. Real police have done worse.
Yup.
Denzel made me forget I loved him in this movie; deserved the Oscar. Ethan deserved one also.
Not sure if you guys noticed this but the woman they robbed with the fake warrant was singer Macy Grey

In light of the United Healthcare CEO being slain, I think John Q is an absolute must watch.
Exceptional film!
When I first learned of that news, John Q was my first thought! “Someone did a real life John Q” only they went to the “source”…. Sad
absolutely
People should watch John Q instead of CNN and Fox news. Spare 2 hours and go watch bs news again
Speaking of this... I seen someone say that the time in the morning it was done , the shooter had to know police shift change, which means less cops out. This explains why he was able to go from ebike, to taxi, to bus, and then alakazam poof! 😳
I remember my first time seeing Denzel in “man on fire” I still cry watching the ending till this day😭
I always kinda hoped for a sequel that had him surviving somehow. Creasy!!!
And then to have him and Dakota again in Equalizer 3 was great!!
That's a good movie, too.
What's really going to blow your mind is how much of Denzel's lines were ad lib.
Yep
What's really going to bake your noodle later on is, would you still like the movie if I hand't said anything.
Notice that Jake going against every advice Alonzo gave him, saved his life.
Denzel really should have won an Oscar for Malcom X. Please add this to your Black Cinema list ❤❤❤

First time I saw her was in Will Smith music video 🤣
There was never an opening in Denzel's (Alonzo's) unit. Jake was being allowed in to be the patsy the whole time.
I'm guessing it was more than a week before Alonzo got in trouble with the Russians that Jake really was planned to be in the group but Alonzo getting in trouble changed things. Also had Jake played along Alonzo let's him live however Jake didn't take the money or play along so Alonzo had to kill him
@@rxtsec1Alonso basically uses people until he no longer needs them. He even told Jake as much right after he killed Roger while they were in the car. Pretty sure even his own guys he’d throw under the bus if necessary.
@@flanagamer if needed but why would he kill his own men. They were clearly with him and Jake could have been with him had he not resisted
I don't think so. He embarked him into the assault to bring him to the turning point.
Alonzo wanted to see if he could dirty his hands so he could stay in his unit.
I just feel Alonso is that confident into himself and his ways to corrupt people.
Otherwise there wouldn't have been any training day at all. Any new member would have to be in it. Otherwise they would see Alonzo dirty secrets. The timetable was short so he brought him directly into a big mess. And beforehand he drugged him, in case of it didn't turn well. So he had 2 ways of blackmailing Jake and force him to accept.
@@fellowkrieger457 Did Alonzo ever want Jake in the unit? At Roger's house, he admitted that he needed Jake to take the blame for shooting Roger because he needed a "virgin shooter above reproach" for the subsequent internal investigation. He might have only needed Jake for that, and never really wanted him for anything more, but I've never been able to decide.
fun fact, the pelican bay scene was off script. denzel came up with all that and they kept the cam rolling 🔥
Alonzo gave up Hoyt to the gang because he opposed him at every turn, trying to do the right thing by the book. And he didn't take the bribe, which in front of his unit of corrupt cops makes him a liability. He set him up with the drugs and sworn testimony from his unit about Roger even if he survived. Fall guy or a soldier. Either way, he had him between a rock and a hard place.
No duh, bro

Fun Fact:
This movie was supposed to be called Rampart named after The Rampart Unit scandal involving a number of LAPD officers who were linked to drug dealing, street gangs, and the gangsta rap underworld.
But they threatened the film producers and ultimately the title was changed to Training Day
There is a movie called Rampart starring Woody Harrellson.
@reneedennis2011 Yep, from 2011. I guess by then LAPD took a softer stance

