      My cousin didnt change her oil in her 97 Lumina for years. She said she thought it will blow up if she changed it. She passed it on to my brother, he changed the oil and it shot a rod out of of the engine a week later. Lol and that was the 3100. 3800 is way more bulletproof.

      @@mattevans8517 Interesting, was this same trans used in a 1997 Oldsmobile regency? That car had the series 1 3800, and had over 250,000 miles on it and was still running perfectly when we sold it with the stock engine and trans. We did have 2 plenum gasket replaced one was around 90,000 miles and the other one was around 190,000 miles.

      If it were a 97 Regency, it would have the series 2, not 1. Series 1 stopped in 94/95. Pretty much every fwd GM from 97+ had that trans. Even some 3100/3400 cars. I'm not denying that some held up. I had 2 of these fail on me (same problem) in 2 of my Regal GS'. One failed at 198k and the other 150k. Overall, though, they were a widespread failure.

    This brings back a few memories, when I was a kid my dad drove one of these after his Toyota pickup got crunched. He got rid of it after a few years because he "felt like an old lady" driving it to work. Id drive it just for that incredible volume knob alone.

  • @RpmAuto
    @RpmAuto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Now I am a Ford fan but I got to say those 3800 series II was bulletproof. I worked on a lot of them back in the day. Only problem with them was they had put plastic intake plenum on them and they always leaked due to heat. I think down through the years they went to a aluminum one. And also they had plastic water outlet tubes from the water pump to the block that usually crack and when you try to remove them they break off in the block. You can replace them with metal ones.

    The best GM engine 3800 V6 i not understand people scrap fabolous Buicks. I have one 1997 Buick LeSabre i owned only for $495.00 bucks and runs nice as a fair condition so important for me as a car servicing too.

    Those Buicks are underrated. That 3800 is reliable and the car is comfy. For the price you get a bargain on comfort. Wish I could find a good Ultra.

    Love those old GM cars, need a good cleaning. The 3800 engines are the best running motors while the Buicks offers comfy and smooth highway cruiser senior citizens loved their Buicks who blames them those were some great cars even sound sweet under acceleration shifting gears, this one still looks good bring it back to life still see few of these most times, hard killing a GM brand like Buick.

      @@antoniojmonetti I hate faded lenes but it wouldnt stop me from buying that car people look at cars and sometimes get the wrong Impression because the car is dirty but I've got xray I look at what could be with some elbow grease and love. Some people say I'm spoiled because I have nice old cars. They dont realise my cars are nice because I slave to keep them nice. I fix them immediately if somthing breaks. I polish them and scrub the carpets regularly.

    Fantastic cars! Definitely worth saving. I recently acquired a 99 Le Sabre Custom, w/50k miles on it and love the car. I've always liked the 90's Buicks. One is the most inexpensive cars to own, period.

    Those things tend to clog up catalytic converters, might be why it's starting hard. Great save!

    I Used to have a Buick just like that. I got it for free. it ran for 5 years, and i only had to replace one part. I junked it because it was leaking oil. I think it would have ran for 5-10 more years. R.I.P Buick LeSabre Custom 2001-2018

    Haha I have a 97 Buick LeSabre but it doesn't have the leather seats in the Dual climate. But I have 225000 miles on mine. Still runs like a top paid $1,500 for it 5 years ago. And all I've done do it as change the oil in a few minor repairs in a set of tires. I did have to do the brake lines because they rusted-out because back then that use steel brake lines.

    I have a 1996 Buick LeSabre Limited in mint condition. It only has 64k miles on it, and it has 0 rust of the body. Underneath it has some, but it's nothing bad.

    I drive a 2000 LeSabre, not my favorite because the battery and fuses are under the back seat. My last one was a 77 and I used it for a RV. Took out the backseat added a mattress and went camping.

    I don't like anything about those cars except that they seem to be tough and reliable. Surprising for GM. In the 80s we would consider that a $500 car to get you to work until you can afford something better.
