My only concern at this point aside from the range is the hub motor seals. Most all manufacturers don’t pay attention to them in the ebike world.

Sondors design - Love it! To solve the knee grabbing tank area - a custom made luggage bag could fit in that space which would then allow you to grip that area with your knees.

    • @dennisrichards2540
      @dennisrichards2540 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This was what I was going to say, even a blanking plate with adjustable knee grips so you can dial them in for your riding style, Also it'd be a useful space for Helmet storage (probably not a full face by the looks of it) or added batteries for or a rapid charging system . . .
. . . loads of useful ways to use that space.

Finally! I've been waiting for someone to make a $5K electric motorcycle for a commuter bike, and this ticks all the boxes with bonus points for the futuristic styling. I like the looks of the open frame, but I wish they'd enclosed that space for storage - a frunk, to serve the purpose of a tank bag. Maybe offer an optional battery to fit there for extended range, but until the range is good enough for a full day of touring, I personally would not add the weight and expense beyond what is needed for a daily commute.
I just bought a $5K BMW G310GS to use for commuting and mild old man adventures. I have a home brew electric bicycle that I made from my old Trek mountain bike, but I'm still very tempted to get this new e-bike!

There is no way you will get 50mi out of this. They are marketing like Zero did when they had smaller battery bikes. However, a 10kwh battery in a Zero will get you about 40mi on highway and this has less than half the battery. I would expect 20 miles range at 55mph. 30 miles mixed 30-55mph riding. 50-60 miles at purely 30mph speeds.

being able to grip the tank with your knees helps with:
    - hanging off the bike in high speed corners
    - properly controlling the bike at low speed, like in a car park
    - allows the rider to take pressure off their wrists, helping with longer rides
    - gives the rider a way to grip the bike without excess steering input when accelerating and decelerating
my guess is, not having something there to grip with your knees, will make this bike a PITA to ride safely.

Don't just think of a removable battery as something you have to lug around.. it makes it easier for you to replace the battery should it die, or they release a higher capacity battery in the same size. Rather than having to send your bike in to have the battery swapped you can just have them send you the battery and switch it yourself.

Very interesting idea - I've been working from home now for a year and we're at some point going to go back into the office at least 2 to 3 days a week. I'm using a Versys 1000 at the moment but am looking to shift my commute to an affordable electric bike and am following this one with particular interest.
Got a 40 mile roundtrip commute to do with 2/3 Highway with a speed limit of 70mph so I'm thinking with this generation of battery tech it won't cut it since even at the start with a 100% battery I would only expect to barely get to work and back without charging in the office (which I wouldn't be able to guarantee) and as soon as the battery starts to degrade I'll have major range anxiety or will have to limit myself to much slower speeds, which defeats the purpose of the bike...
I'm hoping that a bike like this can come in at about 100 to 120 mile range in 3-5 years at around $7000 which will make it very interesting for a lot of people.

These sellers are at some point going to realize as popularity breeds knowing. The public is wise to their b.s. points and raise an eyebrow to what else they are hiding? Honesty is always, always the best tactic always too, simply the right thing to do. It’s good business.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Federal Law states the turn signals have to be at least 16 inches apart, so these integrated blinkers would not be acceptable by themselves and you would need additional units. They had to do this with some new imported Vespa models as the units recessed into the front legshield were not up to US spec and additional stem signals were added. A small detail but something to consider.