Speaking with the wise men is the only time we see Alonso being a small fish, and not feeling like the top dog :) Love this movie so much
"The Magnificent 7" staring Denzel and Ethan
And Chris Pratt
Under rated Gem
That's a good movie. I watched it on a flight ✈️ from ATL to Seattle.
The expression on Denzel's face when his character's badge is taken, devastatingly showed how the scales finally fell away for Alonzo and all of the manipulation, planning, and control he had been displaying all day now amounted to nothing.
Denzel's character is the ultimate narcissist. He manipulates Jake throughout the movie up until Jake finally turns on him, but Lonzo also manipulates us (the viewers) as well. It's what I love the most about how well Denzel delivered his role. Brilliant and well-deserved Oscar!
Denzel Washington was iconic in this and Ethan Hawke also delivered an absolutely great performance, but Eva Mendes just was something else...
Thekids name is Denzel Whitaker. He stars in The great Debaters alongside Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker
So fun watching folks see this film for the first time; and Michael is always a fav 😊 Great reactions from you both, and I hope you get to dive into some more Denzel films you might not have seen.
Dang, I can't believe how long you guys thought Denzel was actually trying to help him become detective! Even after he shot Roger you still thought it was part of his training!
That’s how good Denzel played the role. You know he is corrupt, but the whole time he is trying to sell it that he is doing it for a good cause. That he is playing the game from within and the whole time you know you should not trust him, but there’s little doubt that he is telling the truth about that. Great acting and story telling from the director.
@EDTGO1 or people are so dense 😂
This movie is like a Rorshach test for the audience: at what point do you turn on Alonzo? Did it take until he contracted to kill his own partner, or was it during one of his multiple earlier felonies that the movie showed for the prior 90 minutes before that?
It was mostly Anchara. 😂 The give away to Alonso being a POS is on the beginning. Rookie was happy about a DUO arrest, meanwhile Alonso wanted to know if he banged his training leader.
Thst alone shoes zero integrity or interest in getting bad guys off the street.
Good, you saved me time from watching this. I can't stand people this naive and dense.
Fun fact* At the end when Denzel was giving the King Kong aint got ish on me speech. That was actually improv. He went off script for that one.
In the deleted scenes Alonzo tells jake a story about one situation he witnessed as a rookie that pretty much shaped who he currently is. I dont know why they cut it out
Damn, never pieced together that Jake was the snail! The way you described the symbolism with what Jake went through with what the snail went through was spot on! Can’t believe I never put that together when it was so obvious!
Alonzo's girl was his baby mama, not his wife. He explains it as they're going up the stairs the first visit to her apartment. She is the lovely Eva Mendes. Check her out in "Ghost Rider"(2007) with Nic Cage and in "All About the Benjamins"(2002) with Ice Cube. Did u guys notice Dr Dre as "Paul", the dirty cop with the braids?
I love her in Hitch with Will Smith too.
@@nascreates3392 oh that’s right! Forgot about that one 😊
This movie have so many layers to it, if you blink you will miss it. Denzel (Alonzo )was setting up Ethan (Jake) from the jump. I love this movie, so well written. Denzel the icon.
Antoine Fuqua confirmed when he saw Jake beating up the 2 guys in the alley, Alonzo changed his mind and wanted him on his team. It wasn't until he robbed Scott Glenn he realised he couldn't corrupt Jake, after that scene you see Alonzo on the phone say "just make sure that bathtub is clean" which is when he called the gangsters to organise the hit on Jake for the next scene at the house
@@yippykiyay89oh I did not know Antoine Fuqua made this statement. Oh damn. Thanks you for this information.

In a recent interview, the director said that Denzel improvised most of his lines.
So did Ethan hawke
Arguable one of Denzel’s most iconic performances!!! Can’t believe Michael hadn’t heard about it! I memorized the speech at the end before I’d even seen the full movie lol
Denzel Washington's acting at the end of this movie was exquisite especially when he says "King Kong ain't got Sh*t on Me!" Denzel definitely deserved an Academy Award for this movie
i threw my head back and laughed out hard when you said you cant intimidate anyone anymore, you just got shot in the ass LMAO!
I feel like this movie is kinda like about karma. You do good and good will come back to you. Ethan rescuing the girl was practically the saving grace for him. What an amazing movie. Amazing work from Denzel and Ethan, and the debut of Terry Cruz. What a classic.
Personally, this is my favorite performance from Denzel Washington. And as great as Washingon's Oscar-winning performance is, this film doesn't work without Ethan Hawke's authentic performance as the naive and idealistic Jake Hoyt. Every one of Jake's reactions to Alonzo's insane behavior are spot on acting by Hawke. Hawke's Best Supporting Actor nomination was well-deserved.
Denzel slays me in this role. You see his eyes watering in the car after the robbery? My God this manis so good! This role has so many layers! How does he do it?
KING KONG AIN'T GOT SHIT ON ME!!
YOU JUST LIVE HERE
One of the craziest movies I’ve ever watched in a good way! Denzel Washington definitely played the role of a corrupt officer well 👍
"roll snoop roll" has more than one meaning man!😂😂
Every minor detail played a huge role in the movie. For example, the menu that was placed on the windshield that Alonso asked Jake to grab before Jake got in Alonso's car the first time was what was used as the fake warrant to steal the money from Sandman.... Absolute genius.
When you shoot a semi automatic handgun, the shell casing is ejected from the right side, and it's very hot. If you're shooting 2 semi automatic pistols at the same time, you'd turn them sideways so the spent, hot shell casings hit the ground instead of your hand.
@@G3rnsback that’s so interesting. Thanks for clarifying 😊
@Achara the jungle is in Baldwin village in l.a. . It's a blood street gang neighborhood and cops back in the 90's literally feared going into the neighborhood without multiple cops.
@@Acharathe actor who told Jake he had his back is a former blood gang member and was an advisor on set and actually got real blood members to play extras in the jungle scenes
Seeing as a shell casing is going up and out. It would not hit your hand so this "explanation " makes no sense.
No real shooter would shoot a gun sideways, or even use two pistols like that. You will loose any accuracy beyond 5 meters.
That's just done for movie looks.
And even if a casing hits your hand like that you will feel it. But it will only burn you if it gets stuck between your clothes.
@@VeryFastRodi There's a video somewhere on TH-cam where an expert marksman tries shooting a pistol "gangster style", aka sideways like Alonzo, and it's highly inaccurate because of the way the gun recoils. When you shoot vertically, your hand position on the grip makes the recoil go straight up and it's relatively easy to bring it back to level with gravity, but when you shoot sideways, the gun recoils to the side and twists so it's harder to bring it back on target.
The girl that was being R was on Saved by the Bell the New Class back in 94 so it was awhile since she was 14.
Lol right
@rashadwalker8218 when i saw it in the theaters and he said she was 14 I was thinking "yeah, she was 14 eight yrs ago."
Denzel’s Oscar for this is well deserved. Masterclass acting. Everyone came to deliver.

It's referenced a few times, by Jake and the corrupt cop played by Tom Berenger, but this movie was made fairly soon after the Ramparts police scandal. In fact, Denzel modeled Alonzo's behavior off the example of the main player in that situation, Rafael Perez. The Monte Carlo's tag was a direct allusion to Perez.

The entire iconic King Kong speech was totally adlibed. Antoine Fuqua talks about it in one of his interviews. Kind of an "act like a tree" moment from acting class. Of course Denzel undoubtedly SMASHES each line. This will go down in cinematic history of one of the best movies ever.

Producer Guy: "So, you got a movie for me?" Screenwriter Guy: "Yes sir, I do. It's called Training Day 2. It picks up immediately where the first left off. So Alonzo and Jake actually meet up again." PG: "Didn't Alonzo die?" SG: "Well sir, he's a beloved character in a popular movie, so... No. He didn't."
But it's based on an actual person who is dead, lol
… … … Denzel is still alive and kicking. In fact he recently took out some Russians who were going after his local Home Depot too.
I love this move and as a kid this was my intro to Denzel and his acting skills 🔥 everyone kept saying his quotes in class 😂
This movie was like a "WHOA" moment for everyone because I think this might be the first time we got to see Denzel Washington play a bad gut. By the way, Eva Mendez was not his wife. She is one of his "honeys". If you liked this you'll probably like "Out of Time". He's a cop in that movie too
And they're married in that one.
And Sanaa Lathan is in it!
Another great reaction! I didn’t know what to expect from this movie but I, like most people, LOVED Denzel’s performance in this movie, he really devoured this role. That Oscar truly had his name on it despite how some people feel about him being the villain. We really need to get a move on these Christmas movies guys!😩 Come on, I want to see The Best Man Holiday next, This Christmas, A Madea Christmas, Almost Christmas, even though Thanksgiving has passed but I think we can fit Soul Food next too!! Of course, I’m just asking nicely lol.
With all the cameos you only noticed Snoop & Terry Crews (Who was the one directing the pigeons earlier)
*Eva Mendes*
*Snoop Dogg*
*Dr Dre*
*Macy Grey*
*Terry Crews*
*Noel Gugliemi*
Finally! Denzel got an Oscar for this movie
Alonzo is the definition of a gaslighter
@trappestarrgaming3422 probably next to Henry Hill in Goodfellas
@harvey4512 you ain't lying
Casting Denzel was a stroke of genius on par with casting Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West. In the latter case, it was the shock of the ultimate good guy playing a heinous villain. In this case, it means that Alonzo can cross SO many lines, and still keep the audience invested in the idea that he's just trying to toughen Jake up, WAY after everyone should've figured out that he's playing his own game from the jump. Because it's Denzel. The ultimate good guy. Our brains struggle to process the idea of him as the archetypal bad guy, and it makes viewers second guess their instincts over and over and over. It's the definition of perfect casting.
There is absolutely no planet in this universe where Ethan "stood toe to toe" with Denzel in this movie!!!! Denzel is literally one of the greatest actors of all time whilst Ethan is a okay actor. Denzel was so good he made everyone around him look better which on a very limited amount of people in history have ever managed to do.
It’s funny to watch these commentators essentially forgive all that Alonzo does 3/4 through the movie because he’s Denzel and he’s always playing a good character. Only until he’s truly unforgivable and obvious is when people are comfortable saying “ok he’s a bad guy” 😂
😂😂
I think it's additionally the combination of the title and Alonzo justifying the shit he does that also lullls the viewer into complacency. We're made to assume that the roughness is part of the implied training, especially with the "wolf speech" in consideration. It's only when Alonzo stops justifying himself (Roger's murder) that he swings into being perceived as the outright villain.
This movie is like a Rorshach test for the audience: at what point do you turn on Alonzo? Did it take all the way to him killing Roger and then contracting to have his own partner killed, or was it during one his multiple earlier felonies that he openly commits for 90 straight minutes?
Love your reactions the entire way through especially when you saw the wallet and the iconic scene of the denzel speech at the end.
This movie has one of the most important deleted scenes in cinema history. It’s a disservice to the viewer that it was cut. It was the only scene that humanized Alonzo.
'That is the second time you've pointed a gun at me, there will not be a third!' Is one of my favourite lines from any film
It's my first time watching a reaction from this channel and I loved it. You guys have earned my subscription, Thank you.
You know who Snoop Dogg is but you don't know who Dr.Dre is lol
🤣🤣🤣
Snoop's more popular
SNOOP is a global star both in & outside the US.
DR.DRE is a star also but very low-key
They forgot about Dre
@@billia_capo315 I see what you did there
Dopeeee. You guys gotta do the movie, John Q. It was another Denzel master class.
Alonzo made it out alive in the original script. But Denzel, a very moral man himself, insisted the character had to go down, lose his life. So the ending was changed.
I watched Training Day last week for about the 10th time. I watched it at the cinema when it came out. Your video popped up on my feed as I watch a lot of reaction videos of my favourite movies. You guys were great piecing the story together. A great movie and so well acted my Denzel and Ethan.
I’m glad y’all did this movie because it’s certain movies I cannot watch by myself first😂😂
Fun fact:Denzel Improvised that king kong scene, its the infamous scene that won him an Oscar. 😊😊🙌🏿🙌🏿💯💯
"He can still tussle despite being-"
"High!"
😅
Ethan Hawke was on PCP... He could've killed those two and not even realized it. It's highly dissociative and makes people pretty terrifying if they get worked up.
This movie is great. Incredible acting by Denzel and Ethan.
Y'all had the best reaction to this movie! Mad funny too.
24:20 You guys are 100% correct. How in the hell did you figure that out?
Whats funny/ironic is that _Demitri_ is played by an actor named _Denzel Whitaker..._ *AND HE WAS IN BLACK PANTHER!*
What's "ironic" is that _IN REAL LIFE_ he was named after *Denzel* Washington, and his first role in a film was with Denzel Washington...
And in _Black Panther_ he played a young *_Zuri,_* who was _Forest Whittaker's_ character... And his last name is _Whitaker._
So, _Denzel Whitaker_ got to be in movies with 2 legendary actors that share his namesake... (though Forest's last name is spelled with 2 t's). How crazy is that?
But good on ya for recognizing him.
